Do we receive steam keys for season 2 episodes when purchasing from Telltale Store?

I'm excited to buy this game and to receive the collector's edition DVD when it becomes available, but it is much more practical for me to have my games available to me via steam due to travel requirements IRL. So before purchasing directly and risking not being able to play via this method, I'd like some confirmation on how this works.

  • No, of course not. But you can of course buy it from Steam directly as well!

You'll have to see the collector's DVD as a kind of trade off. ;)

Well, hey, don't be so quick to judge - there are some great companies which have readily provided steam keys in such instances. :P

What about selling the collector's edition extras in isolation as an option up until the game's release? I wonder why that isn't an option so far. I'd happily buy the steam version of the game and then pay a small amount more for the extras alone from the Telltale store in order to support the developer more directly while still retaining my preferred method of acquisition.

Don't worry, it was a long, long, looong process of judgement. ;)

What I came to realize is that developers - especially the smaller ones - need to supply visible and attractive alternatives to the uncontested industry giant of digital game distribution while still embracing the chances of Steam's far customer reach and popularity. When Telltale abandonned the Season DVD these last three years, I was really disappointed by their effort to create USPs for their own store. They're heading into the right direction again right now, thank God. But it all only works if this offer is individual from Valve's all encompassing platform - regardless whether Telltale actually gets those Steam keys for free or, as seems to be the case increasingly nowadays, pays bulk prices for those keys. If this becomes a "best of both worlds" offer, you blur a very important line.
