Holy crap, I'm so glad you're safe. I almost threw up when I read about these things. Here in Finland, the scariest crime that can happen to you is someone stealing your bicycle from your yard.

  • For those who live in Louisville, did the police do anything about it? Was it complete chaos?

  • Yay, legoland :D

All of the news articles are saying that it never happened.... EDIT: But one said that there were two shooting there, but they were unrelated to the hoax.

Apparently a teen prankster started a Louisville, KY purge hoax. "The unnamed teenager thought it would be funny to circulate rumors of a 12-hour crime spree, but as 80,000 people tuned into an online police scanner, nothing happened" The Ferguson, Missouri purge is just a twitter hoax too (there's no one doing random violence to purge the population there, anyone who says so is shamelessly using the tragic Michael Brown shooting to fuel fear for the hoax, which is beyond wrong). I wouldn't worry about any other people saying a purge will be happening in other cities, as they're hoaxes too.

  • Part purge hoax is what everyone took from this? Good to see that white America has it's priorities in order. :/

The shooting of Michael Brown is a completely different, tragic situation from the hoax (although the shooting was used to fuel the fear, which is beyond wrong). The hoax was just an unnamed teenager starting a twitter hoax by saying that a purge (copying the movie where regular people commit serious crimes for one day) was happening in two cities (Louisville, KY and Ferguson, MS), when it wasn't (and they're saying it will happen in other cities, which are hoaxes too).

  • Ah, thanks for the clarification. Very crafty (and mean-spirited) to use the shooting as a means of legitimizing the hoax.

There were only two shootings in Lousiville, KY, and they were unrelated to the purge. The riots in Ferguson, Missouri are also unrelated to the purge (the people who are linking the riots to the purge are just fear mongering). No one is killing anyone because they read a flyer or a twitter post about a purge. Any violence that was said to have been committed by the purge didn't happen, all of the accounts of purge crimes are just a hoax.

That said though, I hope the riots in Ferguson are dealt with soon. Keep up your spirits, and keep yourself safe until then.

The Purge is a 2013 horror film where the government tries to end crime by making all crime legal for 24 hours, which leads to regular people committing horrible crimes including murder. There was an unnamed teenager who went on twitter and started a hoax that the purge would be happening for real in several cities, shamelessly using the tragic death of an unarmed 18 year old teenager named Michael Brown who was shot by police in Ferguson, Missouri to fuel the fear for the hoax.

I know I sound really stupid here, but what exactly do you guys mean by "purge''?

  • Thank goodness nothing happened. For a second I was thinking shit was gonna hit the fan and it was going to be the downfall of America, (yeah paranoid much?) Well, we can all sleep in peace knowing that the purge was just a prick prank.

  • Some places are still in a bit of a pickle. Race rioting is never good, purge or no.

I don't know actually, maybe god finally noticed our little country lol

This place isn't any shangri-la, tho, lot of other bad things than crimes here :/

If you are American you could actually maybe enjoy your time in here, our slang comes from english and sweden words, people dress up like Americans, there's American products everywhere, American food etc. the list goes on...

I am so visiting Finland someday! How is the continent that used to be incredibly violent now so safe?
