Are you guys ever going to release this game on GOG? Steam Cloud has also been causing me a lot of grief. I have disabled Steam Cloud for years, but for some games it still override my new saves with old outdated backups. It happened with Dungeon Siege III and XCOM: Enemy Within. Now it has happened to The Walking Dead. When I attempted to recover my new save files, your game broke. Steam Cloud is seriously ticking me off.

I have no intention of replaying the game all over again. I think telling your customer to "reinstall and restart the game" just shows that you guys do not value/respect your customer's time. I've spent hours playing the games, and now I'm suppose to waste more hours to replay the same thing all over again (which is going to be boring for me) due to your mistakes? No thanks. My time has value, you know.

When I played your older games (Back to the Future) downloaded from GOG, I did not have to deal with any of the "cloud saving/backup" BS that has caused me nothing but grief.

  • Can someone please help me?

  • Never mind, actually that rant above my comment helped me more than you lot. It indeed is the Steam Cloud, not to mention that I have to disconnect my internet in order not to get stuck in an endless connection struggle. Thanks for not helping me and letting me purchase a game on a platform that doesn't work like it should work. Have a nice day.

@dEnroc Please rename the prefs.prop file in

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Walking Dead\Pack\default

to prefs.prop.bak to disable it, then restart the game, and your save files will be restored.

    Mod Edit

  • Hi I have issues getting this Walking Dead S2 to launch. Once I open it one steam I am just greeted with a black screen and task manager says the program is not responding. I didn't have these issues with season 1. Here is my file from the diagnostic tool. http://www.sendspace.com/filegroup/2GNYzpBC3HykqJon9tXgAezN6ux6Gx2moZRficwwu234MZ7GcoG+jD5g1k80MdVX

My apologies for the delayed response. Unfortunately after looking over your Support Tool information, I cannot seem to find the reason you are experiencing the issue. Below are a few possible solutions:

    1) Verify your cache if you purchased through Steam (https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335)

    2) Run the game as admin

    3) Run the game in compatibility mode (right click on game’s icon, click properties, click compatibility tab , and we recommend running the game in Windows 98/ME ) (We recommend Windows 98/ME)

    4) Reinstall the game

    5) Make sure that the Steam application is not set to a compatibility mode (right click on steam and click properties, then check compatibility, and make sure that it is not checked to play in a different OS)

    6) Disable Steam Overlay, if you purchased through Steam (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3168263)

    7) Opt out of the Steam Beta, if you purchased through Steam (http://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/828934424165581080/)

  • Hi, i am taking the black screen problem on the starting of episode 2. There is only an axe at the left of the screen and a music. That's all. Here is my informations: http://wikisend.com/download/381920/TWD_support_data_pc.zip . Please help

Unfortunately the download link to your Support Tool did not work. We recommend using This File Hosting Website to upload the Support Tool .zip file.

Please do a search on your computer for 'prefs.prop'. The only one that should be associated with the game should be in

    C:\Users\YOURNAME\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead\

If you find another prefs.prop file, specifically in a Steam file directory for the game, please rename it to prefs.prop.bak to disable it, then restart the game, and your save files should be restored.

  • I am having the same issue with episode 2 loading with a black screen and axe on the left side with music. The escape key does nothing, and I saw a re-occuring issue with the prefs.prop in the steam folder. So I changed the prefs.prop.bak in steam and have the same issue. I am running the support command line again, and am attaching the new zip. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please do a search on your computer for 'prefs.prop'. The only one that should be associated with The Walking Dead should be inside your

file directory. If there are any others in your Steam file directory, or anywhere else, please rename them to prefs.prop.bak. Please also make sure to disable Steam Cloud Saving for the game, as this has been known to cause this issue. (You can check this by right-clicking on the game in your Steam Library, clicking Properties, and click the Updates tab. Near the bottom of the page, you can see if the Steam Cloud is enabled for The Walking Dead: Season One)

  • I forgot to mention that I am on Mac 10.10.3. I am not finding prefs.prop when doing a spotlight search, but followed the path given by TWD_support_data.

I am seeing the Steam Prefs file, and the Telltale Prefs file. I changed the steam one as seen below, and am still having the issue after disabling the cloud support option in Steam.

Please make sure to check for an extra created prefs.prop file after you have disabled Steam Cloud Saving, just to make sure another prefs.prop was not created. If the issue still persists after you have cleared all duplicate prefs.prop files, you can also try swapping the prefs.prop.bak frile from the /default/ folder you named above, with the actual one in the /The Walking Dead/ folder, and switch the names between the two files (prefs.prop to prefs.prop.bak, and vise versa) then restart the game and see if your save files are then restored. If not, please try running the Support Tool file one more time, then upload it to This File Hosting Website, and I will look over your newly altered file structure, and be able to assist you further.

  • I've played through the game (on a mac pro). Now I had the black screen issue like everyone else and did the prefs.prop.bak thing which worked but now the game doesn't save. https://www.sendspace.com/file/nrf8es

  • TelltaleMikeTelltaleMike Former Telltale Staff

@t3n0r1ff1c Please first make sure that the prefs.prop file in

    /Library/Application Support/Telltale Games/TheWalkingDead

stays named to prefs.prop, as this is your primary preferences file associated with your save files. There are a couple prefs.prop files causing this issue though, in other file directories. Please rename the prefs.prop files in

    /Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/The Walking Dead/TheWalkingDead.app/Contents/Resources/Pack/default/

to prefs.prop.bak to disable them, then start the game, and your save files will be restored.

Apologies for the delayed response, yes, there should only be one prefs.prop file in your save file directory that is associated with the game.
