Walking Dead non-release in Australia.

To Whom ever it may concern ~

I'm a gamer and I own a PS3. I've recently been watching Toby Turner's game commentary on The Walking Dead PC and have been really interested in buying and playing the game. I originally thought that it was only released on PC but after searching I found it on PS3. I was excited of this propect only to come across the devastating articles on the fact that Australia did not see the Walking Dead on the store shelves. I was so dissapointed because I thought this game was a great idea and looked so good to play.

I managed to find out that Tell Tale didn't submit the game due to our OFLC ratings on video games. I then came across an article that told me that the OFLC has confirmed that an R18+ rating for video games January 1 2013. I can only assume that The Walking Dead wasn't submitted due to it's restricted rating so I wanted to ask, if this rating is passed, will TellTale Games reconsider putting forth the plan of having this game released in Australia?

Thankyou for your reply in advance, It would be a great prospect to have The Walking Dead here in Australia, as I've heard alot of people want to experience the game.

As an Australian expatriate I feel your pain, I have been in the US for 5 years now but I remember well that ridiculous ommission from games rating in Australia. I had to set up a region hacked PS2 to import a number of titles I had no access to back in the day.

Luckily though whether or not telltale want to submit TWD to the Australian market you should very easily be able to pick up a US or European region version of the disc for PS3 and play it in your system. I have a couple of PS3 games from europe and as long as english is a language option, you won't notice any difference.

If that's what you want to do you should easily be able to find a US copy online that will ship to Australia, if for some reason though you can't sort it out, send me a PM, good luck!

I'm Aussie too, I got it on PC.. But don't stress too much, they are creating an R18+ ratings for games in late January. They've made the bill and it has been approved, they just have to wait for it to pass through legislation I believe. So you will be able to play it on xbox360 and PS3, it's just a matter of time now. Especially since it just won GOTY! :)

Well, I'm a Canadian expat in Aus and I've had no problems playing the game on PC. Not sure why the PS3 platform has issues.

Because you haven't done research, perhaps that's why you're unsure. OP does a bad job at conveying his/her point and has a few things twisted...

If you go to this thread here... and look for bryans post you will find out he was the guy in charge of classifications and after a sob story to save face says that 'we are on their radars' whether that meant they knew we were butt sore over it all or were hinting we'd get the game eventually remains to be seen.

I'm still waiting as well OP and I have been since before the launch of episode 1 and it sucks to be us, I know your pain.

If you don't like to wait you could always buy the US PS3 retail release from Amazon or Play Asia.

I love how the price is $78, even though it s $30 in America, which works out at $28.80 Australian.. Yes charges those idiots in Australia an extra $50 for no reason, they won't know any better.

    Wow those prices are sickening.

Hmmm, yeah I am still waiting for it over in New Zealand even though we have had an R18 rating for as long as I can remember. Even though I am going to buy it for the PC anyway I was a little like screw you guys if you're not going to support our country :P Although I did come to the forums to ask since all five games were out were they going to put them through as a single game now. But I guess if Aussie are getting their 18+ it'll just wait for that :D.

I fucking knew this was going to happen, what a joke. In my previous post I had written a four paragraph rant explaining how this game would have its price put up since it's 'GOTY' now. Wish I hadn't of deleted it because I was absolutely spot on.

This is actually sickening when comparing the price to other games I have brought recently. The Witcher 2 for Xbox from EB cost me $80 on release, A game which I easily spent over 80 hours playing multiple times. Hell I just brought XCOM Enemy Unknown for $80 as well and that's only just come out as well.

To me this A- game isn't worth more or as much as those AAA titles; no offence TTG but those games that take actual days to finish and years to develop are worth this kind of money to me. This price pretty much makes the game a rental now. GG EB/Gamestop, your pilfering us will come at the price of reduced sales.

The shittiest thing is as well is if we had been able to download from Live or PSN., It'd have cost us like $30.
I bet TWD ends up in the bargain bins after three months.

So after us waiting months for The Walking Dead because Telltale Games were afraid it wouldn't qualify for an MA15+ classification in Australia, the R18+ classification is introduced for games and The Walking Dead is classified as ... MA15+. This should come as no surprise to anyone remotely familiar with MA15+ games. Thanks for the delay Telltale Games!

