What were the different universes in the game? Also does it have online Co-Op and Multiplayer?
  • edited November 2012
    The different universes were:

    - One where Frat Boys rule the world (or street, since that's all you get to play)
    - One where the Amish rule due to Oil running out and them surviving without it
    - One where the Disabled were given so many perks they were able to take over

...and more. I gather there's one full of chickens and one in space, but I haven't gotten that far yet (and nor do I suspect I ever will, thanks to being bored of it already).

I don't personally know about online co-op, but it does have a co-op feature (that I never used) and multiplayer (which I never tried). From what I read on the interwebs, I gather neither are online, which is a frankly stupid idea and the designers should be shot for it. In the crotch. Repeatedly.

And I forgot to mention the terrible conversion to PC, which offers some frankly insulting resolution settings. There's like five, maybe six resolution options. No widescreen, nothing. And the graphics are terrible. This is a bad game. Stay away.

I have to admit, PS All-Stars is loads of fun. From what your making it sound like Darth i should be glad i got All-Stars :D

Level 4 is the 'evil' world. Because, y'know, that's creative.

And if you were seriously thinking about getting this over PASBR, consider yourself lucky you went with that one.

I just played through every character's story (and each ending) in The Cave a few days ago. It was excellent. Maniac Mansion was the start of my obsession with adventure games, and this game was so much like that game in many ways. The platform game elements were well done too (but shouldn't be a problem for most people who don't like action games, since the jumps aren't challenging and you can't die in The Cave).

Here's my full review on my blog. If you don't mind a single item inventory and direct control with platforming elements, and the fact that, like Maniac Mansion, this game is about the puzzles more than the story (although the story and humor that is there is excellent, albeit dark comedy) I highly recommend it. 4½ out of 5

Just finished Sonic Adventure 2 HD for PC. The game is really fun, the Chao garden is really cool, and the bosses are very interesting. King Boom Boo or whatever his name is, and Biolizard were a pain to beat, though. I'd give this game 8/10 because of some camera issues and some frustrating levels (Pumpkin Hill, Final Chase). I recommend this.

Thought I'd drop a post here too. After beating Colonial Marines on Steam, I can say from my own personal experience, I had had no AI issues with the enemies. They didn't do anything stupid(except the Boilers, but you only see them for 10min and I'd rather forget them anyway). My own team? Well, once they said they were backing me up...and didn't do shit. Another time, one of my men just stood there while I was being killed. Only two instances that really pissed me off, so all in all, it wasn't horrible.

Now, the graphics. Ah yes, I'll come right out and say it. Yes, they do look dated. Maybe 5 years ago. This wasn't a big issue with me. Graphics have looked great, in my opinion, for the past decade anyway. I've heard a lot of complaints about texture issues and drops, but everything looked and ran fine for me. Either that's a console issue or people's GPUs are garbage. The graphics themselves may not be pushing any boundaries, but there is a lot of running around and sudden changes.

Story... Um yeah. It is a bit of a mess. Shoot shit! There is a little itsy tiny miniscule GIANT retcon involving Alien3 though. If you're a huge fan of that film(either version), and I know you're not because we had this conversation and it was myself and one or two others defending the assembly cut versus the world... you may not want to know. Massive fan service for die hard Aliens fans though. The game is oozing with it. So yeah, forget the story, just grab your M41A and shoot the hell out of everything.

A rating? Well, whether it was the release day update, the PC version or just my own luck, I really don't see how or why this game is getting scores of 2-5 on average. It's just mediocre...everything is just so damn mediocre. The fanboy in me wants a 7, but honestly, I'd say it's a 6/10. So much missed potential with... everything. I didn't mind it and I will probably replay it a few more times. It just could have been so much better in many ways.

Whoa whoa whoa. I played the console version. THAT'S where the problems are. Graphics, AI, everything mentioned on review sites. Now I see this as a 4-5. This is not cool. Stick with PC for the campaign.

Started playing Deponia, and thought I'd give my first impression.

Now this is my kind of game. :)

It's funny, lighthearted, and doesn't take itself too seriously.

