That's what I think, too. In SoMI the Voodoo Lady warned Guybrush that he might find out things about himself and the world he lives in which could scare him. I'm not sure Ron Gilbert ever planned a 3rd MI game.

Considering Ron didn't even want to make MI a comedy, and Dave/Tim wrote in so many funny lines...honestly I'm happy living in a world where Ron isn't involved. Deathspank seems to have some immature humor like farting on people as an attack. I've NOTHING against Ron, but I'm not pining for his game like some long lost treasure.

There already is an RPG with wacky, irreverent humor; fun quirky characters; exciting locations; beautiful artwork; scary bad guys; enemies, items and attacks that are obvious parodies of the genre; and a dark scary sad overarching storyline hidden under a veil of humor and wackyness. It's called Earthbound.

You have to shoot the dog at the end?

    Yeah. That's what I don't like about it. :(

Well I was talking for his hypothetical MI3 but yeah that too. >_>

    Here are my 10:

    1. Man was in the forest.

    2. Big Boss is still alive.

    3. Snape kills Dumbledore.

    4. When asked how it was created, the island will respond: "A wizard did it."

    5. The East India Trade Company has the chest.

    6. Waking the Wind Fish will make the island dissapear.

    7. The island is just a made up place to keep clones (that are being used as life in insurance) at bay.

    8. Scar really killed Mufassa.

    9. Baby Bowser polluted the island.

    10. Link is really a Hylean.

There is a theory which states that if ever Guybrush discovers exactly what Monkey Island is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

I know you're kidding, and it's in no way official, but your ret-con theory is depressing.:(

    My theories:

    1. The villain is Hugh Bliss.
    2. The villain is Rose Ben's dead sister.
    3. The villain is Trogdor.
    4. The roach killed the mailman.
    5. Guybrush opened a secret door and found a shiny control room being operated by a monkey. Then he says, in Japanese, "It was you all along!"
    6. The giant monkey head stole'd the Lappy.
    7. The ride was powered by kidnapped dogs.
    8. Le Chuck was a robot all along, the villain is Craig.
    9. Le Chuck got reincarnated as a bowl of tulips.
    10. They were in the present day all along.
    12. The guy's been dead all along.
    13. The villain is the camp's coach.
    14. The villain is the soda poppers.
    15. The villain is Ozymandias.
    15. Le Chuck killed Trudy.
    16. The villain is the dead body.
    17. The villain is the ship's steering wheel.
    18. Judge Doom killed his brother.
    19. The ending had aliens in it.
    20. They were actually toys inside a collection bin.
    21. Beatrice was their mother.
    22. There really was a cake.
    22. The president is a computer.
    23. The computer is a fembot.

Can you guess what each secret is a reference of?

    Ruff ruff ruff ruff ruff.
I'm of the opinion that EVERY crazy thing in life or fiction comes about because an animal is controlling us all. Completely.

Don't worry, I'm not crazy... at least, I don't think so.
In my restless dreams, I see that town.
I look like Mary, don't I? You loved her, right? Or maybe you hated her!

    :D

It would actually have been awesome if there could be an ending akin to that. Or a UFO ending. I know MI doesn't have multiple endings (well, SMI stictly had two different endings based on if you blast the ship) but it would appease SH fans (please add an SH in joke or reference!) :P

The Giant Monkey Head™ is the top of an ancient mecha piloted by monkeys! (Also, Herman Toothrot is Elaine's grandpa)

How about we stop guessing at the secret of Monkey Island™, because if it would be revealed then Guybrush™ wouldn't have any reason to exist and he would probably stop existing. And then all the Monkey Island™ adventures would disappear in retrospective.

Uh Oh.. bad dreams for me...no please...I NEED MONKEY ISLAND
(damn, forgot the ™, now they r prob gonna sue me :'-(

    NO!!!

    I mean, uh... no.

