The anagram game

Here's how it works. I'll start the game with a single letter. Then someone adds a letter to make it a word. Then each next post adds a letter and rearranges them into a new word, getting something along the following lines:

e
me
men
mean
named
demean
demeans
meanders
...

Let's see how far we can get. Use names if you must or if it's cool/funny, but no intentional misspellings, abbreviations or internet lingo. Also, no going twice in a row.
If things get long enough we may get into -grammatically correct- sentences and -somewhat sense-making- short stories (in which case letters are case-insensitive and punctuation is free), though with that many letters it's probably better to start over with a new one.

To get things started, the first letter is:

a

(PS: I believe there's a ten letter minimum, so you may want to add a parenthesized comment like this.)