A few problems noticed though. The inflection of certain words in spoken dialogue isn't right for the context of conversation ("well, you are" instead of "well, you are"). The names for some things also doesn't seem right. There's a comfy chair in Rufus' living room that that game calls a "sofa" (a sofa seats 2 or more, while this chair is at best 1.5 people wide), and he has what is very clearly a jar of oil which the game calls a "can" (a jar is glass/plastic with a resealable lid, a can is metal).

I just marked Need for Speed:Undercover as "null" on my Backloggery. Therefore I am neither currently playing it nor will I ever beat it. I bought it and NFS:Hot Pursuit when they were on a ridiculous sale on Steam, but Undercover is WAY too easy and not nearly as good a game as either of the racing games I have on PS3 (Burnout Paradise and Midnight Club:LA).

    Mega Man 9. 7/10.

Let me make this clear. I have not finished this yet. The game is fun but its main problem is the same as Jak 2's problem. The damn game does not got many checkpoints and extremely cheap deaths. I know this is meant to based on the NES Mega Man games but that still in my opinion does not excuse it. I know the point of Mega Man is meant to be trial and error but there's a certain point where ''Trial and Error'' becomes just plain repetitive. The cheap deaths is the main problem here. There's always moments where enemies pop out while you are in the middle of jumping a platform and what happens? You are sent into the pit and lose a live and its annoying. Again I know this was made for the old school Mega Man fans but I wish Capcom would have added an easy, normal, and hard mode so New comers to the series can play at their own pace instead of getting more and more annoyed having to repeat the same area over and over and over.

Perils of Man: Chapter One: It's extremely short and it's let down a bit by the overacting of Ana's mother's voice actress, but everything else makes up for it. It has some of the best puzzles I've played in an adventure game since the 90's. 4 out of 5

I have decided to do my monster reviews for October for my blog again this year. I'm going to try to do one a day, but I'm not going to hold myself to that. At the very least, I'll make sure I do more reviews this year than I did when I last did the Monster Reviews in 2012.

Day 1 (Ghosts) Ben Jordan: Horror at Number 50: I love the Ben Jordan series, and this one improves upon its predecessors by having Ben work with other paranormal investigators. It is the best Ben Jordan case I've played so far. 4½ out of 5

Day 2 (Mutant Tentacles) Day of the Tentacle: It's one of my favorite adventure games. I replay it at least once a year. This was the game that showed me that sequels could deviate significantly from the source material and still be excellent. 4½ out of 5

Day 3 (Demon Zombie and Skeletons) The Curse of Monkey Island: It's another game that I replay often, and another example of a game that differs in tone and art style from its predecessors but still is a great game. 4½ out of 5

Day 4 (Zombies) Ben Jordan: Land of the Rising Dead: The Ben Jordan games just keep getting better as they go on. The plot of this one was great, with so many twists and turns and an excellent ending. 4½ out of 5

  • Day 5 (Sasquatches) Sam & Max Hit the Road: Still a blast to play today. It's probably my second or third favorite Sam & Max game, and is another one of the LucasArts games I replay often. 4½ out of 5

Day 6 (Zombies) The Walking Dead: No Time Left: The Walking Dead: Season One is my favorite (along with The Wolf Among Us) of Telltale's cinematic story games. This is where they abandoned their simple inventory puzzles and action scenes with direct player interaction, but the choice based branching of how the characters react to you and especially the story and fantastic voice acting make up for it. 4 out of 5

Day 7 (Trolls) The Book of Unwritten Tales 2: Chapter One: This chapter is absolutely fantastic. It's too early to tell of course, but if the quality keeps up, this could potentially end up being one of my all time favorite adventure games. 4½ out of 5

Day 8 (Zombies) The Walking Dead: 400 Days. I did like it, but it wasn't the best episode of the series. The choice based gameplay doesn't work well when you aren't given enough time to see how the characters respond to your choices. 3½ out of 5

Wow, I can't believe I'm keeping up with this. This is the longest reviewing streak I've ever been on.

