Why no mention of a STEAM release?
I would have preferred to have got this on STEAM although when people asked on here about when/if it would happen, nothing was said.
Owing to that, I pre-ordered although the game was then released on STEAM at the same time as the TTG release.
Any chances of you allowing us to add our serial numbers into STEAM?

This would have involved planning so why could they not tell us so we could choose where to buy the game from?
Err considering the replys on another thread and the treatment of us from the UK during the release of this game and a massive lack of contact, I beg to differ.
Btw I did ask in a support request when it would be released on steam, that question was "forgot" about.
But any bonuses that Telltale gives, and the DVD at the end of the season, will always sell me on buying straight from the source.
The game was late by a couple of hours, and was released half an hour into the 8th for us here in the UK. Sure, I was slightly peeved, but Steam didn't, and wont, have the game up before Telltale.
This will no doubt be the first and last Telltale game I will buy directly from them. I probably won't get the DVD anyway.
Oh and you can be sure it won't be possible to activate the game on steam, Telltale would have to pay Valve for that option.
Yes, that was in fact my point. Not a word on steam to maximise profits.
emily from telltale games replied this to me:
"I don’t know what the plans are for Tales of Monkey Island on Steam. Even if the game does show up on Steam, though, the pre-order bonuses and the Collector’s DVD at the end of the season are only available to customers who buy the games from Telltalegames.com, so if those are important to you, I suggest placing a pre-order with Telltale."
i thought they not gonna sell it on steam, so i preordered here, now its on steam but i cant activate it there, im really frustated!!!
Sure you can rage all you want about TTG "not telling you", but I think its Steam that should highlight upcoming releases. Steam is ok platform, but I dont really care whetever I start monkey island from my desktop or steam, escpesially in this case, where the overall time spent playing particular episode is somewhat short.
1.) Ask for a refund from Telltale and then re-buy it on Steam
2.) Use the handy, dandy, "Add a non-Steam game to My Games list..." feature.
Other than weird individual psychological reasons, what would action #2 not achieve that buying on Steam would?
good idea, i will ask a refund, i will post here to say if it worked or not, i hope i get my money back
I don't think buying on Steam is the best option, for me it isn't even an option. But if they were planning on releasing it there, someone should have said something.
To play devil's advocate here, a lot of people like the Steam activation system. They want the game tied to their account across several PCs and through infinite re-installs over the entirety of Steam's lifespan(or at least as long as Steam has those nicely loose activation rules). Whereas the "Add non-Steam game" option, while retaining most of the features of Steam, does pretty much just copy the game's shortcut into the My Games list.
You, sir, are a child.
And you clearly didn't understand the email. She said she didn't know what the plans were but that you won't get the preorder bonuses by buying through Steam (which is true) if that in fact was the case. She never said they wouldn't sell it on Steam. You still don't get the bonuses that you get by buying through the TTG store.
Well, I think the Devil should understand that both systems share many of the same advantages!
I can understand the launcher that seems to be giving Mac users problems, but you can't expect that to be supported on a native PC release, even if it does work on a Mac via whatever virtual means.
As for the shortcut...you don't lose any functionality as I understand it. You've still got the Steam overlay, no? It's not like Telltale's games support any Source engine features that you'd get on Steam that you wouldn't through the Telltale downloads.
I WROTE IN MY EMAIL THAT I DONT WANT THE BONUSES ... the best about the bonus is the free game, but i already own all telltale games! i bought each telltale game from steam, and wanted to add monkey island to my games collection on steam, because i like it to have all my games on one single account.
I said to her that i would prefer to buy it from steam, thats why i asked her if they had planned to sell it on steam, she replied that they did not have such plans, there was also no comming soon announcement on steam, all i wanted was to be able to play it on the release day, i waited until july 6, still nothing on steam, thats why i bought it from telltale shop, few hours later i see they sell it on steam
IM SURE SHE DID UNDERSTAND MY EMAIL VERY WELL, i got fooled really bad, its sad they did what they did just to earn few more dollars, im an honest customer i buy games and dont use emule to downloaded cracked versions, the only thing i asked was to be able to buy on steam, they made my think they would not sell it through steam, now its too late, im really angry.
Bloody hell, what did you do before Steam was released? You make it sound like it's the end of the world if you have to play a game that doesn't sit in your "My Games" list.
To most, this stinks of TTG deliberately hiding the fact they were selling the game elsewhere to increase their own profits, ignoring the fact of what their customers would prefer.
Either there is a serious lack of communication among TTG staff and nobody knows what anyone else is doing (The STEAM thing wouldn't have happened overnight what with contractual details etc) or they delibrately witheld the information for their own cause.
Obviously, I take this all back if they are planning to allow serials to be activated on STEAM?
me too, thats all i ask, please allow us to activate the game on steam
2. The Telltale bonus is a free episode of your choice. Steam's is the Wallace & Gromit one.
3. Fuck Steam.
4. Grow up
End.
what i dont undertsand is why do you want me not to be able to buy my games on steam, why do you post and repost your opinion all the time? why do you think i should not buy my games there? whats bothers you so bad when i say i would prefer having all my games on a single account, cant you just leave me with my opinion? im not gonna change my opinion even if you add hundred posts to mine
Grow up.
Post reported for trolling, plus the fact you appear to know very little about the subject matter.
I didn't say you shouldn't be able to buy your games in steam, what I'm saying is now you have bought a game not on Steam, it's not the end of the world, or Telltales fault, you have to play it without Steam.
You knew when you bought it you wouldn't be using Steam to run it, the fact that a Steam version was released doesn't give Telltale an obligation to use their money to pay Valve so their serials can work in Steam and you can have you games neat and tidy in one account. They have not done it for any other series so far, i'd be very suprised if they changed it now. So just enjoy the game and stop worrying where your launching it from.
Oh, I'm shakin', I'm shakin'...
But seriously, you seem to have a reasonable head on your shoulders. It's the other people that are sounding like crybabies.
Still I cannot understand why anyone would want to order from Steam.
Unlimited downloads
No additional DRM (Mostly)
No serial numbers to worry about
One login gives you all your games on ANY computer.
I have STEAM installed at home on 2 computers and it allows me to play games on both systems without the need to remember serial numbers or worry about DRM.
I like STEAM, it suits me, everyone to their own I guess.
There is a large community of people who like to bash STEAM when infact, they have little recent experience of it.
The main problem is the dinosaurs holding onto their precious dvd's and shilling anything which takes them outside their comfort zone, regardless of the benefits another medium brings.
Nothing I can't do with the setup that Telltale have.
The point isn't Steam or the benefits of Steam. The point is that these people would have preferred it on Steam. Regardless of whether or not that is a good decision, it's a valid one, and they were more or less led to believe that it wasn't going to be released on Steam...at least not on the same day.
The issue here is one of communication, which is troubling considering that Telltale has in the past been quite amicable in the department of communication between themselves and the fanbase.
That is my point, I can do this for ALL my games, not just the Telltale ones:
http://steamcommunity.com/id/gimpymoo/games
1. open up Steam
2. click on the My Games tab
3. click on "Add Non-Steam Game..."
4. Click any and all games that appears in the window in the populated list that pops up
5. ???
6. PROFIT!!!
and as corruptbiggins said: you can access your telltale games from any computer and download them as many times as you want, only you have to use your internet browser instead the Steam Program. (like that's really any different)
