I remember doing about these in english a while back. We were using them as inspiration for our creative writing coursework, oddly enough. Didn't they make a film of it aswell?

Please tell me, it has nothing to do with gender confusion.

Maybe he could win it by dying pulling off a a huge manly burp?

You are only truly eligible for a Darwin Award if you are removed from the gene pool, meaning, you are unable to procreate after said incidence or haven't procreated before the incident.

Unless they changed it recently, you're eligible for a Darwin Award if you've died or otherwise rendered yourself unable to procreate as a result of doing something stupid, regardless of whether you've have kids in the past.

I'm not too fond of the whole idea, honestly. Laughing at people dying just feels wrong, no matter how silly the circumstance. Maybe I'm just being uptight? (And slightly hypocritical, considering my almost mania-like glee when torturing pedestrians in GTA :p)

    F***ing OWNED

That being said, I find this site to be incredibly offensive. Anyone who takes pleasure in reading about & making fun of the deaths of other human beings are seriously F***ed up & need to get a life.

No, that's the rule. If you die or render yourself sterile, then you're eligible.

They've released about 5 books with some of the best Darwins, and I own the first two. There's some great stories in them. I think my favourite one was about a guy who leaped over a few security rails at a hanging rollercoaster and got his head kicked off by one of the riders, breaking her leg and causing her to promptly sue the theme park.

ShaggE, I wouldn't say you're uptight. I'm with you on this one. And you're not hypocritical, either - the difference is reality vs fiction.

When I was younger I used to get a smirk or two out of the Darwin awards. Maybe I've grown a greater sense of empathy over the years (or maybe I've just lost a little humour), but I don't find them at all funny now.

I can't help thinking that this is someone's brother/mother/friend etc who has died (usually in a horrible way). Grief is a very difficult thing to go through, and poking fun at someone's dead loved one feels all wrong to me.

Dark humour like this would be fine if it was fictional, but I keep seeing the real people behind the stories.

    * Not trying to denigrate anyone who does enjoy the Darwins, just sharing my point of view.

No one is laughing at the fact that they are dead or that they got killed, they're laughing at the completely idiotic things they did to get corpse'd up.

It is idiotic comments like that that remind me why I tend to hate human being so much...

I have to admit, upon reading them now, they just don't seem funny. I may get the odd smile, but that's short lived. When i was younger, i didn't see it much differently to an episode of "You've been framed" (a show where you send in funny recordings taken on your camcorder, like people falling over, or someone being chased by a goose and so on). I guess you just don't care about stuff like that when you are younger...

So much for everyone being civil on these forums.

That's a little harsh roberttitus. I know how you feel, the Darwin awards are rather like "America's Funniest Home Injuries" only "edgier" so more people find them appealing, but compared to a lot of other things they're relatively harmless. Don't let them get you down, okay? Go watch a documentary on Pete Seegar or something.

Also, about 50% of all stories actually winning the award turn out fake anyway.

You people make me sick. I wondered why I hadn't taken part in the discussions on this forium for so long and this pretty much says it all.
I see that assface Pale Man is still proving what a worthless human being he truly is and on top of that he is kissing the ass of all the mods so that he never gets into trouble on here. Congrats bro! You know how to work the system.
This thread should be locked. It is utterly discusting to think that this is what has become of our species. Laughing at the deaths of others like it is so freaking stand up show. Anyone justifying this kind of behavior should be tied to a tree and beaten mercilessly. I am leaving this forum and this site for good. I refuse to purchase games from a company that accepts this behavior as OK as long as the poster has there lips planted to there ass. Good day and may your company go bankrupt when Lucas Arts decides that you aren't worth carrying there IPs.
