Cool! Umm, I'm new to this whole "digital-thing". Once your money is taken away from your bank account (bye-bye little moneeeey), you can start downloading? Can you download it on another computer? How does this work?

It all depends on the site. Telltale does a simple pay+download+activate (which you should already know) Steam does this stupid thing when you need to run Steam and GOG is DRM-free so you can install the game as much as you like.

All 3 of the aforementioned services are instant after paying. And Steam is stupid. We all hate Steam.

Can't see a GOG release. Probably Steam.

    It'll be OK though.

Hmm, I'd be cautious of what you see on game sites like that without reading a news story or press release. They tend to just slap on estimated dates that aren't official. Just a warning incase hopes are raised only to be let down... I do hope it is July 15th though.

hopefully it will just be downloadable directly off the lucasarts website - i really cant be bothered with steam

Yeah, i saw another release date on GameSpy, and it said September 30.

Which is exactly why I included a "?" in the thread title. Waiting for an official confirmation...

so far with a majority of pc digital licenses expect to get only 3 PC installs for your game. Take a look at the game Spore you can only install that game on 3 PCs in its entire life without buying another copy. All retailers are different. Steam lets you install it on 100 pc's but only one can use the game at a time, and you must be logged in online to play. Then there is Windows Live...
    oh whats GOG ?

Im less familiar with Windows Live I am playing Fallout 3. You must sign in to your xbox/windows live account. To access your saved games in win live you must be loged into it like xbox live. Long confusing story short.
If you dont have your computer hooked to the internet all the time you cant access your saved games, even in a single player game. Mess:confused:
someone help explain Windows Live. plz
Just looked at GOG it has well, good OLD games. I think those type of games GOG are easily pirated, copied if the disc is in hand.

You can set Steam to an offline mode and play not being connected to the internet and on multiple computers at the same time...

Uhmm, I play Fallout 3 from my Steam account all the time and I don't need to be connected to the internet to access my saved games. Save files are stored on your hard-drive.

In the gamespot e3 interview they said that they wanted it to be released around the time of Tales, so this date sounds real.

The official site says Summer 09 so this guess is obviously wrong (I'm not trying to suggest you believed the date). I would assume 1up has just taken a guess at the mid-point of Summer 09 and is also uninformed. I could be wrong about 1up though, so we will have to wait and see.

1up says the Xbox version is coming the same day. PERFECT

If it's on Steam only, I'll probably pay for it and then grab a pirated copy (Steam-free).
  • edited July 2009
Wowwww, that are great news! :-)

I heard they were officialy announcing the release date on Friday (3rd July) during the next playthrough of the game on justin.tv
  • edited July 2009
I won't believe till I hear it from LucasArts.

I probably won't buy SMI: SE immediately after release, but wait for a while to see if they release it in other places besides Steam and if they will bring retail DVD version at some point or another.

Otherwise I could be more impatient, but since I will have TOMI and few other adventure games to play, I have enough patience to wait.

What's with all this hate for steam? Personally, i love steam.
  • edited July 2009
I loved Steam and Valve in general until they decided to change their pricing policy and get on the wagon of 1US$=1€ in order not to "confuse" the customer.
  • edited July 2009
It's not on their MI:SE website under buy now, probably not real.
  • edited July 2009
I'll be perfectly content if Telltale puts the game up on their store to purchase for direct download and then later they send me the DVD (or just send me the DVD. I can wait.) ala their season sets. But I'm not messing with Steam. Never have in the past, and I never intend to.
  • edited July 2009
Yeah, I don't see that happening. I see Steam.

Again I don't know how well that's going to play out considering it's an adventure game and not a FPS...I hope it sells well enough we get MI2:SE at least. To be honest everything other than the Last Crusade, Zak, and Maniac Mansion have held up pretty well. It's just hard to hook new people onto games without voice overs in my experience which is why I've never started anyone on playing MI1. It's not the graphics, just the lack of VO.

Hey, Sam & Max Seasons 1 and 2 were originally Steam-exclusives, but they both made their way to direct download off the Telltale store eventually.

It would be the only non-Telltale game in the store now. I guess LA could pay for bandwidth and it'd tie-in with their sales for ToMI, but I saw Emily post something a bit ago saying her understanding was that it'd come to Steam. There's also the worry with brand confusion - who made what.

Actually, I don't see anything impossible about what you're saying - just a straight to TT release.

Hm. It would suck to buy the Steam version though and have to rebuy it to get the non-Steamed edition. Which I would do.

I think you may be confusing Tales of Monkey Island, a Telltale game, with the Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition, which is a remake of the original LucasArts game.

This thread is about the release date of the remake of Secret by LucasArts. It's all LucasArts, Telltale has nothing to do with it.

Yeah, Games for Windows Live seems really inconsistant, they seem to do have the whole thing set up differently for every single game they release. I actually got Halo 2 PC not to long ago, and I kept getting disconnected from Live. Unfortunately, if I wanted to get achievements, my offline save had to be at the same point as the one and live (which you can't download), meaning I had to restart each level quite a few times... don't think I'll be playing through that game on legendary.

Steam seems fine to me, I don't get all of the hatred towards it. Who isn't online all the time anyway? Plus, there is an offline mode, which I've only used twice so I could play Left 4 Dead and UT3 over LAN, without having to buy it twice. I really like being able to download a game onto all of my computers without having to worry about install limits. I think people are just afraid of the Steam servers shutting down eventually or something, which doesn't really make sense, since there really isn't anybody in the same league as them, profits-wise.

I wasn't confusing the two, but it's widely circulated on the internet right now (like say...Destructoid) that Telltalegames are the ones working on this Secret of Monkey Island remake. So that's why I thought they would be the ones hosting this.

And yes, I was confusing Steam with Gametap earlier.

I don't like download-only. I like having hard copies of my games, and that's what I think makes Telltalegames' episodic series work for me: at first, I get all the episodes online direct-to-download only as they come out. But when all the episodes are out, I get a disc that has all the games on it so I don't need my digital copies anymore and I can actually say I own those games. I don't trust Steam.

Well, someone is confusing the two then, because that's wrong.

    From Telltale's MI FAQ:
I heard something about a remake of The Secret of Monkey Island®. Is that the same as your game?

You're thinking of The Secret of Monkey Island®: Special Edition, which is the game our friends at LucasArts will be releasing this Summer. This is the faithfully re-imagined version of the original The Secret of Monkey Island, presented in all new HD detail. You can find more details about The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition here.

I too like the idea I will have the game preserved separately onto my PC until the end of time but I can live with Steam if it's the dealbreaker or maker for MI:SE.

I believe that the problem is that it keeps the save games in a different folder depending on whether or not you're signed in to GfWL.

The news will supposedly be about old games in general and not a particular IP. That rules out an announcement about MI:SE unless they announce details about it at the same time.

I just spotted this on Telltale's Twitter feed: http://twitter.com/telltalegames/status/2425309497
Nah, not bundled. Lucasarts' Special Edition of Secret of Monkey Island comes out one week after Episode 1 of Tales of MI.

Also, given I don't have a clue what you're referring to by "MiseTings Estel", I guess not :)