Day 9 (Zombies) Stacking: The Lost Hobo King: I really enjoyed Stacking, and the downloadable content is just as charming as the main game. The only drawback is that it's quite short, but that's not a big deal as the price is right for what you get (especially on computer platforms, where it's bundled with the main game). 4 out of 5

Day 10 (Ghost Demon Zombie) Escape from Monkey Island: I recently played through this on ResidualVM, and have been dreading reviewing it. I actually like the game, but I'm a very patient person, so I have to be critical when reviewing it. The story's actually objectively interesting, and I like the puzzles, voice work, and music, but the character art drags the score down, and the Monkey Kombat drags it down even more. 3 out of 5

Day 11 (Werewolves, trolls) The Wolf Among Us: Faith: It continues on with the modern Telltale tradition of choice based gameplay and quick time events, but unlike 400 Days, it manages to use this formula well. The option to choose between locations gives it a feeling of urgency, and the consequences of the choices are handled well. 4½ out of 5

Day 12 (Aliens) Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders: I like the game, but it doesn't stand the test of time well. Mazes that can only be completed by chance and the ability to lose all of your money making you stuck in the game make the game not as fun as it should be. It's a shame as the puzzles are great and the ability to become animals is unique and fun. 3 out of 5

Day 13 (Cthulthu like creature, demon) Sam & Max: The City That Dares Not Sleep: An excellent end to the season, and possibly the series. If it ends here, it's fine by me, as it ended on a high note. Great puzzles, great voice acting and music, and awesome story. It was actually really emotionally touching, which was something I never expected from Sam & Max but appreciated a lot. 4½ out of 5

Day 14 (Werewolf and trolls) The Wolf Among Us: Smoke and Mirrors: I really liked this. It continued the excellent pace of the first episode. I would have liked to see more of the mundies, but the twist of the rest of the story of the episode made up for it. 4½ out of 5

Day 15 (artificial intelligence run amok, robots, clones) Beneath a Steel Sky: Excellent game. I originally played the free version from ScummVM, but recently played through the Remastered version on iPad, and was glad to give Revolution my money. Great story, great characters, great music, great puzzles. This really is a must play adventure. 4½ out of 5

  • Just finished playing Left Behind, the Last of Us DLC. I have to say that it was pretty darn good. A little boring perhaps, in parts, but it was worth playing.

Riley and Ellie had a close relationship. It was quite touching to see them being able to act like kids again and forget that there is a horrible world out there.

And there is a nice addition to the game of being able to use the clickers to help kill other enemies, such as hunters.

Overall, a great DLC and it provides some good background into what Ellie was like before she met Joel. 8/10

  • Alright then. Been playing Red Dead Redemption a lot lately after a long break, and I love it.

Story: The story is always something I've appreciated in a video game. And in RDR, the story of John Marston and his oûlaw past drew me in. A shame I had the ending spoiled, but I had it coming. After four years, I was bound to hear about it.

Gameplay: Holy shit, I love the gameplay. There's just so much to do and it all rewards you in some way. From hunting to clearing out gang hideouts, you'll rarely be bored. Plus, money's worth a lot because of the 1911 setting, so even $25 can make a difference.

Physics: The one thing that annoys me. Trying to run up a mountain only to fall back down and land in a river is frustrating. And shooting while on a horse is difficult without Dead Eye or assisted aiming enabled. I can't blame Rockstar too much though. It was 2010, and the game is almost as polished as GTA V.

Cheats: I love using cheats. Unlocking all areas, getting all outfits and weapons and taking on the police in a siege at Blackwater is my favourite in-game pastime. I just wish the game would stop erasing them and making enter the long-ass codes AGAIN. A serious pain in the ass.

9/10. A few flaws, but overall a spectacle even by today's standard.

Day 16 (Aliens and ghosts) The Dig: It went through development hell, but came out decent in the end. The dialog is dry, the story is slow moving, and the ending is somewhat abrupt, but it had some good Myst-like object manipulation puzzles, the characters were interesting, and the story on a whole was pretty well done. 3½ out of 5

Day 17 (Zombies and an emo vampire) Sam & Max: Night of the Raving Dead: This is one of my favorite episodes of the entire series. I loved the send up of monster movies. The jokes were funny, I loved the voice acting and music, and the puzzles were fun. 4½ out of 5

Bonus Non-Adventure Review Costume Quest: I really like this game, but I had to be objective when reviewing it. Turn based combat and quick time events for more damage and blocking can get repetitive, and the game's plot is pretty basic. Though, the game's charming art style, humorous dialog, great music, fun costume based game play, and fun puzzles make it worth playing. 3½ out of 5

