Vaughn doesn't exactly seem like a master of deception. I doubt his angry outburst at Vasquez was fake. Why would it even be necessary for him to say all that if he was truly just lying to cover Rhys?
I'm not saying he isn't materialistic and isn't capable of betrayal, I'm just saying he could have just been saying what he said and not mea… morent anything by it. I don't think he has any reason to trust Vasquez anyways, I doubt he ever genuinely sided his murderous boss over one of his oldest friends.
