Season 2, Female Protagonist?

I personally believe that Season 2 of TWD: The Game should include a female protagonist as the main playable character. Why? Making the playable character a female would add a unique feel to the game. Something no one has ever done before, other than the Tomb Raider series of course. You would need to design this character to be sort of a bad ass though. Maybe a military background? The player would need to feel like they're able to go toe to toe with any other Male character. They did this well with Lilly minus the crazy part. I honestly think that playing as a female this time would be incredibly innovative, and would turn out great! It would definitely be something different. Does anyone else agree? If not, please share why playing as a Male character, again, would be the better option.

I think that playing as a female lead for the sake of having one is going to be a bad move. I'm not saying that Telltale shouldn't have a female lead, but if handled poorly, it could leave a bad impression to the gamers.

I'm all for a female lead so as long as she's likable and relatable, and not everything revolves around her gender before her actions and mindset. Carley, Lilly (before her insanity) and Christa are good examples of female characters, I believe.

And I really don't see why the female lead would need to have a military background something equivalent to that to be strong or badass. Lee had no combat training, teaches at a school, and he survived for as long as he could.

    Anyway, that's my two cents.

If this were another company I'd understand your concern but just between Jurassic Park and The Walking Dead games I'd say Telltale has a very good grasp on characterization. And since they don't seem to treat women as a minority I don't see any reason a female lead would be any less interesting.

Hell, they got people emotionally attached to Clementine in a big way despite the fact a lot of people seem to hate kid characters. (Like Duck) Some people even want her to be the lead in the next season. And I wouldn't worry about them letting stereotypes dominate the characters they create either, they're very good at defying stereotypes actually.

With Lee, for me, I think they made the first memorable black character in a video game who wasn't a solider, gangster or rapper. And in a time where Iran is the bad guy in a lot of American media, they made the loveable and optimistic comic relief character Persian with Omid. And Omid loves Civil War history, as do Lee, which even Christa seems to find baffling.

I'm pretty confident in whoever the pick as the lead of next season.

I'm all for more diverse protagonists, but I don't think it needs to be seen as a huge definitive factor. Like with Lee's ethnicity, one thing I appreciated about it was that there was never a big deal made out of it by the writers, he was a good character who just happened to be black.

That said, I'm not opposed to having a female lead, there should be more of them, but I suppose it's up to Telltale. Wouldn't think that she would need to automatically be set with a military background to feel capable though.

Also, I'll have to mention that Tomb Raider isn't the first series to have a female protagonist. It's easy to think of more interesting leads. April Ryan, Heather Mason, Jade, etc.

I'm ok with that as long as they are as awsome as lee.

How about giving us multiple characters to choose from? That would please everybody

I hope you understand that it's impossible. They need to make a two games for realization this.

See, that's why I was cool with Christa as the PC for season 2 at first. She would've been a great mother figure for Clem and she also knows a bit of what Lee's group has gone through. (Not to mention the fact that she's pregnant.)

She would probably have a sad and grim death, just like Lee at the end of season 1. She and the newborn child could both be killed simultaneously, which would be quite the sad ending of season 2.

Mother figure for Clem would be nice for a change. So I'm cool with a new female PC

I still want the baby to kill her lol. I sound harsh, but we've never seen a walker baby :P I mean, the brain is developed enough, so if she miscarriages or maybe she gets shot in the stomach or something, then the baby could turn. I know this sounds horrible, but... I just see the lil child as a walker ripping through her stomach...

    Agreed

As much as I'd love a female lead, I agree that it shouldn't be done just to be done.
I also think a chick with military background is cliche. Why does she have to have military background just to compete with men? Women compete with men on a daily basis in this world with no training whatsoever ;) Hehe.
Having said that, I think that (based on Lee), TTG'S TWD leads will be more about redemption. If she's already bad ass mcgee, what redemption could she be offered? I made a suggestion a while back that if there were a female lead, it'd be interesting if she was a beaten housewife that has to become a tough leader. More redemption and story in that, I think.
If they do have a female lead, I hope they don't mess it up by making it someone like Lily or Molly.

I didn't say that I exactly wanted a military background, just something in that aspect. Police, self-defense instructor, etc. A housewife who's capable of killing hundreds of zombies and bandits wouldn't be the most believable.. Idk.

As opposed to a college professor, fishing captain, or radio journalist who could kill zombies and bandits. :p

The new lead will probably have their baggage, but I wouldn't think a setup for redemption would be a requirement. Then again, I really wouldn't classify a story of someone overcoming abuse as a redemptive theme so much as a personally introspective one.

I wouldn't mind playing a survivalist like Lilly as long as being abrasive was optional. Already stated that I'd be opposed to someone like Molly being a full-time lead though. The action-hero level of prowess would just feel out of place.

To be fair they had an eight-year-old girl helping them.

I'd like something like Mass Effect... Not as in depth honestly, but a simple little creator that you could create a male or female. Could be 'tweener' name or they call them by the last name. They already make dialogue choices so the only branch would be 'he or she' occasionally.

Just my two cents on that. (And since it's not a love story, don't have to worry about a romance unless they just wanted to make things tougher on themselves. xD)

unborn fetuses can't move to that degree and they don't have any teeth to bite with.

They have arms :P And it depends how far in they were. Lori's baby could have, since she was pretty much developed. Walkers don't need teeth to rip people apart and kill, you could see a grown man get torn apart by two kids. Doesn't matter how small or weak, all it takes is a scratch! :P

As much as I enjoyed Mass Effect, I don't really expect to see that style happening here. Shepard was essentially a blank slate to work with, but I don't see anything wrong with Telltale sticking to what they know in making a canon pre-established lead.
I suppose taking the extra resources to record all of the protagonist's lines twice in such a dialogue heavy game would be an issue as well.
