i know, i have had a constant smile on my face for the past two days, listening to "Tony Sopranos" get mad over this. It just blows my mind. Want to hear something funny? People in California held a candlelight vigil for Cecil the lion. L O L.
I cannot get along with people who hunt for sport.
That is ok, I hunt for fun, not sport.
ling the lion just so he could feel … morelike a big strong man with a big strong gun wasn't right.
That isn't why he killed the lion. He killed the lion because he could. He bought the rights to kill this lion from the african government. If anyone should be held accountable it is them, not the dentist.
Yes, I don't really care much about the lives of grasscutter ants. If there were only a few ten thousand left, though, I might think twice about spraying raid on a colony.
Ironic how people don't care when China has a dog-eating festival.
But when a lion dies, everyone loses their minds.
It doesn't matt… moreer that a lion's population is smaller than a domestic dog's population.
Because it only shows that we only care when it's nearly gone.
The dentist didn't break any laws, and people are villainizing a guy for something any hunter would do. His life is pretty much ruined in Murica until something else happens, then we can all focus on that. So until then, he is in the dog house unfortunately. He should hang out in China till this whole mess blows over, and people stop caring.
Yes, but I could chop off my arm. I don't because it isn't desirable for me. The dentist desired to kill the lion, why? Look at the previous post.
I don't see why both can't be held responsible.

illing one lion is the equivalent of killing four hundred thousand people, so yeah it is kind of a big deal.
I didn't KNOW. I DIDN"… moreT KNOW!!!!!!!! LOL.. This is so funny, to me. I don't care about a lion.
we eat to survive and meat is convenient, and cows and chicken are not endangered animals.
Kind of hypocritical to say we eat these animals for food because its ok. Then moan when someone shoots some animal.
Didn't he buy the rights to shoot this lion, so he paid the government or whatever 50,000 to kill this animal, now after they taken the money they're trying to say, we didn't sell Cecil's life. What a horrible person, we should villainize the dentist.
I haven't done much research on the incident, but I'm not talking about holding him responsible lawfully (though through the grape vine I've heard that Zimbabwe is requesting the dentists extradition, in which case he would most definitely not have been in the right in accordance with Zimbabwe law). I'm talking about "villainizing" him, as you so nicely put it, because he deserves the criticism. Any hunter would do it? Thats incorrect. And any hunter who would is wrong. His life is ruined in Murica? So sad. If you can't handle the criticisms that come with doing what you do, then don't fucking do it.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA wow. I'd like to see them go ham over....oh lets see. AN ACTUAL ISSUE for once hmm??
Oh no no no no that's too much to ask!!!!! #Pray4Lions #LionLivesMatter. Lets all sing kumbaya and scratch the name Cecil on our arms with a knife in the name of lion kind.
i know, i have had a constant smile on my face for the past two days, listening to "Tony Sopranos" get mad over this. It just blows my mind. Want to hear something funny? People in California held a candlelight vigil for Cecil the lion. L O L.
People DID try to stop it, but it was too late. Did you not see the petition to ban the festival in China? People bought out the dogs to rescue them. Just because the festival wasn't cancelled doesn't mean people cared any less.
People went crazy over a dog eating festival? I mean if they were from PETA I'd understand, but they act like people don't eat thousands of cows, pigs, chickens and multitudes of other animals everyday.

