What was the first console you got hooked on playing?

Just curious. Mine was the first Playstation. I remember thinking those graphics were amazing.

Atari 2600. I got high scores in Kaboom! and Pitfall 2, sent Polaroids of the TV screens to Atari and got patches for both games. The kind you sew onto fabric, not the software kind of patch.

a lot of older people got into gaming through the previous generation ( mainly xbox and ps2), and carried on onto the current gen ( 360, ps3 and wii) no it isn't next gen they are all out so is current gen/rant

my first console was a mega drive followed by a snes

    Commodore 64

    Use - Key - In - Door

(I think we all know what game that is...)

Obviously the NES. The console belonged to my sister until she passed it on to me when I was three. I think the first NES game I played was either Duck Hunt or the first Super Mario Bros.

I wasn't really into video games until the N64. My first video game on it was either Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, or Banjo Kazooie(still trying to get an Xbox for their soon to be remake and third in the series.:))

I just want to add something: I remember loving the NES and SNES, then my cousin said he got a "Nintendo 64". I went over to his house and played Super Mario 64, whose 3D graphics and huge amount of explor-ability blew my mind. And it's been downhill ever since.

NES for me, but the first console I actually owned was a Genersis. But I used to play NES all the time in stores and over at my cousin's.

To this day I haven't been able to get the hang of platforming in 3-D, so Mario lost lots of his appeal to me with the 64, though it had the last Mario Kart game which I really liked.

Sega Master System. No, I'm not getting reminiscent and teary eyed. Nope. :sniff:

We had Commodore 64 (which is a computer, not console) so long that our first console was an old Nintendo 64 in late 90's. Now I have a laptop with 64bit processor. =D

I liked the N64. It was probably the first game system I ever played.

Sega Master System. I didn't actually own it, but they had one at after school care, and I went on it every chance I got. Any of the music from the first four stages of the first Sonic game for the Master System makes me nostalgic. The first time I played Super Smash Brothers Brawl as Sonic, on Green Hill Zone, with the Green Hill Zone music... well, I teared up a little. I'm kind of sappy.

The first console I actually owned and was allowed to play for more than half an hour at time was a Nintendo 64. I absolutely loved Banjo-Kazooie, and could not wait for Banjo-Tooie. Speaking of which, the Australian release date for Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts is exactly eight years after the American release date for Banjo-Tooie, to the day.

I also spent enough time playing Diddy Kong Racing that I became skilled enough to unlock TT. So too much, basically.

I have a N64, too. I can't believe they still make Banjo Kazooie games at the present time.

It all started when my parents bought a snes for me and my brother. The hours paying Super Mario and Zelda. The most fun though was with NHL 93.

Aaahhhh, hitting players after the whistle to flip them over, the old go around the net trick... Good times, good times.

I suppose an Apple II doesn't count?

If not the Apple II, then it comes down to either the Sega Genesis or Nintendo 64. I actually got both around the same time, I remember games for the Genesis being far cheaper so I got more of them. I probably got the Genesis first, but there was definitely an overlapping period of time during which I'd play both, which is probably a fairly unique experience.

My mighty Tunix, back in about 1979. It was a clone of the US Emerson Arcadia.

I got the Intellivision back in the early 80s:

    mattel_intellivision_1s.jpg

Then shortly after I got the Dragon 32:

    Mach_-_Dragon_32-1.jpg

I'd have to say both created the love of video games which I still have today.

NES is the only console I have ever owned.

I also had Amiga 500, before I bought my first PC. And since it turned out that best strategy and adventure games are for PC, I haven't had need to buy any other game machine besides PC. I also have developed irrational hatred towards gamepads* and I think that nothing beats mouse+keyboard combination.

*NES gamepads made my thumbs sore after longer playing sessions.

My first big videogame system was the Game Boy Color. The majority of the games I owned were licensed games, like Rugrats, Disney, SpongeBob, and all that crap. And a lot of the games we had rented from Blockbuster, because it was cheaper that way. I wasn't introduced to Mario and Sonic until much, much later. I had this fun little Disney Tetris game, though. I now have a personal grudge against Tetris for ruining my life.

    Remembering most...Probably SNES.

the Master System II, with Sonic built in bios.
I never relaly got adicted to our CPC 6128

The first console I owned and still have is the original Master System (the box one, not the one with the rounded edges).

Of course, it was the Spectrum and Amiga that really got me into gaming.

My first handheld console was a Game Boy Color. Ah, the memories from Pokemon Yellow. An enormous Pikachu following me everywhere, not knowing when you level up.
    That was a great game.
Wasn't there a glitch that made you fight a Pokemon over level 100?

My first big console was a Playstation 2, with.. plenty of sports games.

... I believe I'm getting a bit nostalgic here. Good thing I still have both consoles w/ games.

SNES with Mario and a lot of those old RPGs. Secret of Mana/Evermore, Terranigma and stuff like that. From that point on i owned every Nintendo-Console although there were less and less interesting games with every generation. But i'm still happy with Mario and Zelda :P

I played on the PC parallel and adventures were the first games that got my attention - actually one of my older brothers showed me monkey island and day of the tentacle back then. man i'm glad he did that. xD
