Was the **** endings lackluster on purpose?
I picked Jane, and I feel I have fairly logical reasons for it, but the endings for Kenny are so SO SOOO much better, now take note here, I don't mean in terms of happiness, I mean in terms of just content, theres far more punch to the Kenny endings than Jane endings.

I feel the writers favoured Kenny too much particularly this episode, there should have been some darker hints in his endings as well. Because deny it all you want hes gonna lose it sooner or later
Exactly, the Kenny ending felt far happier than it really is, going with Kenny is basically inviting hell for everyone AJ included.
The writers are in love with Kenny. That's it.
They gave him an almost literal 'walk into sunset' ending. In the walking dead. It was stupid.
lol u mad ?
If I recall correctly, the sun wasn't setting.
Besides, if you don't like that ending, you can always just put a bullet in Kenny.
I agree. The Welllington ending is amazing. I got the alone ending which may be the worst.
I'm glad I got that walking off with Kenny ending... It might be the last time Clem will be truly happy.. Because we all know it will just go downhill from Season 3 and probably get even shittier than it was in Season 2.
Did you see the newest Playing Dead interview where they talked about the finale? They said they read the forums yet go off on how they knew "so many people loved Kenny" and they wanted to see if people could ever actually leave/kill him. How could they not know that there are very mixed opinions on Kenny? It's not like everyone adores Kenny.
Hallelujah
You kinda missed the whole point.
We don't know if Wellington is a nice place...
(I'm still worried for Clementines going into that situation alone)
I do get what you mean, though. I liked the Jane ending, though, even if it felt like a restart button that brought us back to the beginning of the season. You know, Clem and an experienced survivor alone. I'm really curious if they plan on going somewhere with that storyline.
Far more punch as you said, but Janes ending is more meaningful I think. The story closes with having to trust humanity again which after everything that has happened in 2 season you get yet another "final" choice.
People who dont like things will post it on the forums. It's far more easy to post something you dont like than something you are happy about. Of course they knew that people was hated and loved but they did not really knew how much of the communiyt actually liked or did not like him. The choices in this episode gave them the answer.
What, that Kenny should have been the one who drowned in the lake? Or received some other randomly pointless death two episodes earlier, because "that's how the world of TWD works?"
Plot armor is one thing. Good storytelling is another. THE WALKING DEAD, for all its brutality, isn't GAME OF THRONES, where a beloved character can be decapitated in the blink of an eye just for the sake of shocking the viewer/reader. Giving Kenny an abrupt death in season 2 would have been completely pointless. The way Telltale allowed the player to choose the outcome of Kenny's story (as well as Clem's) simply makes sense from a narrative's perspective, in addition to gameplay.
Yet that's the same reasoning for why Nick was killed off-screen, or why Sarah dies an illogical death which is inexplicably meant to justify a character's claim that she was doomed anyway. As for the option to kill Kenny, it's already been discussed that no matter what you do the game struggles so hard to make you forgive him that it even contradicts his prior characterization - like him suddenly calming down when Clem shoots him even if he still has no reason to think he did anything wrong.
They knew from Season 1 in 2012 that Kenny was a polarizing character, and even then they somehow thought it was a good idea to retcon his death so that he'd appear in a sequel.
Yeah the Jane endings were the least satisfying. The Clem alone and Kenny endings are to me the more fitting conclusions to season 2.
I think it's because players had more time with Kenny than with Jane. He's been there since season 1 and Jane was only with the player for 2 episodes. So I think it's great for those who did stick with Kenny to have something extra. But with Jane I think it was reward enough knowing that the story was good enough to actually persuade some away from Kenny.
A matter of opinion. The 'lonely Clem' ending, despite me personally preferring it to Clem being stuck with either insane adult, seems abrupt and puts Clem in the greatest amount of danger. Do you honestly expect the baby to not freak out once she's in the middle of the horde?
I still think they should have left him in Season 1.
I thought the Jane endings were interesting. If you let the people in, it shows the guy having a gun and the boy saying, "cool hat". The music suddenly becomes dark/looming at this part too. Maybe they're putting on an act and will rob Jane and Clem? Who knows...
Yeah... I ended up alone, but it didn't give me anything particularly hopeful.
No way to feed the baby, no hint of a settlement, just marching a blood soaked child through yet another horde of walkers. I suppose it's meant to imply that Clem will always keep moving forward, but it doesn't attempt the same level of closure that the other endings were going for.
