I think the worst upon reflection, is, Special edition Guybrush. He just looks so... weird. It's the OTT hairstyle. The best is probably Tales, but as Curse is my favourite i've played (have yet to play MI/MI2/TMI) i'm leaning more towards him. Afterall, he's tall, lanky, blonde and clumsy, just like me!
mi2 guybrush is definitely the best, he is the most piraty one. the tales guybrush is pretty close to this, so this would be my second choice.
the special edition guybrush has this totally strange hairstyle, so last place.
i didn't liked the curse and escape guybrushs either, because they made him look younger again, like in the first game.
btw, why didn't we choose the best looking elaine`?...'cause the new version are quite attractive. she looks pretty amazing in that special edition ending scene and the telltale interpretation is quite charming as well.:D
Best is definitely 2, and once again I didn't like how they went back to the "younger" look for 3, that always stuck out to me, and is probably the one aspect of the game I didn't like. I also love the new Guybrush from Tales a lot, mainly for being so reminisent of the MI2 one. The "douchebag" beard definitely suits him a lot
And my least favourite is easily the Special Edition version. I loved the new backgrounds and everything, but the character designs just look very off.
I loved how stylized Curse Guybrush looked. Tales Guybrush would probably be my favourite if he didn't look so old (he's supposed to be young and naive :P). I really like Special Edition Guybrush, except for his hair and eyes, which are unfortunately the most noticeable parts
I know this is going to sound like I'm just trying to go against the grain here but I honestly like EMI Guybrush the most and like MI2 Guybrush the least. The reason being I kinda like having Guybrush to be charming, boyish and handsome but still trying to be piratey. I think EMI Guybrush is the perfect balance of all things. I dislike MI2 Guybrush because they made him to rugged and took it too far with him trying to be macho. CMI Guybrush is too tall and weird looking although he is interesting looking, just not for Guybrush. Classic SMI Guybrush was too plain looking and in SE I like that he looked young but a few details should have been tweaked (the infamous hair, and skin colour). Tales Guybrush is a close second favorite but I really don't like the facial hair and his face and nose are too long and narrow, like a witch.
I just noticed the stupid earring they slapped on SOMI:SE Guybrush. What the heck! He wasn't cool enough at that point to sport an earring! Just one more strike against the art team for the SE...
This is of course just subjective opinion...but I don't understand this overwhelming love for MI:2 Guybursh. I mean, it's not a horrible design or anything. It's just...generic. It's a dude with brownish-reddish hair and a bear. Not knocking Purcell's original artwork. It's good. And I couldn't do anything getting anywhere remotely close to a fraction as good. But it doesn't have a strong sense of unique style. It's just standard realism.
Also, given how Guybrush is kind of young and naive, the more mature look doesn't seem to fit as well...in my opinion.
For me, CMI, EMI (in game, but not in cut-scenes), and TMI are all in the running for my favorite.
I actually voted Tales for best. The screenies dont really do justice to the facial animation in the game. The look fits perfectly with the older "matured" Threepwood with a cocky dialog and attitude to match. Telltale has been brave enough to take the character forward. Good stuff.
SoMI:SE is by far the worst. I really like EMI Guybrush, so it's a bit disheartening to see so many people hate him. I have a feeling people are voting against the game rather than the design though. Conversely, I don't like MI2 Guybrush's design very much so I'm surprised to see it's so popular. Another case of voting for the game over the design perhaps?
Best: Monkey Island 1
Worst: Monkey Island 1 Remake
Escape from Monkey Island gets a reprieve because the design itself (as in the 2D concept art) was quite good and I liked the look. The blocky in-game graphics drag it down, but that's more the fault of the technology of the day.
For the record the actual in game sprite of Guybrush in SoMI:SE is nowhere near as ridiculous as the cover art and cut scenes. It's actually not bad I think, play it before you jump to conclusions.
And I can't understand how anyone could dislike the look of Curse of Monkey Island, one of my favs, although I'll admit his nose is a little silly but everything else is solid.
personality wise: tie between 1 and 3. 5 or ToMI is looking good so far.
look: Hmmm, I'd honestly have to say ToMI. Wasn't sure about the goatee at first but he is aging after all, even though I never liked his look in LR, too rugged for Guybrush... Wasn't buyin' it. Also his look in SoMI is perfect for his personality, but I think that game is perfect in every way soo I'm a bit biased heh.
I'll just say EfMI & I have a dark past.... >.> stooopid monkey combat >.<

Personally I would have preferred the same engine from Curse over the one in Escape but that's just me... A part of me even wished the new MI would stay away from 3d, but TTG did great and I couldn't be happier so far.
A lot of you voting for MI2 as best Guybrush are forgetting something: He's not supposed to be a bad azz pirate. He's Guybrush Threepwood, mighty pirate, but not that mighty.....

I agree
I think alot of people see what they want to see. It's easy to imagine things from a few pixels on a sprite. But if you look at the script, he really is just the same guybrush as in secret, just a few years older and with that attempt on a beard going on.. nobody really takes him seriously anyways. but I still like him
I wish everyone would stop bashing the new look of Guybrush in SOMI:SE, its not that bad and if everyone keeps on saying the that Guybrush looks crap, they wont bother making any more Special Editions.
It's called criticism... We let them know we don't like his look and they'll do it differently for the next one. Unless they have no listening skills, which I doubt.
I think Curse Guybrush was the best. EMI guybrush (while awesome) can't compare to the gangly limbed lovable CMI mighty pirate. TOMI guybrush just looks like they mashed MI2, CMI, EMI together. Still, that's awesome.

Best: Curse.
Worst: Special Edition (or the "Special Guybrush", as I like to call him)
Worst, for my taste at least, is the one from EMI.
"hmmm...."

EMI just was bad
EMI Guybrush was weird - maybe the spaced-out look? I just didn't like him much.
SMI:SE Guybrush - well...
Voted worst for EMI in the end. At least SMI:SE still had the classic Guybrush character.
And best was most definitely Revenge! He looks great in the box art and even though he's only pixels in the game - he still has a great attitude

I voted for SoMI Guybrush.

Voodoo lady's room looks especially spiffy.
