Double post.
He is a "bad" character. Not bad in the malicious sense like the some others, but he's still bad for the group.
My main issue with him was the cowardice over the idiocy, at least twice somebody dies because Ben was too scared to do anything.
I certainly sympathise with Ben, he didn't mean any of it, but the point remains that you could never have him around anybody you want to live.
I stood up for Ben. He always meant good. Well when he left Clem among zombies i got really pissed.
Ben is a good kid ... I think he's really scared, he wants to do good things but he's kinda clumsy.
He must have seen a lot of bad stuff happening around him.
I like him.
He's not a bad guy, hes is a loser. Complete loser. Bad Luck B..en.
I stood up for him, gave him food and then he ran away, leaving Clem in the clutches of a whole group of zombies. I let that fecker get eaten by Crawford!
Poor Ben... I did everything possible to save him.
So i guess you were mad at Kenny too ? He never help you and he's always mad at you cause yu don't defend his family like he wants you to.
in a zombie apocalypse , good intentions don't matter. if you're an idiot, you get dropped down the bell tower. Hopefully clementine remembers to drop idiots down bell towers.
Ben's just clumsy, would ignore in real life.
Drop useless liabilities. Because that's the Crawford way, isn't it?
I definitely saved Ben's life in Crawford, but I gave him absolutely ZERO leeway (ha!) in any other situation whatsoever. Because fuck that stupid kid.
Let's just make sure we have the whole list here:
- Betrays the group to the bandits, leading to an invasion once they don't get what they want, indirectly leading to Duck/Katjaa's death
- Fails to call out a warning in time when the bandits invade, despite being on watch
- Gets Doug/Carley shot protecting his stupid ass.
- Ditches Clem in the middle of a zombie horde, leading indirectly to Chuck's death.
- Takes the axe out of the door handles in Crawford, leading directly to Brie's death.
- Manages to get his ass beat and lose the boat (if you left him guarding it)
- Screams at Kenny like a dickbag and draws every walker in 100 miles to the mansion.
- Falls and screams enough to lead to Kenny's death.
The last two don't happen if you just let the kid die, and Jesus Christ, I can understand making that choice. Because he's a terrible jagoff and a complete liability who literally does absolutely nothing useful during any of his time with the group. I hate him in his stupid, stupid face.
nah hes pretty cool but he was a dick when he gave those bandits the meds
some parts I agree with you @SketchyGalore
Ben is definitely the best.
I really wish that I'd had an option to let Kenny kick the shit out of you, buddy.
No offense or nothin. :P
Worse would've happened if ben didn't give the meds, and the bandits took the group by surprise even earlier, like before kenny got the RV prepared.
Want to put that on Carley too? Granted she was not on watch, but she was in a better sighting position than Ben.
They were the ones who volunteered to protect him, and Lilly was the one who shot them.
.....I was really mad at him regarding the clementine part and threatened him after it. However as for chuck's death. That could also be put on Molly who rang the bell.
Axe was another frustrating stupid mistake by ben. However as for Brie's death. She was careless when holding the door so close to the zombies. Plus Vernon scolds you if you let ben die. Despite you claiming ben should be held for Brie's death.
If Ben, Christa, Omid, and Kenny, all combined can't keep the boat. Then how the hell do you expect Ben alone to be able to, or hold it against him when he can't?
The walkers end up coming regardless of Ben's existence in the scene.
Anyone in ben's situation would've fallen from the surely-about-to-break balcony and would've of course screamed with an impale like that.
Hell, you can tell him to be quite, and when he does get quite, the walkers still spot you.
Ben would leave Clementine die without hesitation.
Nope, I was good to Kenny, he was good to me.
Ben is an idiot and a coward, and his screw ups, more often than not, resulted in a group member being killed. He was nothing but dead weight to the group.
But I don't hate him. Everything he did, he did with the intent to help the group. He never meant any harm, and to say that he was a bad person is wrong. He felt guilty about everything that happened because of his mistakes, and he just wanted to make it right and actually be a member of the group instead and pull his own weight. I hated him, up until he asked me to drop him, and after that I just felt pity for him. He deserved better than what he got in the end. He deserved a chance to redeem himself.
He doesn't mean to mess up but he just does haha
Ben is one of the best characters created. And before you argue:
Kenny: THIS IS NOT A DISCUSSION!
Well, I can't argue with Kenny.
He'll leave me to die if I do.
While the OP just feels like another troll attempt to beat a dead horse, i gotta say i agree with most of your points, hero. Ben made a few screw ups, some were honest mistakes, others not so much. Ben has said that lilly scares the crap out of him. He should have mentioned the deal with the bandits, so everyone else knew what was going on. Lilly might have been pissed for taking the meds to start, but they could have worked out a plan, and she would have known the only reason they were safe was because of this deal. Thus, she wouldnt have clung to the motel's safety.
His biggest fear was being killed by the walkers. While towards the end he kind of gives up on life, it was still a phobia and people dont act rationally when they're like that. So while him leaving clem looked bad, he wasnt malicious about it. He just panicked.
This last one has me rather perplexed. The axe.when you pass by, the door is bloody as all hell, but not a 1 of the walkers that made up the horde was there till after molly makes her come back. If he saw a mob of walkers on the door, id like to think he wouldnt have grabbed it, but if it looked safe because molly's actions drew them away and then they followed her back, we can probly put that on her as well.
Ben is the "Steve Urkel" of the walking dead and you don't hate him do you? I mean granted its a much more serious situation, and way more serious mistakes but, hes still a kid, probably no older than 16 or 17. He also lost his parents and his baby sister. Honestly how many of us would do better in the situation Ben was in?
I felt sorry for Ben too. Sure, he stuffed up, we all know that, but he was young and immature. He never did things to intentionally hurt anyone. And it was great when he stood up to Kenny. When I played first time around, I wasn't expecting that. I thought, "good on ya Ben!".
He was just young and scared. I felt sorry for the poor thing.
Losing the boat wasn't his fault.
couldn't agree more @Ben
I thought when Ben was yelling at Kenny was a very powerful scene. And Kenny was being a lot meaner to Ben than Ben was to Kenny.
Ben is one of the best characters.
