What should the world do about ISIS?

Well, if you've seen the news in the last six months, you've probably heard about these asshole and how they're claiming vast areas of land and slaughtering thousands of people. According to this article, ISIS is getting dangerously close to overrunning Baghdad and the rest of Iraq. These guys aren't your average insurgents either. They're fanatical, armed with US equipment and have a strong grasp on social media. The crimes they've committed are sickening: mass executions, beheading of hostages and sexual slavery of the Yazidi, to name a few.

It's a really shitty situation, because a lot of the United States' friends and allies are funding or turning a blind eye to their activities. Even worse, the US airstrikes are having almost no affect on ISIS. For some reason, most of strikes are directed at Kobane, a city that will likely fall anyway (according to the pentagon). I feel bad for the people there, but there are many more lives at stake in Iraq.

So, here's the question? What should the the US (and the world at large) do about ISIS? Fight them? Launch bombs at them? Ignore them? I honesty have no fucking idea. None of the options are very attractive. EDIT: Also, if anyone has a question about what's going on, just ask, I'm reasonably well informed about the situation.

  • Last I checked, it seemed like we were fighting them (US dropping air strikes on them) . Not really up to date on the situation right now so I'm unsure if any major things have happened that have slowed the US down from any further attacking.

  • Australia's air force is now carrying out air strikes as well. I'm not sure if any of you heard, but ISIS told followers here to behead Australians at random and record them. There were some anti terror raids in Sydney as well these last few months.

  • New Zealand is going to get involved too, it seems,

As for what should the world do? Your guess is as good as mine, but, they need to be stopped at all costs.

  • Yeah, I was reading a propaganda piece and apparently they have it in for France and Australia. God only knows why.

I heard about the terror raids, but I'm not entirely sure why they were carried out.

  • Nope, just standard beurocratic stuff. The pentagon decided to mothball the reliable A-10 bomber right before the operation, so the Air Force is stuck using F-16's and helicopters. The former isn't even meant for bombing.

  • We annihilate them using whatever means. I don't care whether or not it's attractive as an option, we should not stand idle while innocent people are having their heads chopped off brutally.

If we ignore them, then they will probably do something more sickening and damaging to get our attention. They are cockroaches needing to be vanquished.

  • These are my thoughts, but if ground troops are sent out, it should have to be the US and NATO acting alone. Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey all funded and supplied ISIS. They should be the ones to fight on the front lines.

In an ideal world, an Arab League coalition would be sent in with some NATO ground and air support. But it not a perfect world. The leaders of the gulf nations are cowards and Turkey seems like they'd prefer to let ISIS to exterminate the Kurds. If they don't participate we should cut all aid and diplomatic ties to them.

Sorry, but it's the only option I see. You can't reason with these fanatics. The downside are the many innocent civilian casulties, but ISIS must be exterminated.

  • Huh, Interesting. Didn't know that.

  • I agree. There's people out there who want everybody else to live under their religion. The only difference with ISIS is that they have the means to do so. If that happens... you know what? I don't wanna think about that.

  • About exactly why the raids were carried carried out.

    Didn't know what?

  • Every country should just send in troops and kill them all.

  • nuke them

  • It must have been a last minute decision since Tony Abbott said we'd have minimal involvement in Iraq this time. Sounds like good ol' John Howard fucked it up the first time.

  • ISIS must be stopped, the world needs to go all out in destroying them. Fuck politics, fuck civility, they are pure evil and must be eliminated. War is often times our last resort, and all too often we've resorted to it and we're far to late to save innocent people, civilians, POW's, etc. This results in far too many deaths that could've been prevented by earlier intervention. So many more people are going to die because our inaction. Acting now and eliminating the threat will no doubt cause more death, that's how war works, but we need to fight them head on, ASAP. We can't make that mistake again of waiting things out, look at the wars of the past, we waited far too long to act and look at how many people, innocent people suffered and died. We need to act now before they spread everywhere. It's like a disease, isolate the threat and deal with it.

  • Well the early invention against isis was the the war on terror. If we had dealt with al-qaeda properly, they would not have been able to form isis. Honestly, I believe if we hadn't started withdrawing troops from the middle east, whilst the threat of extremists was still there, isis would not be the problem they are today. If we are to take them head on we have to change our tactics we don't want repeat of the mistakes made between 2001 and now in the middle east.

    Yes,

If someone else wants to do the job, go ahead. Personally I think America is tired of playing Mr Mom, we got other things to deal with; for example Ebola in Ohio. Thanks to Obama and his stupid ass policies, and the "health care humanitarians bringing their work back home," bringing that disease here. Their humanity put us all at risk, how do you think they dealt with Ebola in the 1970s, eventually this disease died out. Now we send hundreds of people over there trying to treat a disease, that is a going to kill itself out. Its usually a isolated disease because people get it by eating rats, bats, whatever "bush" meat.

If Ebola spreads to Mexico its going to be Pandemonium. This is so serious. People been downplaying it since it started, mainly because they believe Thomas Freeman, now Josh Earnest putting the blame on Thomas Freeman, who else would the Obama administration make the fall guy.

I saw him say quote "less protection for Ebola is more." Then earlier someone had a picture of him in full body Hazmat suit with double gloves, in a camp in West Africa. I'm sure he is telling people the truth right?

The stock market plummeted over 5% in the last 3 days.

There goes over a trillion dollars. Thanks Obama!

  • The past few generations are too soft if you ask me, and an anti-war rhetoric is making itself far to prevalent in society. Sometimes war is the only way to deal with a threat. Talking can only get us so far. Of course, it's sad to say how War will change the ones involved, and I hate what it does to good young men and women, our soldiers who see the absolute horror of war and fighting. But we can't simply think of war as the ultimate evil, sometimes it has been the tool that liberated and saved far more lives, and our inaction to often gets people killed, like now.