Clem could have just walked around it though lol
Sorry, I can't agree. The idea that the writers favored Kenny is wrong, whether you liked it or not. It ruins immersion to think Kenny is just 'all better' if you go with him. He's never been all better. That wouldn't change just 'cuz.
Personally I got annoyed when I was forced to feel any one way about someone. I wanted to decide who to like and dislike. I felt like my Clem was way too attached to Kenny, when she had no reason to be from my play through.
This was my favorite ending, I think it favored what the walking dead has been all about in the comics ect. The world just ain't that nice. I like the gritty realism, and the falling down the slope of humanity.
I was honestly most underwhelmed by the alone ending. It had no closure at all, no hints at what's to come. Terribly, very anticlimactic. In my gut I had to make the choices I made when I made them, but if I could go back I would've gone with Kenny.
Nah, it's that with literally every ending, you either side with Kenny or heavily sympathize with him. If you side with Jane, there should be a choice to let her know that you're with her.. and I don't know, make up a plan to rid of Kenny..
Uh, be happy with your choice.
What else did you want from the Jane ending? You got everything you wanted.
Killed Kenny, got outta the snow, and got to choose between staying loners or starting a new community.
What else did you want? Please enlighten me, because I don't see the issue with her ending.
It is wrong, but once you start to analyze it..
I think fans of Nick, Sarah and Luke would like a word with you.
It's very abrupt and has no punch like the Kenny endings.
Well, what punch did you expect? Do you have any ideas?
I think it was fine to me. It was a good conclusion to either Clem or Jane's characters taking the family in or not.
If you take the family in, it shows how much Jane has progressed as a person. How she smiles when the woman suddenly hugs her, and then hugs her back. She's finally able to trust people again, thanks to Clem. She would never, ever, ever have done something like that if she'd never met her. I was smiling like an idiot when it happened, it was cute to see how much of a good influence Clem had been on her. It felt like a relatively happy ending.
And if Clem refuses the family, it shows how much Clem has changed. She'd be starting to put survival of her loved ones aboved everything else.
Doesn't really surprise me. You only know Jane for all of two episodes.
Yes, and in that same Playing Dead interview, they even said they set Luke up as this character most people thought Clem would "walk away into the sunset with", but they couldn't have that since it's the world of TWD, and it was "fun" to play with people's expectations like that... but yet Kenny does get the literal walk away into the sunset with ending.... that doesn't make much sense to me, because really, if they looked closely at the forums a lot of people wanted/expected that ending too, and they got it. So why couldn't Luke fans get that ending as well? And what did people that didn't particularly like Kenny get? Either an alone ending or a Jane ending... which like OP said in terms of content, weren't as heavy as the Kenny endings. And they should know how much opinions on Kenny vary, people either love him or hate him, so by having the story so tailored towards loving Kenny, they already isolate a good number of players. Even if you shoot him, Clem cries for him regardless, and he gets a somewhat redemptive or sympathetic death. While characters like Omid, Pete, Nick, Sarah, and Luke died and Clem didn't shed a single tear or dwell on their deaths... it definitely does feel like they expected all players to love Kenny.
I get the impression that YOU'D rather have a word with me, and it wouldn't be a particularly insightful one either.
Nick's death was badly handled, there's no getting around that. But there's been too much debate in this forum about Sarah's fate to just dismiss with a wave of the hand, and as for Luke...I don't know if you've taken a poll or something, but I doubt Luke has had as much of an impression on the fan community as you obviously think he has. I have a sneaking suspicion the Kenny-haters are a very small minority. They just seem numerous because they're loud and confrontational.
The difference between Jane and Kenny is that Jane is all about survival while Kenny is more of a family man.
Hate to break it to you and others, Nick, Sarah, etc. All secondary characters. They were just there for dramatic effect of the walkers world.
You get more heart and discussion with Kenny, it feels far more complete as an ending, I think the Jane one really was just a bit quick and didn't end on a proper note like Kenny's did, in his you either see him walking into the sunset alone or with Clem/AJ. Jane's just has the black kid complimenting your hat, it's not terrible it's just not nearly as powerful. The subtext is nice, but the execution, not so much in my opinion.
I prefered the jane endings because im the boss of Howe's Hardware now