Day 18 (Trolls and mentions of zombies) The Book of Unwritten Tales 2: Its another great chapter, let down a little bit by the confusing nature of the Critter language and a hard to follow mini game. It's art style, characters, voice acting, music, humor, puzzles, and plot continue to be amazing though. I can't wait for chapter 3. 4 out of 5

Day 19 (Werewolf, trolls, and urban legends) The Wolf Among Us: A Crooked Mile: It's really starting to get good. Still purely cinematic with no puzzles or direct action sequences, but the choices still effect the character's reactions to Bigby well and this episode has the first determinant character choice. The season's secondary villain, which is first introduced here, is excellent. 4½ out of 5

Day 20 (dragon and demon) Loom: An early casual adventure that is short and the puzzles aren't too difficult. It also doesn't have action verbs or an inventory, but uses musical drafts instead. The art, music, and voice acting (in the DOS CD version) are excellent. It ends on an unresolved cliffhanger, but the story is strong enough to stand on its own. 4 out of 5

Yep, surprisingly I'm still keeping at the daily reviews for my Halloween Monster reviews on my blog. Barring any unforseen circumstances, it looks like I'll have 34 or 35 reviews done this month. Quite productive, and chunked down my backlog considerably. Plus, I've actually had fun doing them. :)

Day 21 (Werewolf and urban legends) The Wolf Among Us: In Sheep's Clothing: Another solid chapter that continues to use the choice based gameplay well. The new secondary villain introduced here isn't as menacing as the first, but is suitably creepy when not glamored. 4½ out of 5

Day 22 (Nightmare creatures) Dreamfall Chapters Book One: It's a long awaited sequel that mostly delivers. The engine isn't smooth, as way the camera locks onto an object only when you walk right up to it makes me dizzy. The character models look nice, but the animations are stiff. But, it has a choice based system like Telltale's and classic style inventory puzzles that manage to work well together (I really hope Telltale is paying attention to this should they decide to take another crack at an adventure game series like Monkey Island or Sam & Max). It also has lots of areas to explore, great music, and the story is as information intensive yet interesting as ever. 4 out of 5

Bonus Non-Adventure Review - Costume Quest: Grubbins on Ice: It has the shortcomings of the main game, which is expected as it's just downloadable content. So, the turn based combat with quick time events for blocking and dealing damage still get repetitive after a while. However, the new costumes are great and the new puzzles based around these costumes are fun as well. It's quite short, but it has a slightly more interesting and memorable story than the main game. 3½ out of 5

Day 23 (Werewolf, troll, urban legends) The Wolf Among Us: Cry Wolf: The mystery is mostly wrapped up well in the finale, minus one intentionally hanging loose end that will hopefully be explored somehow in the future. The climactic battle with the secondary villain from episode 3 is awesome, and it's great to finally see Bigby in full form. However, the story does feel a bit railroaded at the end, as not all of your choices matter, as one instance in particular will always happen in order to match comic continuity. Still, overall it was a satisfying ending. 4 out of 5

Day 24 (Ghosts and mythical devices) Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis: One of the best Indiana Jones games ever created. Multiple paths, great puzzles, an art style that conveys the wonder of the locations despite the pixels, and great music and voice acting make it a true classic. 4½ out of 5

Day 25 (Zombies) The Walking Dead Season Two: All That Remains: I've been dreading reviewing this as it was the first season by Telltale where I really didn't like the story (at least up to the finale, where I felt it was somewhat redeemed), and I didn't want to be too harsh on it since I try to look at everything I review objectively. The time skip hurts the narrative, and since the choice based gameplay doesn't really come into effect until the middle of the episode, the choices don't amount to much so the lack of puzzles and direct control action is felt here more than in season one. However, the art style is excellent, with slightly improved graphics but still retaining the excellent comic styled look. The music and voice acting was also great, and Melissa Hutchinson did an excellent job of portraying a slightly older Clementine. Ultimately, All That Remains doesn't make much of a mark of its own, and feels like its merely a setup for the larger season arc. 3½ out of 5
