Clementine's personality in episode 2
Some things i noticed while playing that don't feel anything like Clem.
-She says "oh shit" while fighting the walker on the bridge.
I thought our decision of not swearing in the barn was gonna carry over like it did in the bathroom scene.
-She says she hated her treehouse.
The written backstory about Clementine says "Clementine is a quiet and imaginative girl with two attentive, loving parents. She’s incredibly resourceful, choosing to spend time building elaborate fantasies in her tree-house instead of watching cartoons or playing with dolls."
If she did spend so much time in her treehouse then why did telltale suddenly make her hate the treehouse.
-She says "You look like an idiot" to Luke when you choose the [LOOK DOWN] option
Not sure if i should have added this here. Seems like she just wanted to be funny to Luke but I kind of saw it as she just starts disliking everything now, especially since she just said "that sounds stupid" to what Luke said just 10 seconds before.

I fully agree. Clementine is becoming a naysayer to pretty much everything. She have completely lost her caring character in this episode. I also don't like the fact how Telltale make her seem more adult than the majority of the group. They send Clementine doing all the dangerous, and hard jobs while the rest just sit and sob about the situation. This is not what my Lee Everett raised. This makes me want to go back and re-wind Season One to get a glimpse at the Clementine we once knew... She knew how to care for people, and gave this ray of light in this world. That ray of light is gone after playing A House Divided.
Yeah, she was kinda sassy and had a bitter expression in some parts. I didn't like a bunch of the dialogue options.
As a zombie apocalypse is happening its probably getting harder for her to hold on to her innocence
I think she has a mini crush on Luke, how cute!
I personally really like the new Clem, and what Chuck said in episode 3 really got to me. "She'll DIE a little girl if you treat her like one." If she was the same old clem we knew in S1 EP 1-5, she would be dead ten times over.
You've got to also realize she was with Christa (who already wasn't very good at optimism) and being raised by someone like that for 16 MONTHS out in the wild can change someone. I agree that it would be nice if you could choose more optimistic lines for Clem but it seems like it would be kind of...unrealistic?
I never really liked Chuck's speech. A child should be raised as a child. Like Carlos has been doing with Sarah, and he managed to keep the dangerous world away from her. She should find out by herself when she is in the right age. Having a little girl do all hard labour for a group consisting of five adults just feels wrong. I know Clementine is our main protagonist now, and she have to fulfill the requirements of that but... I wish Telltale could go a little easy on it. They're ruining her personality too fast.
I think it is important to note that at the beginning of the ZA, Clem had to hide in her tree house to keep herself safe from the Walkers. That included sleeping all alone, at night, without knowing what was going on or where her parents were. I'm certain that would be a scary situation and one she would not like to remember. Sadly, it is easy to hate what you once loved if bad feelings or memories are attached to it.
Or it could be Clem was lying to keep from having to climb up the ski lift. Just saying...
I always get lot of hate on this issue but still feel same changed to much people typical response what you expect to survive etc but mean shes totally different person she didn't get more mature and badass but totally changed as a person leaving behind all attitudes i loved about clem the personality, the jokes and interesting storys and the hope just can't get used to this new character in my head all promises to lee even curse words offended her(not now). Just cold calculated killer now who hates everyone and lies everything lee tried to stop. Just my opinion
Saying she hated the treehouse is unrealistic. Firstly, her dad built it for her. You don't honor your dead parents by saying you hated the things they did for you out of love. That's like saying she hates her hat too. Secondly, you don't hate the thing that pretty much kept you alive the first day of the apocalypse.
That dialogue option could have been done much better.
I'm sorry but if you had a child what would you do keep them away from the apocalypse so IF you die then they won't ever know how to defend themselves (especially if it's only you and them)
You say at the right age but there is no right age (unless you're a baby)
Like Carley said there's never a right time for anything but there will be a lot more worse rimes
It doesn't matter if there's adults at that time what if they all die and the child doesn't know how to survive
It's better too know then just in case
I kind of got the impression she just wasn't very keen on the idea of climbing the ski lift, heh.
I...don't think you are getting it. If clem WAS raised like a normal child, she would've died. If she hadn't of learned how to protect herself, what would've happened with the fight in the shed with the walker? The railroad? The ambush? I don't Clem to turn into a full Carl (Ever.) but growing up in a world with people like Carver out there would make anyone act the way she does in S2.
