I'm just saying that an unjust peace may stop a war, but it can also not only fail to be a long-term solution, but become a catalyst for something even worse.
Fair enough. I probably should've phrased my opinion better. I'm just making a general point that, as bad as oppression is, the misery and destruction caused by war is usually worse. War can't be compromised with or pressured to resign, it just destroys everything it touches.

Not reading has become a point of pride for a lot of people. They brag about it. Ironically, you come across a lot of these people in coll… moreege. It seems to be a millenial thing.
Ignorance of current events is a much older problem and I hear a lot of people (baby boomers and millenials alike) bragging and joking about how uneducated they are on current issues, claiming that 'ignorance is bliss'. In my opinion, it stems from the Cold War mentality of sticking your head in the sand and not concerning yourself with the government's actions.
You don't have to be completely caught up 100% with current events, but IMO being aware of the world around you is an important part of being a productive member of society.
Knowledge is my armor and my sword. It baffles me that so many people would choose to go through life unarmed.
The culture here with guns is indeed strong. Not as much so as yours, but still strong.
Around the time of the Port Aurther massacre and the gun buy-back, in fact, most were utterly furious that they had to give up their guns in such a way. What should come as a real surprise is that this happaned under a conservative government of all things.
Thing is, semi-automatic rifles would still be perfectly legal under an assault weapon ban, as long as they don't have more than 1-2 offending accessories.
I could transplant the guts of my 10/22 into a wooden stock in about 5 minutes and it would be perfectly legal.
Hell, the US government sells surplus M1 Garands and M1 Carbines as part of the Civilian Marksmanship Program.
Wow, that's nuts. In America, there would be civil disobedience (and quite possibly violence) if the government tried that. There's a reason that "from my cold, dead hands" is a rallying cry of our gun nuts.

Check out the part under "Australia". I sincerely doubt that that would ever happen in the US with the attitudes you describe
Couldn't agree more. I have a custom Ruger 10/22 that would be considered an 'assault weapon' simply because it has a folding stock, a flas… moreh suppressor and a standard 25rd magazine. In spite of the fact that it's a glorified plinking rifle, it would be considered illegal under that ban.
Banning weapons on the basis of aesthetics and notoriety doesn't work. It didn't work in 1994 and it won't work today. The continued push for another ban does nothing but give the NRA an excuse to undermine sensible gun control reforms.
I'm not saying I agree with what they do, I'm just saying that it's what the people of the church want. Still though, that doesn't make what they do charitable or even reputable, so in the scenario you presented taxation would still apply to them.
But are taxpayers funding it? If the church is using the money they receive from tithes to carry out these events, then it's up to the people that pay the tithe to stop attending or to find a new church.
Marijuana is disgusting. So is alcohol and any other drug.
I like Lady Gaga.
I hate surprise gifts/birthday parties/anything of that sort.
Newborn babies are, like, really freaking ugly.
I think assisted suicide should be legal.
I am interested in hearing about the royal family.
Jennifer Lawrence and her "adorkable" act is incredibly overrated.
I would rather go to KFC than a fancy restaurant.
Socialism is the way to go.
I hate it when couples tell everyone they're expecting a baby. I get that you're excited, but I'm not interested in hearing about how you plan on raising your kids.
I think Obama is a good president.
Frozen sucks.
I don't really like beards.
I think dad jokes are funny.
I believe in astrology.
I don't understand the hype over cosplay. Cool, you put on a costume.
I said might. I can't say for certain if I would support it if someone said it could actually happen. But you're right, we treat criminals as savage write-offs until they die. We can't expect them to abide by the law if we make them hate us.

Could you expand on this a bit? Do you believe in Marxism-Leninism or Social Democracy? I take issue with the first one, but not the second. Not sure about where you live, but I'm hoping that Bernie's campaign kickstarts a left-wing answer to the tea party. (Hopefully one that doesn't fail miserably like occupy).
I think Obama is a good president.
He's certainly better than Bush, but I wouldn't consider the improvement very drastic. He would've been a much better POTUS if he hadn't waited to grow a spine until he was a lame-duck president.

