GOG's big conference is tomorrow. What are you all expecting? All signs seem to point towards GOG Client, but they could always surprise us. Maybe GOG Wallet, which was mentioned all the way back during the regional pricing controversey. Maybe they're going to re-confirm their Linux support plans and announce a bunch of games that will be supported at launch. Maybe, given GOG's love of wordplay and half-truths, it WILL end up being GOG Early Access. It might even be Disney/LucasArts signed on as a publisher, we'll know for sure in just under 23 hours.
Neither is it a new and big publisher on board. Here's what the email notification of the event says:
Unveiling of GOG.com's new technology taking the platform to the next level
If it was something Steam like, that would really be a sick thing to say (because they'd essentially express that Steam is the next level). But I guess Client or auto updating tools could pretty much be what this announcement is about.
Worst case scenarios: achievements, assorted other virtual badge collectible bullshit, Client, auto updater, Greenlight type customer survey.
Second best case scenario: complete website overhaul with more control over the game library, longer and editable reviews, new and far more advanced forums with far more account individuality.
Absolute best case scenario: GOG has a huge problem, and that is to bring large publishers like EA, Ubisoft, Rockstar, Take2 etc. on board. To do that, they will have to offer something to them that no site can offer them, particularly not Steam. What that could be? I have no idea. GOG offered to sacrifice global pricing. The publishers didn't bite. If GOG has a bargaining chip no one has yet thougt of, it'd be a whole new game.
...oh, and they will of course announce their Witcher adventure game. From the sound of it, quite a puzzle intense experience.

Well, I think I know ONE of their big announcements. Bohemia Interactive is leaving on the 22nd, and they're taking their games with them. But, before that happens, you can grab the ARMA games for 60% off each, or 80% off if you buy them all. If you're waiting for a sale on their fourth game, Original War, you're out of luck since no sale is planned before the removal date.
Summer sale's on. Almost all the games are on sale for the standard half off. Stuff that isn't on sale includes some recent releases, the never-on-sale-and-sure-to-be-removed-but-hasn't-yet Arx Fatalis, the departing Bohemia games (speaking of, ever wondered what happens when a DRM-free game has the plug pulled? Guess we'll find out soon) and probably a bunch of other stuff that I have no idea about. Daily deals are back, along with hourly flash sales (yay...), and apparently the annual free game will be mixed in with the flash sales, and maybe get a day of its own.

Well, Bohemia has said that all non-Steam versions of Arma 2 are no longer going to be patched, and online is going to be cut off for those versions. If you want to keep playing Arma 2 on official servers, you MUST get a Steam copy, no ifs ands or buts about it.
Yeah, I have quite a few removed from GOG games in my account still, but none of them are online games (it stinks when companies turn off services for one set of users while keeping them online for others - all the console games with PC counterparts come to mind). Hopefully people will do what they do on the consoles and create unofficial fan servers (it won't be the same as playing on the official ones, but some fan servers are pretty populated... I'm surprised how many people still use the Dreamcast/GameCube/Xbox Phantasy Star Online/PC fan servers, considering the age of that game).
GOG's amazing super special "OMG WHAT ARE WE GONNA DO YOU'RE GONNA HAVE TO WAIT A SEE" countdown ended with... the all-bundles-in-a-day sale that has been part of every sale since December 2012... oh well, at least you can queue up to get the sale's free game, which is Magrunner.
Well, I think we can safely add EA to the list of "companies that don't care about GOG anymore", now that they're selling their back catalogue on Origin. The writing was on the wall after Populous showed up there, now they're just making it official. There's no word on what will happen next, but the best case scenario is that EA uses GOG as a form of cheap labor (like Square Enix does) and GOG gets timed exclusivity on classics.
On the downside, GOG is being forced to remove 35 mostly classic games from their service because something, something, regional pricing. But don't worry, GOG will help the pain of losing such a massive chunk of catalogue sting less by offering a service that no one asked for, DRM-FREE MOVIES! You know, if it weren't for the fact I had such a big back catalogue from them, this would probably be the stunt that made GOG.com dead to me.
Star Wars Jedi Academy was one of my favorites. You got so many weapons in that game, but it was a bit challenging.
And From Russia with Love on the Xbox. It's what got me interested in the James Bond franchise. Another game where you got a crapload of cool gadgets. One of the best on the Xbox, in my opinion.

