I don't think giving an exact ETA on when people are banned is a good idea, as we do sometimes increase ban times when people create new accounts to evade bans (and give even more ban time to people that use that ban evasion to come in and insult people), so that could potentially open up a whole new can of worms if someone saw a ban time increase, since we almost always don't disclose ban reasons. But a permanently banned badge vs. a temporarily banned badge is a good idea. I'll bring that up to the web team.
Would the bans cause as much discontent if regular users could see how long they lasted? Instead of just "Banned", say "Banned until July 1… more3" or "Banned for another 2 days and 14 hours" or "Banned forever." Yes, I know even the old forums didn't do that, but given that we're also not supposed to discuss individual banning cases, it might be just enough information to calm some folks down.