These animals have been here way before humans have ever existed. We just came in and took over the Earth as if we owned it. The ocean is home to many, many creatures, not us. And we go out there, fish and kill these sea creatures, for what? To sell them for money? I get that we eat them, and they're healthy too, but still. Imagine some random, huge creature that you can't defend yourself against entering your home at any given moment and killing you for no reason. That's what it feels like for these animals.
This reminds me of when people say that the ocean is "shark-infested water".
Um... no, not really? News flash, the ocean is their HOME. I… moref anything the water is human-infested. We kill bugs when they're in our home, don't we? We're just bugs in their home.
We as humans think we are entitled to everything, even the ocean. Even when it proves to be dangerous to us.
guess I can understand why you may think so because it's only one animal and everyone is freaking out,
A carnivore animal, that eats… more other animal was killed.... By a Dentist. I guess no one hunts on these boards, other than me.
I think its funny, how everyone is freaking out about this lion. What about the dog video of dogs getting turned into belts, in China. No one freaked out about that.
Not all dogs are pets, and that logic doesn't really make sense either. I can get a chicken and call it my pet, would that make me look any less dumb when I go crazy over people eating chicken? No, it wouldn't.
I don't think they're being killed so mercifully. Not to mention that they're pretty much abused and enclosed in cubicles until the "merciful" death they did nothing to deserve.
most animals produce low quality meat if the animal is in terror (adrenaline i think), you can buy meat that specifically comes from farms where animals have certain quality of life standards.
I don't think they're being killed so mercifully. Not to mention that they're pretty much abused and enclosed in cubicles until the "mercifu… morel" death they did nothing to deserve.
Also I don't think we're comparing these to decide who suffers more, I think that Flog just tried to say that it's weird how we only care about the death of animals who aren't a part of our diet. We're not used to recognizing that what people serve to our tables used to walk and feel and live. We kinda just... eat it... even if there are alternatives. We're horrible.
This online witchhunt is going over the top.
The guy will face consequences for hunting an endangered animal especially in such a cruel way but some of the reactions to this are insane
I find the manner in which he was killed to be completely sick. This guy drew a lion who was beloved nationally out of his home and shot him, but didn't give him the mercy of an instant kill. He was kept alive for 40 hours, suffering, and then was killed for no reason at all. If you hunt for food, for a living it's one thing, but if you hunt for the pleasure of killing a living being and giving it pain then I have absolutely no respect for you at all.
I hold no respect for those who kill when they don't NEED to, but I also know little about this story, so I'm just going to move on before I find something that pisses me off.
The $50,000 was not for that particular lion. He had to illegally lure this lion out of protected land before he shot it (which was an illegal act, regardless of the validity of his permit). This particular lion was friendly to humans, so there was absolutely no sport involved in the hunt.
The reason why we protect endangered species is because the consequences of the death of an entire species can have unforeseen repercussions on the ecosystem. We learned this when we killed all of a particular type of mosquito that were swarming around a body of water and unwittingly caused the death of everything around it that depended on them (including fish, frogs, plant life, other insects, etc). Human beings are just like any other living thing on this planet. We're dependent on the life of other living things. If we don't slow down the mass extinction that's going on right now, we could eventually be looking at extinction ourselves several generations from now.

There are at least 525,000,000 dogs in the world. There are roughly 30,000 lions left in the wilds of Africa. Now, I know the numbers are naturally different because dogs are usually specifically bread to be pets, while lions obviously aren't, but do you not see the difference here?
Also, many people were freaking out about the dogs thing in China. Your argument is a twice null.

They should burn his office down along with his home. That lion killed for food while fooish men kill for sport . Fucking bastards wont stop until there are no lions left.
If they cared about the dogs, then they would permanently stop the festival.
People were outraged because dogs are commonly kept as pets. Animals that we eat can be called as pets, so maybe I should create a petition to stop people from eating cows and chickens then?
People DID try to stop it, but it was too late. Did you not see the petition to ban the festival in China? People bought out the dogs to rescue them. Just because the festival wasn't cancelled doesn't mean people cared any less.

Holy shit you are dense. Yulin made lots of coverage and they're in the direction of banning it, by next year it'll probably be banned. I can't stand this shit where people go, "Oh, you care about about a dead lion but not thousands of dead dogs?" I do care! And so do others. And yeah one dead lion does matter, because they are endangered and every lion counts. I hate that people like you act all high and mighty because you compare two different things and shame people for caring.

The hunter is a pussy.. when people fail at life they usually turn to killing animals.. its the first signs of serial killers too.. Go hunt if you need to eat or whatever but if you hunt endangered species for fun you should hang yourself.

Ban me.
I do not "shame" people for caring, I'm just mad for the fact that no immediate major action was done after the festival was reported.
Every lion counts
so the animals we eat do not matter? That's racist on their part.

I think it's idiotic. Drawing the animal out of the park to shoot it? There are what, less than 30,000 (?) lions left in the wilds of Africa… more and you shot one? Congrats, fucking imbicile. What would have made a good story is if they had lured Cecil out and then he fucking ate them.

Shamu Noooooo, I love you Shamu...
Am i like the only hunter on these forums.

Are you serious? People went crazy about the dog eating festival.
We eat meat to eat, not for trophy. Humans are still part of the food web. I don't get why that's so hard to understand.

I am a hunter.
Crossbow or rifle?
Neither, but I do like the attempted "no true Scotsman".

Goddammit, InGen.
I agree weedbastard!

Exactly. I think the death of one lion is equivalent to about 200,000 humans or something like that.
By the way, hello Viva, it's been a while.

Two things:
The term I was looking for is "speciesism".
And even when the animals we eat are bred for human consumption, they're still in the animalia kingdom—alongside lions.
Tbh, lions can be eaten—pretty much all animals can be eaten.

It's really sad too since he had 9 cubs, luckily, his brother is caring for them, sometime lions kill the cubs of the former Pride Leader.