Guybrush was never looking for the secret of Monkey Island. In the first one; he's saving Elaine. In the second one; he's finding Big Whoop, as well as killing LeChuck. In the third one; he's breaking Elaine's curse. In the fourth one; he's stopping LeChuck's evil scheme to become governor. In the... sixth one, I guess; he's trying to win back Elaine as well as curing a zombie disease which infected his hand (without doing something rash, like cutting it off and replace it with a power tool or anything)

So, it's fine to reveal the secret of MI, since it's just a Macguffin.

    *mmm.... Glazed Macguffin*

All of you guys missed what's so obvious. Tales of MI can be seen as the 5th installment of the MI saga. Now think, what other island is currently at the end of it's 5th "installment"...? Is it a coincidence? Not at all! It's crystal clear now, Monkey Island™ is the Island of Lost! It's all part of an experiment of the DHARMA initiative that itself is set in motion by machinations of Jacob who is non other than Stan™. How else can you explain that he is everywhere?

LeChuck is Guybrush's father. Not enough information? Well, OK, I'll start from the beginning...
In the barren deserts of Melee Island™, Guybrush Threepwood lives with his aunt and uncle. While searching for one of his new pet monkeys who escaped to deliver a message in a bottle, he meets the great Jojo, for whom the message was intended for. The message is from a mysterious woman called Elaine, and it begins with, 'Help me, Jojo, you're my only hope. I know you were a great Monkey Kombat™ warrior and fought along side me in the voodoo wars.' The letter goes on and explains that the government has taken over the world and rules it with an iron fist. The world's only hope is a small group of rebel pirates that are fighting with their lives. Jojo tells Guybrush that his father was one of his students, a great Monkey Kombat™ warrior who was killed by the evil LeChuck, who was also trained by Jojo.
Guybrush returns home to find a smoldering crater in place of his hut. He goes back to Jojo and says, 'I want to become a Monkey Kombat™ warrior.' Jojo persuades Guybrush to come with him to Jumbalaya Island to learn the ways of Monkey Kombat™.
Together, they walk to the nearby Scumm Bar :)™ where they meet an over confident used ship salesman named Stan. After explaining their situation to him, he promises them travel to Jumbalaya Island™ for a fee of a lot of money. Jojo assures Stan that he will recieve more than that once the reach Jumbalaya Island™. However, instead of finding the pirate run hellhole, they come across a tourist's paridise. Jojo realises that this could only be done by the evil government's Recession Star.

(Ok, I can't keep this up)
    TO BE CONTINUED!

I'm pretty sure that Guybrush isn't human; he's an alien.

Yeah, right before his planet blew up, his parents put him in a space capsule and launched him to Earth, where he is found and raised by an elderly couple.

    No, wait, that's Stan's origin.

The true secret of Monkey Island, in my opinion, is that after nearly 20 years there are still so many fans. So many even that on July 7th 1335 people (!) were on the telltale forums at once and made the server crash down!

Why can't we pee in the pool? Its so much of a bother to walk all the way to the bathroom when you can just pee when your swimming.

The true secret is that the ending of Monkey Island 2™ was the product of a bad dream of Ron, caused by his homemade lasagna made following the tv program "Molto Mario™". That was also the way Deathspank was created.
It all makes sense now, doesn't it?

The real secret of Monkey Island™ is
it really does exist like the Tri-Island Area it's just hidden by a powerful voodoo curse so some idiot doesn't show up and bring back LeChuck and the games are really a warning to stop history repeating itself and finally Dominic Armato's real surname is Threepwood
    .

Macco's saying the title should have been "The Secret Monkey Island", as in the island is secret.

    It's a joke.

    hmm.

Well, apparently it's not secret according to MI2:SE, since a map of Monkey Island is tacked to the wall inside Wally's place in the screenshots we've seen.

The Secret Of Monkey Island is a best-selling 2006 self-help and spirituality book written by Rhonda Gilbert. A film based on The Secret Of Monkey Island was released before the book in DVD format. The tenet of the book is that an individual's focused positive thinking can result in life-changing results such as increased wealth, health, happiness and monkeys. The book achieved high sales after being featured in two episodes of Oprah, whereafter the book reached the top of the New York Times bestseller list and the film based on the book reached #1 on the sales charts on Amazon.com.