I like the idea of DRM-free movies. I bought some digital movies on Amazon, iTunes, and even Steam, and the DRM is indeed a pain. For movies, I sometimes like to watch on my Xbox, sometimes on my iPad, sometimes on my computer, and it's pretty difficult to do all three when I'm restricted with what I can do. There aren't too many DRM-free movie retailers out there, so I'm personally glad GOG.com is picking up the slack.

Hey, some good GOG news for once. We are roughly 30 days from a brand new, major publisher. All hints suggest that we're finally getting LucasArts, and there will be a countdown once we get closer to the launch of the first game. Also, tomorrow we'll be getting a free, highly requested shooter, for 48-hours. Just sign up for it and you'll be good to go.
Four days until a new publisher on GOG. All dropped hints suggest it's going to be Disney, but I'm predicting slim-to-no chance it'll be LucasArts. A ton of Disney shovelware cropped up on Steam recently, it's probably going to be all that.
You're probably right about it being Disney. It's too bad LucasArts doesn't go with Disney since they seem to be releasing games from a lot of other studios on Steam, but they haven't released anything from LucasArts that hasn't already been released on Steam through Disney there either.

GOG needs to get some new coders. Apparently someone checked into the assets for the countdown timer and found image files of numbers using logo fonts from Indiana Jones, Star Wars and Monkey Island. Pretty much confirms we're getting LucasArts, or at the very least, the LucasArts stuff you can already buy on Steam.
And it's finally here. LucasArts comes to us by way of Disney and brought with them 20 or so games to be released over the coming months. Launched games are in the previous post, but with a few clarifications. SoMISE and KOTOR are actually $12.49 with a 20% off discount, SoMISE does NOT come with the original game running in SCUMMVM, and X-Wing and TIE Fighter contain the DOS and Windows versions. Besides that, go nuts, the second most unlikely thing to happen on GOG just happened.
Did you buy anything during GOG's "Last Chance" sale for Nordic Games? Well, sucks to be you, you didn't count on Nordic coming back for one weekend only, and bringing ever deeper discounts with them!

Awesome. It's great to see more Lucas games on GOG.com.
And great to see the next wave will be coming quicker. Even though this batch is all Star Wars and Star Wars really isn't my thing, I'll probably even pick up the Star Wars games just to show my support for the releases (plus the games are pretty much universally praised, so they'll be fun too - I played some of KOTOR 1 when I picked it up on Steam and I did like what I played).
Well they sure took their sweet time with these. Anyway, it's time for the second wave of LucasArts titles, and I hope you like Star Wars be… morecause that's all you're getting this time! For the first time digitally, you can get Star Wars: X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter for $9.99, Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance for $9.99 and Star Wars: Galactic Battleground Saga for $5.99. Rounding out the lineup, we have Star Wars: Dark Forces for the launch price of $4.79, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords for the launch price of $7.99 and Star Wars: Battlefront 2 for the launch price of $7.99. We don't just have releases, we have sales too! Until January 30th, you can get 20% off Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, The Secret of Monkey Island - Special Edition and Indiana Jones and The Fate of Atlantis. KOTOR and Monkey Island have also had their prices adjusted down to 10 bucks, so that's cool. If you don't see anything you like here, don't worry, as GOG will have a THIRD wave coming this Thursday.
Just a heads up, the next wave of LucasArts games appears to be all Star Wars too. The email they sent out with this one says that there will be another 6 Star Wars games between tomorrow and some time next week.

