Is money just for cool items to change the look of the game?

I keep buying the most expensive thing, but it seems they don't really do anything. I'm tempted to go back to episode 1 and 2 and replay them without buying anything since they don't do anything just so I can get all the outfits for everyone. I spent all my money on the most expensive mask and the scooter special so I could only buy like 3 items in the quick change station. Plus, I need that loader bot tux in my life.

    Seems like it so far, although we might eventually have the choice of using cash for something important later on. Although the new outfits might be referenced since the others get a little they will remember that notification.