I think Clementines personality had progressed with her character. After all she's been through of course she's not gonna be the same sweet little girl we used to know, hell she's eleven now so it makes even more sense. As for the treehouse thing, just because someone loved an item doesn't mean they always have to love. To me it would seem that Clementine see the tree house as a symbol of when she was younger and naive. And because of everything that's happened she hates that part of herself.
She cared about people I gave no fucks about and that wanted to kill her in Episode 1 (coughRebeccacough). It made no sense for Clementine to care about most of them. If anything, the caring was ramped up, and it felt artificial.
God, this. They wanted me- ALONE- to explore someone's cabin, which might have been trapped or anything else? And then Alvin wanted me to lie to the group about the food? Screw you, Alvin. And screw you too, Nick, you were worse than Ben, at least Ben didn't shoot anyone. Glad I didn't make that promise to Pete, I would have broken it.
I have an idea about the treehouse, she probably said she hated it because she spent like a four days in it at the beginning of Season 1 before Lee showed up. She probably has bad memories now. xD
some irony here:
chucks words treat her like a child she'll die one.
how is that not sinking in ?
the kid gloves should come off people, clem must mature/grow up fast and do what is needed to live.
i find any option to make her soft and child like should only be used for leverage or because it's the smart move..
Are you guys kidding me? I LOVE the new Clementine, even more so than in Season One (which is saying A LOT).
There could be the slight possibility of her saying that because she might like Luke a bit. After all, people say crazy things all the time when they got a little crush lol
Sweat little girl.
Other than that, I completely agree with you.
It's been nearly 2 years since S1 E5. She's had to either leave her best friend to turn into a walker or had to splatter his brains on the wall. She's been blamed by Christa for Omid's death, along with being held up in a bathroom and witnessing the death of one of the two remaining people she knew. She's been attacked by a bandit, kidnapped by a psycho, nearly shot outside a cabin, attacked by a dog, locked in a shed, nearly killed in a shed, confronted by another psychopath in a cabin. She had to stitch up and clean her own arm whilst adults nearby showed very little concern. She's killed walkers on her own and has been taught how to use a gun, but is still called a "little girl" by many people, and the only two people who ever thought her capable of far more than just being a kid, Lee and Chuck, are both dead. She can express survivor's guilt over Lee's death as if it's her fault, letting herself follow the Stranger in hopes of finding her parents. She's also been dragged into a group vs. group conflict she never wanted any part of. She's had to see her own parents as walking corpses attempting to eat her. She's watched numerous people die around her.
I don't know about you, but I'd be one bitter, cynical son of a bitch if all of that happened to me. And it's not like Clementine is forcibly bitter to begin with. She can still show optimism. Yeah, she says she hates her tree house. Yeah, she calls Luke's idea of rooftop-jumping stupid. Yeah, she says "shit" one time after being surrounded by people who swear up a storm consistently for years. So what? It's not "ruining her personality", it's "showing she's grown up".
If she still acted and talked like she did in Season 1, then everything Lee did and taught her would've meant jack shit.
I liked that she cussed. Really, you're bothered by that? She has single-handedly killed a fair amount of zombies now, AND she killed a human being in Season 1 (in my game, in order to prevent Lee from being killed by that guy at the end). Adults are expecting her to do all the work, whether it be scouting a house for supplies or fixing a turbine (that was silly). If anything, I'm surprised at how she's not MORE jaded and cynical and cusses even more.
I really did like that she cussed, though. That put a smile on my face; I thought it was funny.
Yeah... I didn't care for her this season at all, which felt really odd as she was my favorite from S1.
I felt like she showed no fear whatsoever in dangerous situations and had a really smug attitude towards everyone around her, regardless of dialogue choices. I can understand her being rough around the edges for living out on the move with Crista, but she's still just an eleven year old girl. Fighting reanimated corpses that kill people by eating them alive would still be terrifying and risky no matter how many you've killed before.
"Badasses" as depicted in fiction don't really exist in real life as it is, but making one out of a kid is bordering on ridiculous. I feel like whoever wrote her parts this season never paid much attention to her core personality in S1, or what Lee tried to teach her for that matter, or even the whole point that S1 tried to hammer home over and over -- "When the world goes to shit, people become crazy assholes. Don't be crazy. Don't be 'that' guy". I'm just hoping they turn this around or level it out a bit for ep3 before Clem just turns into another obnoxious Carl figure.
