When I make female characters it's because of role playing purposes. I usually like to create a story...When I played GTA 4 Multiplayer with… more my friends I used this female model (For no real reason) and when I had GTA V I played as that same person pretending it was a continuation as her story.
Usually it just helps me create up interesting stories and I dress them correctly and normally. I usually play as a guy but when I do make a female character I do it because it helps with role playing.
Well for me, it's because in early games there was always that "mission" that existed in most games. The girl goes missing/is kidnapped. We need to save her. Yay. We saved her. It's a bit of a tired theme for me that has been overdone. And also the millions of Super Mario games that involve saving Peach again.

Both are relatively useless and need to be saved.

It's just overall more appealing seeing the female main character as someone who doesn't need saving, but can handle themselves. Also the fact that they aren't overly-sexualized is great to.
But everything I said in that is true, I play as females sometimes for role playing. I don't know why you are comparing females in video games to porn...
The reason there are more male characters in main roles (as in the main playable character if that's what you mean) than females in video games, is because male gamers still make up a huge bulk of the demographic that a lot of companies are trying to appeal too. Yeah, the demographic for female gamers have gone up significantly (I think almost half, idk) but how many female gamers, percentage wise, play games like Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, Far Cry, etc. compared to males? It has nothing to do with developers thinking that male characters can take more damage, because that wouldn't really make sense, since you don't have to apply any form of realism when it comes to developing games. I mean, in most shooter games nowadays, the main characters can get shot in head and chest and be perfectly fine in ten seconds if they just take cover.
Be that as it may, I think it's great that we are seeing more and more female characters in main roles in video games, because in my opinion, it give the developers and writers a chance to develop unique and more interesting stories.
sorry for making you angry it wasn't my intention. In past games in the early 90's that I have played females were based as sex symbols and … morethat's pretty much it. Now days its a lot better. Females are portrait as strong characters. they don't back down. Dragon Age is one of my games where I can create my own character and females in that series are protraited amazingly. Female characters have come a long way.
Still Female characters aren't in the main role. for most games its about the men - I don't know why - because the makers of the game think that men characters can take more damaged : ( its weird.
You have a good point, personally I don't know many girl gamers. I don't see them playing call of duty, grand theft auto or far cry. However a game like the last off us I would want to play. great characters ,story element, and the dialog is priceless.
what I was talking about through was girl characters in video games, we are seeing more but they are really badass and don't always see them fighting. Most are arnt the main playable character but that leads to character/ the stories that the developers want to tell. While I find female characters are more relatable what I enjoy more in game is the story, characters and the dialoag.

Well, there actually are a lot of games where female characters are the main playable protagonists. The thing is, most people don't know these games exist because they are either niche, meaning that they're only made to cater to a specific audience therefore they don't receive a lot of attention, or they never get released outside the country they're made in such as Japan. One series in particular I'm talking about is the Atelier series, where 95% of the games consist of the main playable protagonists being female, and more often than not, the entire cast is female. And there have been a total of 24 games made from this series (not counting ports and remakes).
I guess it depends more on the types of games you play. I mainly play RPGs (mostly JRPGs) and Fighting Games, and in those genres there are almost equally the same amount of main female characters in the cast as male and they are just as playable, especially in the fighting games I've played. I've played some RPGs where the entire party is female as well as RPGs where the entire party is male.

Yeah,,but i think that companies still fear that female protagonists won't be appealing, i remember reading that Nickelodeon was afraid that Korra was a female, cause they thought that kids won't like it, but when they show them the first episode they said she was awesome,

That is like saying you watch porn for the plot
