It's a movie series with a contrived plot where in the not-to-distant future, all crime is eliminated in America because they have a yearly "Purge" event that allows people to get away with any crime for one night without being punished for it.
Somebody on Twitter or Facebook allegedly made a poster advertising a real life Purge event, and according to this thread, people are surprisingly taking it seriously.