Season 3 should be the last season of TWD. I love this series, but we have already 2 seasons, 1 DLC, 1 upcoming Mini-series and S3 coming probably next year, so in my opinion that's enough.
Oh, and I wanna see Clementine in S3, I don't care if they try a new 'angle' or something, maybe playing as another character, as long as they finish her arc with a decent ending, it's fine by me.
I like pop music and I think some artists considered untalented are in fact very talented.
Uncle Grandpa is the worst cartoon I've ever seen in my entire life.
Halo never caught my attention. I tried to play Halo 4 but I got bored after 10 mins of gameplay. Then I tried to play it for 20 more minutes. And I was still bored.
I'm actually looking forward to playing Minecraft: Story Mode.
Despite the first two episodes of Life Is Strange being focused on high school drama and character development, I think LiS is better than both GOT and TFTB. Especially after episode 4, which was a GREAT episode.
I prefer TFTB over GOT, but GOT is not as bad as everyone says. I just try to forget the traitor scene.
I LOVE nuts in brownies.
I know this is a cultural thing, but brunch sounds like bullshit to me.
Here's mine.

Lady Gaga, for example. She can be a bit ''exaggerated'' sometimes, but she's a great singer/songwriter/producer in my opinion. I'll link a video if you wanna hear her singing.
I consider myself more of a social democrat. Nothing good ever comes with extremist leaders, so there has to be a good mix. I live in Canada but I definitely support Sanders and what he stands for. America could use a man like him.

Sure thing. I believe that physician-assisted suicide should be legal because it provides a gateway that is more humane than letting patients disabled by terminal illnesses or severe brain injuries suffer in pain or with cognitive impairments. I think that it is not fair to deny a person to make the decision to end their own life, when in the USA civilians have the right to bear arms which often leads to untimely and unwanted deaths of thousands per year. Also, keeping terminally ill patients alive when they have no desire to live is a waste of resources and money that could be used to help treat patients who are able to be treated. I believe it should be up to the patient to decide if they want to live or die. I know if I was severely brain damaged and unable to even move a finger, I would want to be let go.
I think assisted suicide should be legal.
If you don't mind could you explain your reasons?
I don't understand the hype over cosplay. Cool, you put on a costume.
I totally agree with this. People hype it up too much.
Generally between 50 and 60% of gun deaths in the US per year are suicides, so in this instance guns are helping people circumvent the unfairness of being denied the decision to end their own life.
If you don't mind could you explain your reasons?

Oh, now I understand, you mean assisted suicide for teminally ill people, I agree with this. If the person doesn't want to live on life support without being able to do anything, then it should be their choice if they want to end it. I'd still feel bad if I was the one assisting though, it would just feel like you'd have their own blood on your hands, even if they wanted it.
I thought you meant assisted suicide as a whole, which I don't see why that should be legal.
If you don't mind could you explain your reasons?

I guess I should have made it more clear. Just medically-assisted. I find it very cruel to force someone through life and pain when death can be seen at the end of the tunnel regardless.

Lmao, do you wanna start a war on this forum? :P
Oh, it sure does. For example, after WW1.
Oh, wait.
World War II is the obvious exception.
A more contemporary example would by Syria or Libya.
I'm just saying that an unjust peace may stop a war, but it can also not only fail to be a long-term solution, but become a catalyst for something even worse.

I see. Well, if they want to be so ignorant, I guess it is their loss
Unfortunately, it's society's loss as well.
Exactly my point.

I think that is reasonable. As some have tried to point out many times before, they are not assault rifles, after all.
Neither is an AR-15. Assault Rifle = Selective fire rifle that fires an intermediate cartridge.

Yeah, definitely not.
The ban was riddled with loop-holes.
Just so long as stronger restrictions are imposed upon weapons based upon their catagory, This could still be legal (albeit very difficult to obtain).
Exactly my point. The ban represented a complete lack of understanding about guns and gun violence.
I prefer cash, but accept cards.
World War 2 is a perfect example of this.
If it were the worst criminals imaginable, then I might understand. But it's still savage and cruel.
If they wanna barf out hate speech, then fine. But taxpayers shouldn't have to fund it.
But are taxpayers funding it? If the church is using the money they receive from tithes to carry out these events, then it's up to the people that pay the tithe to stop attending or to find a new church.
It's abhorrent and goes against the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Of course criminals are already treated like animals in U.S. prisons.
Agreed.
