Are these forums still fun to be around? (for old timers mostly)
I joined TTG forums around mid of 2014 when TWAU was in full throttle and so was TWDs2. There were only like 2 active sections but they were really entertaining with good threads. There was thumbs down option too which wasnt too bad. Lately i havent played too many TTG games but still have this habit of open 3 tabs (facebook, mail and ttg) even though most of the time i have no idea why i opened ttg tab (sometimes i wish, i see a thread in TWAU section which says "TWAU S2 ANNOUNCED" maybe thats the reason). Anyone else feels like they come here because of old habit and not because they enjoy it here?

I like being here because it's fun to create unnecessary threads and post useless comments
No.
Not really. But I still come to this forum almost everyday because I like to.
I only stick around because it's become a habit to visit the forums at least once a day.
It's actually pretty painful to come here nowadays.
Same.
I wouldn't call myself an "old timer" but comparing my experience from around the time I joined to now... I wouldn't necessarily call it "boring" but the forum has kind of died down in activity for a while now, it's not nearly as active now as it was during those times. Which, I guess has made the experience a lot less enjoyable, I definitely don't post as often as I did before.
I'm not an old time user (I lurked more before becoming a user myself) but I can, at least, say I know how it feels to be one on a forum and watching it die out (aka. VO.net) There's not a lot of activity here, so I find myself refreshing the page every 10 mins or so, waiting for someone to start a topic or reply to a topic I'm interested in.
There's only a few days of difference between me and this guy, I created this account in June 2014
Because of the cringe?
Not disagreeing with you, but why?
Oh my god.
The stupid threads, the rude users, the repetition, the user circlejerk, etc... You know, shit that imo make the experience pretty bad in comparison.
Also that.
But he's asking the question to people that came before TFTBL.
June 2014 is before TFTB
Yeah, you're right.
My definition of old timer is anyone who has been here for like 2 years or more.
June is before November, you know?
I'm just waiting for things to pick up when The Walking Dead S3 comes out. Michonne might engender some interesting conversation, but I'm broke a fuck right now and can't spend the money on it, so I'm staying away from that forum.
General talk is random quizzes/youtube/move question occassionally interspersed with a specific political question posed by a certain member, which is all good fun until the ban-hammer reigns down. God forbid people actually talk about things.
So people who joined during/after Season 1 of Walking Dead are old timers now, huh?
While my account isn't as old as yours, I'm a pretty old follower of Telltale Games (probably since 2011), I didn't start stalking this forum though until mid 2014 and decided to make an account as soon as I started playing TFTBL (which was on 20 Feb 2015 as you can see above). Now to address your issue, I think it's because most of us who joined Telltale wanted to follow a single or multiple games that Telltale was releasing at the time, so after they concluded, everyone just went back to their businesses and carried on with their lives, and only left behind the truly faithful fans like you and me. In my experience for example: When I first joined the TFTBL fandom, the game was still fresh. The infamous "Rhysha VS Rhyiona" war at the time was still fresh and fun, new artwork, fanfics and other contributions were being posted daily, but after the conclusion of the game everyone just went back to where they came from leaving some of us here.
I only visit this place nowadays because of the friendships that I made in the past with other member, so if they were to leave anytime soon I would leave too. And to be honest, with all the problems that the forums are facing right now, this site is still better than most places on the Internet now.
In all seriousness the only reason I come here is for quick and easy access to recent news and the occasional thread that intrigues me. I definitely don't come here because I want to be apart of all the "wonderful" shipping threads (tbh Asher X Random Soldier #167 is the only one that matters) or to hear all the recent dank memes.
If they're the old timers, then before them are like ancient dinosaurs.
That's a reference. Not intended, but a reference nonetheless.
Yeah, I feel you.
same.
I'm broke as fuck for the next couple months. Avoid TWD section like a plague.
Oh please dont divert away from topic, just stick to whatever you understand and no need to be extra smart. If this word is bothering you so much just ignore it, as i said its for anyone who has been here for like 2 years.
I think it probably has to do with Telltale's only current series being the Michonne miniseries (which made some people disappointed at the lack of Clem) and Minecraft (younger fanbase that probably is not as active), so they don't feel as much of an incentive to come back. The forums were pretty active during Thrones and Borderlands, but each franchise brings a different flavor of fans in addition to those like myself who stick around and try out different things from Telltale.
