Oh, and for those who didn't know about it... Sam & Max are also on Twitter:

    http://www.twitter.com/presidentmax
    http://www.twitter.com/justplainsam

They occasionally post witty, scary, or exceedingly random things :)

I still scoff at the idea of Twitting, but I may just have to keep up with these. :D

But I shall not Twit in kind. No Twittery on my end, no sir. I do not feel Twitty, oh so Twitty.

It's okay, when you cave and start using it, we won't sneer or say 'I told you so.' Except just now. And maybe once or twice more :)

I've been tempted to make a joke account and Twit through the experiences of a fictional character. But every time I start a project, I abandon it.

    The only exceptions are
The Whole Rolle (a now-dead website dedicated to Esther Rolle. Highlight: A transcript of the First Annual Rolle Bowl, in which the football is replaced with a hot dog.)
Fuzzy Waffle (a series of stories and comics written under a pseudonym)
    Dance Medley (don't ask).

So, thanks to my infinite ambition and complete lack of follow-through, nary a Twit shall come of me.

/long-winded post that stems from sheer boredom and an affinity for the word "Twit".

In my hometown, someone calls you a twit it's an insult meaning your an idiot. What's the real meaning? And also... I'm not receiving newsletter from TellTale these days. I hope you guys aren't being shut down or anything. Cause i love you.

We do our best to keep the newsletter monthly, but sometimes it gets out prioritized by other stuff! I saw David working on one though, so some day you will be graced by a new Interloper.
  • edited January 2009
As far as I've seen from the newsletter, it should be called the somewhat now and again newsletter, but that doesn't sound as good as calling it monthly.

The real meaning of "twit" is exactly what you said.

Twitter on the other hand is (from dictionary.com)

    1. to utter a succession of small, tremulous sounds, as a bird.
    2. to talk lightly and rapidly, esp. of trivial matters; chatter.
    3. to titter; giggle.
    4. to tremble with excitement or the like; be in a flutter.

Obviously the name of the service takes inspiration form the second definition. :D

The act of updating twitter (v.) is often called "to tweet", and a single update (n.) is also called a "tweet". I've also heard "to twitter" when describing the action, but never "to twit". I'm guessing that the first definition of twitter you listed also comes into play.

My parents are Twitter addic--er, aficionados. They've been doing this stuff for a while now. I should probably tell them about this ;)

Well, that's no fun. :p I much prefer "to twit". And thus, it shall remain so in my vernacular. Just say no to "tweet"!

Yes, I have issues. I'm pretty sure that's common knowledge around here by now. :D

I'm "a twit." Does that count?

Do Sam and Max even pay attention to what the other is doing or saying, or do they just fire off random @replies?

Heh.. the @replies are random, in hopes of producing some hilarious results. Sometimes it work, sometimes it doesn't :)

You mean like this recent occurrence?
    JustPlainSam: It's Arbor Day!
PresidentMax: I'm too cute to be homeless!

For some reason that caused me to literally lol.
  • edited February 2009
Yeah, every now and then they line up awesomely :)

Fun needless detail for the curious:

The odds of a normal message being twittered are based on time. Over the course of 18 hours, the odds of a message being posted increase until they're 1-in-1 at the 18 hour mark. Once a message is posted, the clock resets. The @ replies are based on a straight 10% (I believe) chance of one being posted when a normal message is posted for any character.

It's probably getting time to feed more lines into their pool :)

I personally don't see the point in twitter. If you want short bursts of text, why not use IM?

Twitter doesn't ave the real-time obligation of IMs, and it also doesn't have the baggage of social networking sites (following someone on Twitter isn't also somehow presented in the context of you being their "friend," which makes it far less awkward to follow/unfollow someone, or to ignore someone, etc).

Twitter reminds me more of old general discussion boards on either BBSes, or very early wwwboard web messageboard software, but you get to choose which users are participating in your own personal instance of that board. It's one of the lowest-impact ways I've seen of successfully keeping up with what various people are doing/thinking without any other baggage.

tl;dr I was skeptical for a year or two but after I actually started using it I was converted to a supporter very quickly.

Y'know, I'm starting to get a really bad urge to twitter Ben Stiller with a link to Abe Lincoln Must Die, because of Lincoln being in Night at the Museum 2. Now all I need is an account...
