not telling Kenny your past does not count as "not siding with kenny"

I thought she got development, and what is the Ben bro speech, even I have never heard of it.

If you say to Ben that he has to make his own choice, and you've been nice to him, he'll talk about how you were always there for him, always supported him, and how he feels he needs to do something helpful for once.

in my canon playthrough i didn't find the batteries, i didn't trust carley to not reveal my past (even though i said i did, because in England reporters/journalists aren't trustworthy) and we had a fundamental disagreement about a persons right to take their own life in a situation like Irene's, plus i was impressed by Doug's nerd skills with the remote, so i was obviously gonna save doug, it is a bit disappointing that doug and Lee couldn't become good enough bros that they talked about his past, but that is from a hindsight perspective

Right, I always forced him to help me, during the playthrough for 400 Days I picked that option, it was really good, not as amazing as the Kenny bro speech but still a good one nonetheless.

Ben is probably my 4th favorite character behind Doug, Nate, and Eddie, in that order.

    What development, exactly?
I thought Carley and Duck were the only really static characters out of the main group.

yeah at least doug went from nerd to bandit killer, him shooting the bandits was a bit like the cop from die hard when he finally used his gun again

Can we please stop with the Doug Vs Carley wars already and just appreciate them both ?

oh yea i got that on my canon playthrough, and what was weird is that still got the kenny bro speech..

We do, but it would be naive to say that Doug wasn't extremely downplayed, and we're trying to find out why.

I don't think there's a problem with appreciating them both while comparing their pros and cons.

I agree that Doug was not as shown in episode 1 as Carley, but saying that one is a better character or that Carley never got developed is not a wise thing to say unless you want to start a forum brawl.

Bashing one character over another is one thing, but simply pointing out that Carley never got developed doesn't seem like a brawl-starter. That's like pointing out that Doug was a nerd.

True, I think they both got development, and they are very different from each other, Telltale just did not give enough reason to pick Doug over Carley.

It's kind of a shame. Carley could've been a way more awesome character if she were somewhat weary of Lee, like she was in the first episode. Why did that just disappear?
  • edited August 2013
Well we never saw those three months, maybe that is why.

Yeah, hopefully season 2 makes the "pick one character over another" situation more difficult. But what kind of development do you think Carly got? Genuinely curious.

    Well we should've.

Not to say Carley's lame after the first episode, but she could've been way cooler.

Perhaps he's referring to their romance? The two for them growing feelings for one another is certainly character development. But, in the end, of the two I think Doug got more. Carley is always a reliable, sharpshooting badass (which IS awesome), but it was more interesting to see Doug realize that most of his skills have become useless, and to begin to turn into more of a survivor (like when he shot the bandit during the raid).

There is development is small ways, like the whole radio thing I have to sadly say. And is it really bad to like a underdeveloped character, people like Mark and he did not get that developed.

Yeah, I liked the romance scene at the motel. It was well-written and that music was really good too. So hopeful and wistful. And I kinda wish Doug survived the RV argument to make up for the screen time he lost to Carly.

Yeah when you fix the radio Carley hears her colleagues getting eaten and we have the option to comfort her .

Doug was made out to be the wrong option because, in a practical sense, he was the wrong option. As cool as he was, his technical skills are way less useful than Carley's gunslinging. He was also a pacifist, non-assertive, and is a big eater. Guys like him are supposed to be the first to go in a zombie apocalypse. And he knows all of this. He knows that he was the wrong option. But still you chose him. And he has to live with that. That's part of what makes him such a compelling character to me.

Huh? I never said she was a bad character, just underdeveloped compared to everyone else.

I loved the first Die Hard, love that scene.

Damn, I never saw Die Hard. Ah well, I can't complain about spoilers given the film's age.

You really can't, next thing people are going to be pissed because a silent film got spoiled.

I watched that recently, and it's probably one of the best action films I've ever seen. I love it. "Now I have a machine gun. Ho ho ho!"

Doug should have lived, Kenny could teach him how to grow an awesome stache. With those powers Duck is cured of walker disease. Then everyone becomes rambo and shoot lasers out of machine guns.
