We do have it down to a science. Think "Large Hadron Collider." Levity aside - rest assured we were working like crazy to get this out on time. Many of us were working on the 4th of July weekend, just to bring you the Monkey Island goodness. Sorry we couldn't get it out in the morning, but the world is not a perfect place.
It's so incredibly lame that this thread has become so derailed that even TTG think we're upset because the game was slightly delayed.
Even the staff can't be bothered to read our posts correctly *sob*
A simple "Guys, looks like the game will be released this evening PST" would have solved everything.
Which would have been great if we knew exactly when it was going to be posted. We had every intention of releasing the game yesterday morning, but things came up that made that not possible. Once that happened all we knew was that it would be posted "as soon as possible." Our crystal ball is about as effective as the voodoo lady's, so any time we could have told everyone would have been a pure guess. We did have a blog post apologizing for the delay, and we would have liked to do more but unfortunately we were spending all of our time trying to get the game up!
These things happen and the delay was not really that long. Worth the wait in my opinion. The first episode alone surpasses MI4, which was all I wanted as I wasnt expecting it to surpass the others
Oh and the person saying about expecting an american company to operate on new zealand time, no we expect a company that trades internationally, to operate on an international basis, not just an american basis.
Oh I'm sorry what time does the New York Stock exchange operate, that's right from 9 to 4. Standard working hours in New York city. Operating on an International basis doesn't mean bending the laws of space and time to achieve the impossible.
American company operates on American time. They released on the 7th. Really stop complaining, you sound pathetic.
I demand that Telltale treats me like a king!
Preferably Louis 12th, or Louis 13th or...
Lol, the people who complain here are really making me laugh, saying that they don't know Telltale is American-based etc... What did you think, that this was a Russian product??
Calm down, learn from the experience not to waste a day in front of your computer again. Mind you, some of the Sam and Max games were even released EARLY, maybe to avoid just such a fuss as this.
Telltale, next time, just tell them the games comes out a week later, and they will be happy when it actually comes earlier than expected. Bad mouthing avoided.
BTW, did you notice that most of the people complaining were "Newbies" who joined here only in June 2009 or so? Us Telltale-oldtimers take a much more relaxed position to publication dates here...
Man alive, some of you people are absolutely and unbelievably selfish and immature. I'm absolutely disgusted at the level of negativity and attitude towards a group that brought a brand new Monkey Island a few hours later than they said they'd try to release it by.
You guys have issues. And need counseling. And lives.
Too many pirates got online yesterday and clogged up all the tubes. The series of tubes that is the internet. When the TTG team woke up and checked the site they saw a wall of user names and thought "Great, now we have to search for the last tube available to upload this game." Luckily, after a few hours of searching, they found the only tube left at the bottom. Unknowingly, they tried to upload the game into a tube that was way too small for it (a simple mathematical error, don't worry guys, I understand). The tube then exploded due to the massive pressure of the Monkey Island awesomeness, causing the other tubes that were contained by faithful Telltale forum-goers to shatter and become disconnected (hence the inability to look at the forums). After reconnecting all the tubes, using a lot of glue along with scotch and duct tape, the guys finally got the site back up. However, they decided to keep the forums down to ensure that enough tubes would be available to upload the game. Shortly after, Tales of Monkey Island: Launch of the Screaming Narwhal was born. The end.
Don't worry guys, I get you...these other people might not, but I do.
Hey guys -- Sorry that there was confusion for you and that we didn't make it clearer that it was a Pacific time-related launch. I had hoped that was communicated cleanly but as this thread shows there were many people who were confused. I hope it goes without saying that we always work to improve on everything we do and we'll make sure its cleaner next time.
As we posted about in the blog, the game was intended to come out about six hours earlier than it did and we ran into technical difficulties. We're not going to do midnight GMT launches for Monkey episodes or even midnight PST launches, because no matter how much you test a release like this, the chances are high that once you put it up on a live site, and once you start releasing it to thousands and thousands of people, you will discover that some aspect doesn't work as perfectly as you thought it would and you have to do some clean-up. Doing that when you're awake and have an office full of programmers is infinitely easier than doing that when you're dead tired at 2 in the morning in a near empty office. Hopefully those practical (and very realistic, I think) considerations make sense, and hopefully we can communicate that better to you guys in the future.

You asked for an explanation and an apology and I gave you both.

I think he's waiting for the in-person apology from Jake that was promised to him by me. Please have Jake PM him in order to set this up. Thanks.

With that said I think this thread is done!
