Arrrrrrr I'm a pirate from...

edited September 2009 in Tales of Monkey Island
First I have to say sorry for not listing all countries of the world and unite the scandinavians. Shame on me!

Second: I'm from Germany and live in Rostock on the coast of the baltic sea. I'm still looking for a map, a ship and a crew to rule the oceans.

Hallo! Ich komme aus Norwegen, im Westen, in der Mitte des Ozeans. ;)
...still remember some German from school=P Aber nur ein bisschen;)
Can't guarantee that it's all correct tho. German was never really my strong side=P

Edit; Do you learn german at school in norway?

WEll, we can if we want to. In 8th grade we can chose an additional class to take, and German is one of the choices.

I'm from the US... but that doesn't mean I wear a cowboy hat and talk really loud.

Nationality or actually the country you're living in at the moment? Because in my case they're two different things :)

Is it possible to change a field? Nobody from Wales, Scotland or Ireland will ever check the field marked 'England' without a fight.

I think it should mean that, though. Bit misleading username when you're really a United State'ion...

Aye, it does seem that a few too many non-Brits take "England" as synonymous for "Britain" or "United Kingdom". Definition is everything; a Scot will no more tick the field for "England" than I would for "Germany".

A nice Euler diagram to display our quaint and complicated naming system in the British Isles for those of you outside of our waters.

Same thing with "Holland" and "The Netherlands". Many people seem them as the same thing, while in fact they're not. "Holland" is just a part of the country.

I always thought that calling Britain 'England' was a bit silly, after all, it's like calling the United States 'Washington D.C.', Canada 'Toronto', or Germany 'Moscow'.

I know that if I made any of those slip-ups, I'd feel really very foolish indeed. <.<

    Anyway, I'm from Wales.

it's like calling [...] Germany 'Moscow'.
Moscow is the capital city of the Russian Federation.

It would be calling Germany 'Bavaria'

 Oh, I know. But I was pointing out how silly it is, and that you might as well call one thing anything. I should've used Ottawa for Canada too, if you're saying that, but I wasn't trying to be logical.

(I was almost tempted to say "India 'Tokyo'" too, but I felt that would be taking it a bit too far.)

But isn't it swell how these games have been enjoyed by so many people from all over the world?
  • edited June 2009
    Wow, not many Canadians eh?
  • edited June 2009
I'm only half American (Californian to be more accurate, what do I know about Minnesota?) so I don't wear cowboy boots, just talk loudly. But really, aren't pirates universal? Oh, and just so you know, I didn't click American in the poll, but I couldn't resist "Arrrrrrr, you will regret not list my country". It's so adorably misspelled.

I find it interesting that the poll only contains countries from 2 continents. (If you don't count the part of Russia in Asia.)
  • edited June 2009
Well, I thought the most players come North America and Europe, though there are definitely some from other continents.

    I didn't know that!

And I was just about to say how ignorant some people are...

    UK here too btw.
