  • Well, after seeing it a second time, I must change my opinion. I think nostalgia kind of blinded me the first time, but objectively it is a pretty awesome movie, and I'm really looking forward to Ep 8. Rey is my favorite female character of the whole saga, too.

That reminds me of a ROTJ parody:

    LUKE: Yoda spoke of another...

OBI-WAN: The other he spoke of is your twin sister.

    LUKE: Sister? You mean Leia!

OBI-WAN: Your instincts serve you well.

LUKE: That, and she's the only girl in all these movies!

Not really true, but points out that there isn't a whole lot of competition for best female Star Wars character. :)

  • True that, but Leia and Padme are pretty good characters, too. There're also other great females in other media such like the comics. Jaina Solo, for example, which I think Rey is based on (even though I think Rey is a Skywalker), same as Darth Caedus/Jacen Solo with Kylo Ren/Ben Solo.

  • Padme was more like a walking fashion show.

I finally got a chance to see it, and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I have a few cons i'll list, but keep in mind everything else is nothing but positivity:

    • Music. We heard a few old themes occasionally which was really great...but the newer themes of the actual movie were kind of washed out in the background which saddened me a bit...a big part of Star Wars is it's score, and it had no real 'theme' that would recur, or any pieces that really blew me away.
    • Kylo Ren should never have revealed his face. For some reason, I also didn't like the actor. He wasn't very threatening (with mask off), and when he removed the mask it sort of removed the fear built up around his character. Removing the mask for the first time should have been saved for the face-off with Han imo. Would have had a much greater impact.
    • Daisy Ridley and John Boyega did do a great job...but I felt they were too into character at times, even a bit cheesy. Their dialogue felt really forced and over the top occasionally...but overall, still played their respective parts very well for their first time playing a main lead on the big screen. Awesome characters too...Rey is just too awesome.
    • It did kinda feel like Episode IV. I have to admit, same sort of storyline but I laughed at the quips between Han and Leia when they realised "it's just a bigger Death Star", they'd have to destroy the shield again, then the main component to destroying the First Order's super weapon/upgraded death star thingo. 'Just like old times'. But yeah, all in all, great movie and i'm super excited to see how the next ones turn out. I don't know why but I found this to be super sad also, and no, Han Solo dying wasn't the only reason. There was something so epic about this movie that was sad at the same time. Even just small things like Rey learning how to use the Force just really hit me for some reason. Although short, the Republic being destroyed was just devastating also. I think I feel the same way the OP does, because it was also pretty funny. The visuals were also spectacular.
Anyway, I could go on but it'd get too long. The sequel trilogy looks to be in good hands...and i'll be going to see this a second time very shortly.

    Seriously this theory is weird.

  • Jar Jar was a big reason for a lot people to hate Star Wars the Phantom Menance (through no the only reason the are lot of things that are wrong with the presqucals). However even through Star Wars films are in other people's hands and no in George Lucus and the new films are set after the original trilidge's timeline, meaning Jar Jar would be long since dead, even through this is a factor when Star wars 7 was first release this throiey come appeared on the internet. almost like people WANT Jar Jar comeback for real.

  • But why do people dislike Jar Jar Binks so much? Also in terms of theories, people are always constantly making new ones, I think some people would've liked to see Jar Jar, but I don't think many people would expect him to return, he hasn't really been seen since the end of the Prequel Trilogy.

  • Thinking more about it, I am starting to like Kylo Ren for his potential. Although I will still forever hate him for what he did.

  • Any actual proof of that though?

  • He's far from the only one, allot of people actually like Kylo Ren since he's not like allot of the Sith, he has temper tantrums and gets mad when things don't go his way, some people, including me, like that he feels more human.

  • I LOVED it with all my heart. It was an amazing movie.

  • At first I was disappointed that he revealed his face. But it gave him more character and I know that there is a human behind the mask.

  • I have never seen any of the Star Wars films before that one. Now Ive seen that, and the first two prequels. But Ive only watching them with Rifftrax.

  • Just watched it 6/10 meh...

  • As a new fan, I really enjoyed it. I thought it was a lot of fun.

  • I'd give it a 8/10. Seriously great movie, loved it, I had a few issues with the plot at points but they're mostly small.

My favorite part was the reveal of Darth what's his name. Who let a Jonas Brother be a sith?

  • You guys should also watch out for Rogue One and the Han Solo movie!

  • I was very satisfied with it. I'm certainly looking forward to the future movies.

On another note, I really hope Obi-Wan gets a movie. A "Seven Samurai" style film with Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan is something I need in my life.

  • omg yes! I'd kill for a chance to see that movie :D

  • If there is a new movie about Obi-Wan, I definitely want him to be played by Ewan McGregor.

  • Saw it a while back 7/10 decent movie, doesn't do anything original and takes the easy routs to please the biggest possible crowd without a risky move. I don't get the hype most star wars films where kinda stupid apart from Empire Strikes Back which is a masterpeace.

  • Seems like a good strategy to me. Appeal to as many people as you can, get the newbies acclimated to the story and characters, set things up for the next film, then have that one take the risks.
