That's too much time and effort to put into something that a majority of people wouldn't experience. It's also kind of a waste to spend all those resources on a single character. He'd probably become too irrelevant to the story to compensate for those who killed him off, too.
What would be even better would be if the choice to save Nick becomes harder and harder to make. Not Nicks fault (or we would devalue him like Ben), but the circumstances he is placed in, or places himself in to help. For example Nick's trying to save someone, say Bonnie or Alvin or Russel, as a result of the added confidence and purpose we gave him in episode 2, and they both get into trouble, and you have to choose. Next episode this would escalate into a choice between saving Nick or Carlos, Nick or Rebecca, or Nick or Luke.)
Or you could have less costly choices life wise, but more costly relationship wise, so for example Carver is beating the shit out of Kenny because Kenny refused to do manual labour, Nick comes to help, Carver starts beating the shit out of Nick, and you can either drag Kenny away to the infirmary while Nick holds Carver off, or you can bum rush Carver to help Nick.
However, this actually results in Clementine getting beaten up, at which point Carver's guards (Bonnie and Troy) decide that Carver needs to stop, and intervene by holding him back until he calms down.
'FUCK, BILL STOP, SHE'S JUST A LITTLE GIRL, THEY LEARNED THEIR LESSON, CALM DOWN!' Would make for an amazing first line for that silent-type guy Troy.
So basically what this determines is who gains trust points with Clem, and who ends up looking a bit beaten up throughout the next two episodes. also, Carver might potentially beat Nick to death if you don't intervene. It would also affect the trust rating of Carver's followers: it would be easier to persuade the 400 days characters to betray Carver and join the revolution/breakout if they saw Carver beating up a little girl.
that would be a great idea!! (even though it would make the story/game much more branched)
nick's my fav.charater in this season since episode 2. he reminds me somehow of kenny.
i hope there will be a way to safe him or at least let him live for a few episodes!
if it's possibe...
i will do everything in my power to save him. (in my first run i fled with nick - so i promised myself to take care of nick x3)

Am I the only one here that went with Nick instead of Pete because I feared for his safety and because there was no way Pete was going to live? Yeah, okay, i'll just go sit in the corner for making a bad choice.

And maybe something similiar to Alvin? You can save them but it's not easy... It would make all the game much more interesting but I can see how much of work it is. So let's just hope TTG's do their best... and I think they will.
Nope, I was in the same boat as you. Ever since Nick apologised to me in the first episode, I knew he was a good guy with good intentions, and that he's only held back due to his extremely recent loses. I didn't even need Pete to tell me to take care of him. I still want him to live.

I don't want Nick to be like Ben, where his choices get increasingly asinine with every episode just so that more people will choose to kill him off, but it'd be nice to see him outlive episode 3.

I mentioned this Idea in a couple threads after playing the episode, glad you could put the time in to making a post about it.

Yes, I want Nick to live.
You and 50% of players kept your promise to Pete..
The same goes probably with Alvin too
That's pretty heavy. Show that right at the end of the season.

Wow, Pete didn't even have to ask you. He'd be proud.