When Batman and Season 3 of Walking Dead are in the spotlight, I think things will be more active.
With Telltale moving towards four games a year, that's gonna suck for people trying to catch up.
I joined the forums back in 2009 when I was just a fan who wanted to chime in on a Q&A about Puzzle Agent (I'd been lurking since, like, 07). It's really interesting to see how much things have changed since then (especially now being on the "Staff" side of the wall).
Back then there was a lot of crossover between here and the Mixnmojo Lucas fan forums and so most of the fanbase was Lucasarts/classic adventure game fans. Now, because Telltale's recent output has been reaching a lot more people it seems like the demographic and interests of the forums are waaay wider.
Edit: I think something that's definitely impacted the forums in the last few years is the real rise of Tumblr and Reddit - it seems like those have absorbed a lot of 'traditional' fan message board-type folks. The amount of fanfiction and fanart for Telltale's stuff on tumblr, for instance, is unreal. Crazy to see.
Old-timer is subjective here, but I've been around for about two years now. Joined at the height of TWD Season 2. There were lots of good discussions, as well as excitement and drama. Forum had a lot more people.
It's two years later and I'm no longer that interested in TWD. I played the other Telltale series and loved them, but never really fit in or interacted with those communities. The new games in particular seemed to have communities mostly based upon shipping, which doesn't interest me that much (Team Rhysha though). A lot of the people I knew from the early days don't post anymore, but I still stick around for Off-Topic. There's still users I can rely upon for intellectually stimulating discussions and other entertaining stuff. It's not the same as the "old days", but it's still okay.
It's interesting to note that Telltale Talk was pretty much dead when I joined. The section was fully separated and you couldn't see Telltale Talk posts on the main page, which made traffic pretty limited. Maybe a month or two after I joined, some users, including me, asked for TTT to show up on the main page and the devs made it happen, which was pretty cool. So, even though activity here peaked about a year ago, this section is still more lively than it was when I first joined.
It's been really neat to watch Telltale grow from having a niche presence to being so big right now. I also lurked fairly early on (since like 2008), and signed up around 2011 or so to post some iOS backgrounds for Poker Night 1. Even then, I mostly lurked, but I eventually staring post more and even became a mod around December 2013 which is neat.
For you, how does it feel to work at Telltale now that they are so big, when you had previously followed them during their more niche games?
Yeah, I don't necessarily dislike shipping threads but I also feel that threads like those kinda eclipse other threads where people actually have normal discussions.
I've noticed that discussions are focused a lot more around memes/jokes/etc instead of, well, normal discussions. I don't mind memes or anything, but I do wish people would focus more on normal discussions too.
This is just kinda food for thought in general, but do you guys think having Telltale Talk at the top of the forums would help bring in more lively discussion? It actually was at the top of the forums for a while when this current version of the forums launched in September 2013, but I think Telltale moved it down around that Winter.
I actually don't have a problem with that.
Yeah, I really miss the deep philosophical discussions in TWD section. Like it or hate it, Season 2 gave us a lot of interesting opportunities to discuss things like morality and other deep subjects,
Just working at Telltale is pretty surreal sometimes - I used to watch all of these behind the scenes videos with folks like Mark Darin or Dave Grossman and now I've actually gotten to make games with those guys and the rest of the ludicrously-talented team, which is nuts.
I was lucky enough to show up in 2013 a few months before Wolf came out, so TTG was just starting to grow and explode post-Walking Dead - Being there for that transition has been amazing to watch. Getting to see Batman (frigging BATMAN?!) on people's screens? So cool. Of course, with all of those huge new amazing IPs comes the need for more secrecy, so there are fewer fun behind the scenes videos and stuff like that than when I was just a fan, which is a bit of a bummer, but that's the nature of the entertainment business!
I wouldn't even go as far as to say it was Walking Dead's heavy choices that prompted interesting discussion - I think that, just in general, people on the forums kinda shifted in general towards using mainly memes for discussion for whatever reason.
Not really lately. Especially when there's a drought and Telltale don't release anything for a few good few months it gets downright boring since there's nothing to talk about. You'll find a worthwhile post with interesting and intelligent conversation but that seems more rare by the day. There's people on the forums you like and some ya don't. Always interesting to hear what people think though (even if it does sound ridiculous at times. cough Lee's still alive theorists cough