Don't know where you're getting the $80 price tag from but the price has dropped. Though it's still pretty expensive for console you've got to consider the import cost the company has to pay, and as we all know here in Australia, Eb Games is possibly the most expensive place to buy newly released games or even year old games.

Just buy the game on steam, $25. Or you could be waiting another 3 months for the official release here.

Still no confirmation whether there'll be a NZ release... anywhere.

prices for videogames are always much higher in australia, it has little to do with the devs.
their purchasing power is simply much higher than say for gamers in the US.

    You don't really pay "more".

Well as far as I know they still haven't submitted the game to the New Zealand OFLC so as far as New Zealand is concerned nothing has changed. According to http://www.censorship.govt.nz/about-censorship/how-games-are-classified.html , all restricted games (games classified as MA15+ or R18+ by the ACB in Australia, classified as 15, 18 or R18 by the BBFC in the UK or refused classification in either country) must carry a New Zealand classification label.

Telltale can confirm today that the award-winning game series The Walking Dead was submitted to the Australian Classification Board and has received a rating of MA15+. The game will be available for purchase digitally on consoles via Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network very soon and we will confirm expected release dates shortly. Retail release dates for The Walking Dead on XBOX 360, PlayStation 3 and PC in Australia will also be announced in the coming weeks.

So where are these dates TTG? It's been almost a month since this statement.

How hard is it to get a game you've already got on XBLA and PSN available in another region? I'd have thought you guys would have been able to give old Microsoft and Sony a call and be like "Yeah we can have our game on your services in that region now." What's taking so long?

I think this is Bryan's middle finger.

I honestly can't believe this. The game wasn't submitted for fear of rejection due to lack of R18 rating. Only to get finally submitted and subsequently get the previous MA15+.

In all honesty, I think your disco train has long since left the station!

    UPDATE:

TWD has today received an R16 rating in NZ.

    ETA please TTG?

My boyfriend felt the same way. He was excited for a PS3 release, realised he could not purchase for PS3 in Australia, and decided to play my PC copy instead.

    You're losing sales Telltale. ;_;

Edit : Oh awesome, a PS3 release is now available! Although, very high in price. I'm guessing this isn't your fault though. :(

I'll just say. It has been a bloody long wait, sir. Happy previous valentine day to you. The only chocolates and kisses you'll get from me will be of the brown EDIT* and chunky variety.

Ass-Kissing and poop jokes aside. It'll take more than this to win back the undying passion I had for this game at the beginning of the last season, man I was so pumped to play this game. No hard feelings though man... just anguish and despair. Don't worry though I'll tell you what you need to do to win back my passion... release here! In our two countries next season along with the rest of the world at the same bloody time, you know what I think actually? That'll bloody wet my sock. If you catch my meaning, so do it.

Truly though it's good to say thank you finally. :D

There are no official release date announcements that have been made at this point. Obviously, the ratings confirm that those territories are in our plans.

Can anyone who finally picked up the Xbox version of the game in AU or NZ confirm actually starting episode 3? Just played through the first two episodes and it seems a lot of people (myself included) are getting the established save game bug that dumps you back to episode 1. I'm a little concerned that it seems as if Telltale haven't pushed the title update to address the issue to the AU/NZ Xbox Live, meaning you might still have to keep a hold of those signatures for a little while :(

Ohhh ffs, now I find out. Spent my money on the entire game and got the same bugged product you guys put out a year ago. Do you not learn from your mistakes? I'm pretty amping mad right about now, especially since I've only just smashed Andy in the face a hundred times and sparta kicked him into an electric fence and then get given this episode 1 nonsense where it continuously activates said episode when I select episode 3.

Any deets on when the patch will release, will it release?

    Please respond.

It says Thursday in that post, so to be more precise is that your guys Thursday or our (New Zealand and Australia) Thursday which would likely be your Wednesday. Time zones are weird, it could end up being early Friday morning for us if it's implemented at say 6:00 am Thursday in LA.

Either way, thank you for your fast response.