It's time for another new publisher, and this time it's Warner Bros. We start off with Mortal Kombat 1+2+3 for $5.99, which are the DOS versions, not the 2012 abomination, but also not the more familiar Genesis versions or MK Trilogy. We also have the 2011 XBLA darling Bastion for the launch price of $5.99, the worst LEGO game of all time (LEGO Batman) for the launch price of $7.49, LEGO Harry Potter Years 1-4 and 5-7, both for the launch price of $7.99, and F.E.A.R. Platinum, containing the origianl F.E.A.R. and both non-canon expansions, for the launch price of $4.99.
Took them long enough. GOG brings us six more LucasArts games and guess what, they're all adventure games this time! Well... OK, five advent… moreures and one FPS, but at least it's not a Star Wars FPS and it totally could have been! In the digital premiere section, we have Outlaws and A Handful of Missions for $5.99, Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb for $5.99 and Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders for $5.99. We've also got Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge SE for the launch price of $7.99 (still missing the original, non-SE version), The Dig for the launch price of $4.79 and Loom for the launch price of $4.79.
GOG is kicking off their first May 4th celebration with a bang. They've got three new releases; Star Wars: Rebel Assault 1+2 for $9.99, Star Wars: Jedi Knight 2 - Jedi Outcast for the launch price of $7.99 and Star Wars: Jedi Knight - Jedi Academy for the launch price of $7.99. Following up with that, there's two bundles for a drastically discounted price. There's the Blaster Bundle for $38.93 (contains X-Wing, TIE Fighter, X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter, X-Wing Alliance, Rogue Squadron 3D, Galactic Battlegrounds and Rebellion) and the Saber Bundle for $22.49 (contains KotOR, KotOR 2, Starfighter, Republic Commando, Battlefront 2, Empire at War Gold, Dark Forces, Dark Forces 2 and the newly released Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy). What could be better? How about GOG getting off their butts and giving us the DOS CD-Rom versions of X-Wing and TIE Fighter, best known as the definitive versions and which were sorely lacking from the first wave.

Ask and ye shall receive. They've added the much requested collector's CD versions of Star Wars X-Wing and Star Wars TIE Fighter, which is included with the other versions of the game already available, which means that if you already ordered these games from GOG.com, or if you'll get them now, you'll get the DOS versions, the DOS CD versions, and the Windows versions with your purchase.

Ugh, seems like the insolent and customer insulting parts I quoted on May 30th out of the Early Access FAQ were brand new.
Venturebeat caught up with that shit four days later.

BTW, the "Enigmatic T" leaves gog.com.
BIG SAD.
Live stream should start... about now.
Release date Witcher 3: February 24th, 2015
"GOG galaxy": Unfortunately there is an (optional) client and (optional) auto updates, and worst of all: infantile achievements.
"Witcher adventure game" is an online multiplayer digital board game.

Depends on the plug.
In most cases, the game remains in your account, downloadable and all, but can't be purchased any more.

Yup, that just strengthens Valve's monopoly. Then again, at least gog doesn't sell Air Control.

And that's why I think gog is heading into really hard times... while Steam flourishes whatever they do.
So, the sales figures are in, and guess where GOG placed on the list of places selling Shovel Knight. I'll give you a hint, it came in dead last.
Hey, it's just the PC players shoveling their own grave. Nothing new there, I guess.
Nothing

Eh, actually I'll just pick up all the ones I don't already own. It's only $30.

Oh. My interest is suddenly dampened... You'd think they could at least throw in an Indiana Jones game or two.
Continuing with wave 2, we have three more Star Wars games! Star Wars: Empire at War Gold for the launch price of $11.99, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 3D for $5.99 and Star Wars Rebellion for $5.99.
Wave 2 ends with, you guessed it, MORE STAR WARS GAMES. This time we have Star Wars: Jedi Knight - Dark Forces 2, with Mysteries of the Sith expansion, for the launch price of $4.79, Star Wars: Republic Commando for the launch price of $7.99 and Star Wars: Starfighter for the launch price of $4.79.

It's great to see that they released a wave with no Star Wars games after the last had nothing but. The balance has been restored.
Plus, they have the 256 color FM-Towns version of Zak McKracken available that has previously been hard to get and crazy expensive. Awesome.