Also, didn't anyone else find it extremely odd that the group kept designating tasks and leadership to a little girl?
YOu just don't understand, It's not Clem, ITS KENNY. ITS KENNY. I repeat its KENNY. Clementine looks up to Kenny and so don't be surprised if Kenny's depressing, downer, and morose personality traits start showing up in Clementine. Children are idiots they have no personality they are simply hardwired to socialize themselves by mimicking the adults in their lives.
When she said she hated her treehouse i was rather surprised as she seemed to like it in S1 and it saved her life, reading some comments about the fact that she sometimes hates some group members i think that she might not want to get too attached to them incase they die so that could be why she is sometimes angsty with them.
Also remember that Clem internally compares her childhood to Luke's when he talks about rooftop jumping. Given that Clem pre-apocalypse was a quiet, intelligent child with an engineer and a doctor for parents, she would think 'rooftop jumping' is a dumb thing to do.
I completely agree with you! I was afraid to say something like this when typing my own thread ("thoughts of episode 2") because I didn't want to get hated on. Either that or it's the same 'ol "it's the zombie apocalypse" and "she's better being a badass" or "you gotta understand the shit she's been through".
I was thinking she might hate the treehouse now because she had to hide in it by herself for so long. But that is true that it saved her.
I saw a few moments where she still had her childish nature. When she was looking at the little duck decoration (surprised about no mention of Duck) and when she asked Rebecca if she was okay in the lodge. Yes Clem said "shit" but she still hasn't ever dropped the F-bomb. Yet.
/thread.
Nailed it!
She had to grow up, you know.
You guys afraid of seeing her change to better adapt to the ZA are all a bunch of Carlos.
Think you need to remember, she's grown up and emotionally hardened during the past two years. If she didn't lose her sweet personality she would be dead by now. She's doing Lee and her parents proud being like this. Plus, I laughed at the fact she said she hated her treehouse. She may have come to dislike it when she was forced to hide in it for 2 days after Sandra turned. That's actually what I always thought even before playing the episode and that she was relieved to be away from that treehouse.
And in regards to the swearing, she has met other people now. Lee wasn't the only person she talked to (though he was the biggest influence on her) but I'll admit, I thought she only swore if you did at the Greene's. Could they have put in another scenario into account for that one? There was another time you can swear and she scolded you for it. And even if not, does it really matter? It was fine for the prologue chapter to have her only swear since she was still her innocent self from Season One. But after the timeskip of 16 months I didn't really think that needed to be accounted. Swearing is something she just picked up of someone else within the timespan.
And she hasn't stopped caring about things. She's just lost so much, it's emotionally hardened her. And don't say it doesn't feel like Clem. She has to grow up if she wants to survive. That's a sad fact of life in the zombie apocalypse
She's over being influenced by someone since we're controlling her now. And she's far from an idiot, being inspired by someone to grow up to be like them is something EVERYONE in their lives go through. Heck even teenagers do. It doesn't make you an idiot.
She is badass now. I like it. Its like playing grown up.
And another thing. I know it's horrible to live in this world but does she always have to look like this every time we control her? Seriously Clem, you're killing me...
Ah, I'll fix that, I type super fast so... sometimes it happens.
Why didn't the game called "dark souls" explain the reasons behind an occult club in one of the chests in anor londo?
Because some mystery is fun. Explaining everything is not.
Why are there no scenes of Clementine going to the toilet?
Seriously she is allowed to form her own opinions without telling you. May be the whole apocalypse thing made her hade the idea of a weak little naive girl in a tree house.
Or may be its none of your business.
how is 11 year old who kills zombies on a daily basis and watches her friends die on a daily basis supposed to look?
Well I do think she needs a psychotic smile every now and again.
Well, Clem needed to use the bathroom in Season 1: Episode 1 if that counts for anything.
she got really cute tho when she met kenny in the ski lodge, imo. Still, can you blame her for being bitter sometimes? Shes lost everyone
Also i think shes just on purpose being a bit hard on luke, she doesnt wanna get attached to anyone anymore.
Don't know if anyone mentioned this yet but I think she said "I hated it" (tree house) because she had been stuck in it at the beginning of the ZA. Might have been bad memories.
I think probably sometimes the good memories can actually make you upset, she just denies because it probably really hurts her emotions when she thinks of the things she's lost.
