How would you travel in the zombie apocalypse?

edited April 2014 in The Walking Dead

If you had a choice....Would you go by vehicle?
Horse?
Or on foot?

I would prefer to drive, using my Dodge Ram Diesel.
May not be the most quiet truck in the world, but with that good ol' Cummings motor in it, it's got tons of power, and gets great fuel mileage,( best I've ever seen it get on the interstates, is 25 miles per gallon, and in town it gets 20 miles per gallon).

Cummings is the best diesel motor out there.
You take of it, and it'll take care of you.
My truck, is 17 years old, and the old girl still runs like a top!

But if I had to, I'd walk.
Which not a real big problem for me, as I walk 5 miles every day, as part of my exercise regiment.

If on foot, I'd travel pretty light.
The only things I'd carry in my backpack would be, a fresh set of clothes ( an extra pair of jeans, boxers, T shirt, flannel shirt and coat), a couple of cans of beans ( As their high in nutrition), a cigarette lighter, a compass, my canteen.

On my belt I'd be carrying my 1911 A1 semi-automatic pistol ( .45 caliber), and my Wellstone 15 inch jungle master hunting knife.
And I'd be carrying, in my hand, my .308 bolt action Winchester rifle.

As far as horses.
Never did learn how to ride, so that's not an option.

Comments

  • I'd rather not bother scrounging for gasoline, nor do I have knowledge of riding horses, so on foot it is. Easier to dodge walkers and allows for pedestrian parkour.

And if I really, REALLY need a ride from a trucker... Well, I do have a real purdy mouth.

  • I'd probably walk. I would prefer to drive but after a while it would probably prove too difficult to find gas.

  • I'd probably walk, driving would attract walkers and bandits and gas would be difficult to get.

  • probably a hot air balloon :)

  • My old Winnebago.

It's failed me when I needed it most before, but fuck, the idea of surviving a ZA in it has too much novelty to resist. :S

everyone seems to forget bicycles. best way of transportation and it's only seen once in the series.

Now that's what I call going green.
    Lol!

  • I'd walk or use a bicycle. I would use a jeep, or simply a car, only if I have to search ammo, food, bandages far away my "camp".

  • Zombie herpes.

  • Horse for me, know how to ride one, how to put on a saddle ect, how brush them and basic care. Plus it would be easy for me to get one around where I live, and I can't ride a bike, or drive a car. So definitely a horse. The only think to worry about is it getting enough nutrition since the only food it has is grass now.

On a more serious note, probably on foot. A car would need gas and maintenance, and you'd need more cars if you were in a group.

  • I'd probably get back into Free-running, and use trucks for moving supplies and people. Also, everybody has seemed to forget CAMELS!!

  • A fine choice.
The problem, if a diesel runs out of fuel, that pretty much wrecks the motor.

  • Bicycles seem ideal for the ZA, they're reasonably fast and dont make too much noise.
In a real ZA, helluva lot more people would make use of it.

Ok. Not really. Probably I would have to walk.

  • I'd ride a bicycle. Horses need to be fed, taken care of, and would probably fly off their nut at the sight of a zombie horde. I also don't feel like looking around everywhere for gas. Although the protection and carrying capacity of a car does seem like a huge plus.

I'd wear jeans (because denim is tough for a zombie to bite through) even though I hate the way they look on me lol, running shoes, t-shirt under some kinda tough jacket, cowboy hat, shades, and workmen gloves. I'm pretty sure a zombie would have a tough time biting through all that stuff.

My backpack would carry some canned foods, extra clothes, lighter, knifes, medical supplies, and ammo. As for weapons all I'd be able to start with would be my M9. Whatever other weapon I'd carry would have to be found.

  • I've never seen anything like that before.
    Pretty cool man!
    How did you find it?

    Zombies probably can't swim

  • I hear that!

    Nice choice of pistol.
Respectfully though, I've fired both the M1 1911 and the Beretta M9, and I have found that even though the Beretta has a greater clip capacity, the M1 1911 has greater stopping power.

    Does this count?

  • I would go on foot :P And wear leather, dem zambies can't bite through leather.

  • Different vehicles for different situations!

Living on a densely populated island, id start with trying to find a motorcycle, or even a vespa (i dont have to be going all that fast) to try and get across the bridges. (After waiting a while for people to... dissipate)

At that point, a large SUV would be ideal, to get around blocked roads to go offroading and also sleeping inside of it in isolated areas if im on the road for extended periods, as well as having a lot of storage space

  • I see you didn't list bird as an option :I

  • I would ride a bike. Doesn't need gas, good on rough terrain, and it isn't very loud.

  • Alt text Maybe I'd go Organ Trail style with a Station Wagon if we could find one. Plenty of storage.

  • Fucking FUBAR

Wise words from good ol' Pete!
