How has this not been mentioned yet (I guess because very good things came from it in the form of Telltale Games, but still)?

    A blessing in disguise :)

:confused:When, oh When, is LucasArts going to Re-Release Sam and Max Hit the Road for Windows Vista? Or have they completely given up on old PC gamers?!:(

if you still have the disc/s you can play them in vista (or any other windows version) by using the scumm virtual machine (www.scummvm.org). i'm using the options: fullscreen / graphics mode: HQ3x

works for all my old lucasarts adventure games!

I'll vote for the death of adventure games. Thankfully they're starting to claw their way back but the heyday of point and click adventure gaming is gone.. It's sad.

oh! And games created for the passion of the game, not because it'll sell. These days, games like Loom wouldn't even get a chance because omg, commercial success so much more important!
The Wii has helped that a little though. so yay!

I miss shareware, I miss the era of adventure games, I miss really random and strange games lol.

Unfortunately it's all pretty pretty graphics and no soul. Here's hoping that trend dies soon.

You are posting on a forum for a gaming company that has only made point and clicks.

^ Look a couple of words back. One company consistently putting out point n' clicks does not constitute a "heyday". Barely even a "heyminute". And certainly not a "heyfortnight".

I'm pretty surprised nobody mentioned the death of SNK. We're up to five pages and yet we get the "Death of Adventure games" despite them still being available (Telltale, Ace Attorney, Broken Sword, etc.). Better there be a cult following of Adventure games than they not exist at all.

Edit: Come to think of it, the same could be said about SNK...

Worst things in the game industry:

The following companies going out of business

    - Black Isle
    -Troika Games
-Flagship Studios (I saw so little from them before they folded)
(I'm sure I'm missing a couple other big ones)

    Significant sad events:

    - Rise and fall of LucasArts
    - Rise of EA and subsequent buyout of BioWare
    - Rise and fall of Lionhead Studios
    - Sony E3 2006 $599 USD Rrrrridge Racer!
    - Nintendo E3 2008 Wii Music
    - Rise of casual games
    - Rise of mmorpg
    - Fall of the adventure game (Tim Schafer making action adventure instead of adventure. Ron Gilbert not making anything good since MI2)
    - Koei making the same game over and over
    - Failure of the Dreamcast

    Funny events:

    Duke Nukem Forever

Never forget games that ended up looking promising, then playing like crap.
I could make an entire Photo Slide. I don't have many adventure games, because the first one I had ever seen, I can't remember the name to. I was young. My dad had it, and showed it to me. All I can remember is it involved some prince getting some princess from some forced marriage, some weird area with chess pieces, killing the Minotaur and getting two people back to life by taking up the Devil's challenge of
making him cry, which you used a mirror for. And there was some weird sword fight at the end, and some genie. All I remember.
Here has to be the most sad moment in gaming history, The fact Nintendo refuses to re-release EarthBound, when all they have to do is get the rights to have some songs similar to some real songs. How difficult can that be, honestly.

SNK is still around... there was a new-ish Metal Slug game, as well as King of Fighters XII coming out this summer. Sure, they aren't pumping out quarter-munchers like Super Baseball 2020 or Windjammers, but they're not dead.

    The entire game Mother 3?

    Ooh, I definitely have one.

As a huge Rayman fan, it was a sad, sad moment when the highly anticipated Rayman 4 was trashed and changed into Raving Rabbids instead. God. :( The E3 video was so awesome, Michel Ancel was the leader of the project.. it was just screaming for the chance of being another great platform/adventure masterpiece in Rayman's history.. But Nooo. Suddenly they got the beta kit of the Wii, and decide "hey, let's make a minigame collection instead!" And Ancel.. just disappeared into some other projects.

I SERIOUSLY hope that the upcoming "Rabbids Go Home" will be the last thing we see out of those bunnies. I really want to see another Rayman platformer to see a light of the day.. and it shall be something that DOES NOT mock him up as a clown.

    Sorry, my little rant. :D

Wow! Just this day, I read a letter about that in an issue of Nintendo Power, and Rayman WILL come back, someday, according to whoever answers letters down at Nintendo Power.

Hehe, I wonder who it was who said it. :D Sure, it has been speculated a lot, but I'd still like to know a proper announcement from Ubisoft or something. All they keep talking about is these rabbids all the time, even now. D:

..but I'm glad to hear someone took the trouble to write on the Nintendo Power about this!

Hey Goozers, I want to make a video about the top ten saddest moments in the video game industry, but didn't know which ones to choose. Any suggestions? An example for an answer is "When Naughty Dog gave up the Crash Bandicoot franchise." not
    "When Aeris dies in FFIV."[SPOILER/]

When Looking Glass Studios closed its doors. The Thief games they made were the best!

Considering the amazing awesomeness that is called Psychonauts, I wouldn't call this a bad thing.

I'll have to say that the saddest moments for me were LucasArts stopping making adventure games, the end of the Space Quest series, the end of the Elite series and Appeal going bankrupt (I want Outcast 2 :().
