"After more than ten years of publication, and hundreds of issues of Fables, and various Fables-related works, I have decided the time has come to begin the process of bringing our sweeping story to a close. And, along the way, I’ve decided to retire from a great deal of my comics work."

I am both happy and sad but in the end, this is his choice and he doing as he wish.
Sadly, I think this lessen the likelihood of a 2nd season.
I'm both saddened yet relieved. Being on the 12th trade right now, I'm nowhere near the current issues, but now I finally found out that this series ends, unlike the WD comics which keep recycling the same old plot-lines over and over again.

I'm glad he's giving this a proper ending. Many creators just can't stop creating story after story in the same world, not recognizing that the world was originally just built around that very first and most important story. It takes quite something to end what proves lucrative issue after issue.
I hope he'll be out with something new instead of sliding into retirement all too quickly.

Dont worry with those and the side series like Jack of Fables, you still have a lot to get through.
Only 16 issues left. I don't know what to think of this, because on the one hand I'm glad that the series is going to receive a proper ending instead of churning out more stories all the time when there is nothing worth telling, but on the hand, I'm not enjoying this last arc, I think the current villain is pretty weak, and I think it wouldn't be a very strong ending to the series.
But I guess I'll have to wait and see, and in a year and a half I'll pass my final judgement on the series.

Anyway, sad news. But, at the same time I definitely understand. I would rather the series end when the writer is ready for it to than see it drag out and turn into something uninspired. It's been a good run, and I will probably read most of these volumes several times through the years.
I think it's the best thing for the story to end it now instead of dragging it around and sooner or later run out of ideas. This series has had a great run and has left it's mark in comic book history. As someone who grew up with all these fairy tales and to have them hit such a potential like that I'm glad it happened.
In this article they say that there is going to be a fables movie! I didn't know that! But I have to say that I would have prefered a tv show.Anyway I really hope that it is going to be great.

Mmm, quite a bit. A quick count. 150 issues x 22 pages = 3300 pages, and that's not counting the extra sized issues (50, 75, 100, etc), the prestige one-shot Last Castle and some prose stories.

Don't they mean, "hundred", not "hundreds"? If they haven't reached issue #150 yet, they sure as heck haven't reached "hundreds of issues", heh...
How so? Any good story has an end. He has a HUGE body of work and the game will generated new readers. As for a season 2 from Telltale, if they did a prequel, they can do an epilogue.
Incuding the side series. There's a few of them.
I hate to see the comics end, but I love the idea of Fables breaking into other forms of entertainment, presently Wolf Among Us is awesome and amazing to play.
And if a film or tv series is in the future I really welcome that.

All good things must come to an end. Better that it ends intentionally rather than dragging on.
And we are 16 issues from issue #150. And we can't forget the prequel to the comics and The Wolf Among Us.
What issue are they on so far? I only got up to 133 and I got the Faries one as well, was thinking of checking out Unwritten but idk if it is worth it
I think we're on issue 135 of Fables, and 20 of Fairest.
One thing I don't like about the new Fairest spin-off is that important plot points for Fables are introduced/elaborated there, so you kinda HAVE to read both if you want to know what's going on. Like Briar Rose, who is awoken is Fairest, then shows up in Fables without an explanation. If someone didn't read Fairest, they'd have no clue why she was suddenly awake again, and had a universe-hopping car.
Spin-offs should never be vital to understanding the core series. That's why they're spin-offs, to continue sub-plots, not the main narrative.

We are on issue 135 since yesterday. Next month 136, etc. When did you read that?
Among the most laudable things you can do in creative work is to know when to stop, even when whatever you're making is still selling. I think people will always remember things like...say, Calvin and Hobbes or Breaking Bad with nothing but fond memories, and a very large chunk of that derives from the fact they both ended while running strong.
I don't know if such is the case with Fables; haven't read any of it yet, so perhaps the quality has declined since the start. I wouldn't know. But this is certainly a good sign.

I always try to wait for the TPBs to come out, since I collect those. I already know some of what's been happening in the comic, though, since I peek at some of the reviews and summaries online. I have the volumes "Snow White" (no. 19) and "Camelot" (no. 20) on pre-order through Amazon. But, waiting has been driving me crazy, especially since I'm also now waiting for the next Fairest TPB and the next episode of TWAU.

The issues themselves are finished earlier by 6 months. You can buy them at comic stores or digitally through DC comics website like Violet said.

. i am a huge fan of Fables and i am gonna miss it.
The series somehow seemed to go down after the empire was destroyed. Mr Dark storyline slowly picked up the pieces and had begun to get really interesting, and then bam, it comes to an underwhelming end.
And in the recent issues after that it's become too depressing.
Specially issue number 124. I mean the whole Oz storyline was kind of weak, but the end of Bufkin's story was somehow very poignant. First time I realized I could feel so strongly about a monkey and his lilliput wife.
