The Dark Ages of TellTale Games
Ever since TellTale started doing more Action/Adventure-related games, comedy has started to go downhill.
There were no more Sam and Max seasons to be made, no other form of comedy series to be made into point-n-click adventure games.
I think TellTale is starting to go into the Dark Game Ages. Example of such games: Game of Thrones, The Wolf Among Us and especially "The Walking Dead".

Or did you mean the comedic games that have been/will be released after The Walking Dead?
2013: Poker Night 2

Borderlands is harder, since we don't know much about Telltale's game yet, but this screenshot shows the humor of the universe: media1.gameinformer.com/imagefeed/featured/2kgames/borderlands/claptrap0424-610.jpg
If you've played the Borderlands games, you probably know that they have a sense of humor, and Telltale is known for staying faithful to source material.
As for the Borderlands franchise on the whole, this video shows the humor of the Borderlands universe pretty well (and is where the screenshot I posted above came from):

It's a start, but it's not like the Sam and Max humor I was expecting.
TellTale Games needs to get back to their A-Games, they did a lot more friendlier/comedy-based games in their day: Wallace and Gromit, Strong Bad, Hector: Badge of Courage.
Unless if they have any more humor-based games in the works, then it's like I said: Telltale is starting to go into the Dark Age of Games.
I wouldn't call Hector: Badge of Carnage a friendlier game. It's humor is more of the Borderlands style of humor, with sarcastic characters over a violent backdrop. 2012 was the only year without a humorous game by Telltale, and that was out of Telltale's hands, as it was only because the delay of Jurassic Park and Activision pulling the rights to King's Quest threw a wrench in the works, since only two seasons were released that year, with no episodes released to begin a new third season, and no small Pilot Program style games were released (which is very much against the norm for modern Telltale).
"Visual", all right. Go and seek out the Season 5 "X-Files" episode "Bad Blood". The Tales from the Borderlands game has about the same premise of two unreliable narrators and their opposing viewpoints on the same situation.
And the X-Files episode is hilarious already.
You forgot 2013, it was also a humorless year.
But either way, Telltale is becoming a dark and desolate Gaming Franchise.
Unless if they come up with a funnier game than the Borderlands one, TellTale is gonna start going down hill from here.
Didn't Poker night 2 come out in 2013?
Oh, right. ^^; Well, it didn't actually count as a episodic game. I was hoping for humorous episodic games. But Poker Night 2 didn't count.
° It's a game by telltale
° It's (really!) funny
° It came out in 2013
It may not be episodic but it's a project by telltale that is quite funny. Along with Borderlands coming out this year which will be this years comedic experiment by telltale
And what is so and about that?
People like their 'darker' games, they're making more money from their 'darker games', they are getting more attention from these evil satanic 'darker' games.
You realize that all these darker games have made the company more popular... right?
All the dark age started with 3 Words: The Walking Dead
... which is probably Telltale's best work to date. And then it led to other amazing works like Wolf and Game of Thrones coming up.
Comedy is fun and Telltale is still doing it. But more people are into the darker stuff and thats perfectly fine because those games are very good.
This is Telltale's best and most popular series to date. Your point is invalid.
Wel, to be fair, It wasn't so much the "darkness" as much as it was a combination of the quality of writing from experience that Telltale has gained from their previous games, in addition to the fact that the AMC show broke out in popularity around the same time Season 1 was released. It was more or less the right moment at the right time for Telltale.
As long as the universe is engaging and imaginative, I'm indifferent to whether Telltale's games are "dark" or "funny." Potato, po-tah-to, etc. For example, Wolf Among Us in my opinion was a great game that, while dark, was still based off of an interesting and atmospheric premise similar to Telltale's older games.
...that's kind of a strawman, no?
As I said in another post, I'm indifferent as to whether the game is "dark" or "funny" as long as the premise of the source material is original and engaging.
all you need to do is play borderlands 2.....
Yeah Yeah! But before there was another called Sam & Max and after The Walking Dead only dark stuff
...So? They're good at doing the dark stuff, and people like it. That's the opposite of a "dark age".
There wasn't only dark subject matter from Telltale Games after The Walking Dead. Humorous games are still coming out. Poker Night 2 was released in 2013, and Tales of the Borderlands is coming this year.
well only two
Telltale only releases two or three games a year. In 2013 and 2014 there have been or will be four games: Poker Night 2, The Walking Dead: Season Two, The Wolf Among Us, and Tales from the Borderlands. Half of those are comedy games.
Dark themed games are not new since The Walking Dead. Telltale has always done a mix of dark themed games and comedies (from 2006 to 2010 they had CSI games and they had Law & Order in 2012).
We don't know what's going to be released in 2015 besides Game of Thrones (which is likely to go into 2015 since it will be released at least at some point after Tales from the Borderlands has already started it's season). It's likely there will be a comedic release announced at some point (Back to the Future: Season Two is rumored, since Christopher Lloyd said he was going to be playing Doc in more Telltale episodes at the Fan Expo in Canada in 2012).
great!
It's times like I these I have just one thing to say about all this:
When will Sam and Max come back in style?
never i guess!
they will keeping making the walking dead
In a previous Reddit AMA back around 2013, Kevin Bruner did kind of hint that they did not forget about Sam and Max, but that it would be a while before we see them again.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/1phemu/we_are_dan_connors_kevin_bruner_founders_of/cd2bgra
so it must be the walking dead anyway
At this point they have other big franchises than just the Walking Dead. You may as well add Batman, Marvel, Game of Thrones, etc to the list. I get your point but it seems odd to only single out Walking Dead at this point in time.
The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead are two of my favorite games of all time. They've seem to have more success with their present games more than they ever did with their retro/past games
