Almost 40 animated productions spanning most of anime's entire history, and literally all of it's important years, really is the backbone of the anime boom of the 1980s with 3 of it's TV series winning a lot of awards at the time. It helped helped set the foundation for modern anime that we know of today. It's been argued it's the most influential anime franchise of all time. To understand anime today one must be part of Gundam.
Gundam is like the Mauser Gewehr 98 of anime. Like the Mauser it revolutionized everything, and then everything wanted to be Gundam, and you saw this huge Mech boom of the 1980s which even leaked out of Japan. Likely wouldn't be ATATs in Star Wars if it wasn't for Gundam, no Transformers, no Mech Warrior. When it comes to serious story telling, just imagine a world without Cowboy Bebop? Ghost in the Shell?
Countless others may have never been created if it wasn't for Gundam launched the "Real" Mech genre which proved anime TV shows can be serious productions with serious stories, and hard themes, with war against enemies who were often not bad people, just the enemy, let alone it's effects on the cast. Heck I know Cowboy Bebop likely wouldn't exist as much of the staff who made it worked on Sunrise Inc's Gundam OVA and Movies during the late 80s and 90s. Where do you think they got their expertise and practice for making a believable Scifi Space Universe? Minus the giant robots of course.
Oh the fanboy comes out big time. It may of not been the first at any one thing, but there is literally a line in anime, before Gundam, and after Gundam, where anime literally changed.
Fun fact. During production for the english dub, they found the script and story to be so terrible that they just told the voice actors to do whatever.

Because it's bloody Yukari perfect Girl hands down. She sees a tank she has to hug it and make a historical comment about it. She likely has a large Tank Shell Plushy in her bed as well, I wouldn't be surprised. She is a stalker, she is a spy, she loves tanks, and she has an epic lol personality combined with one heck of a unique anime voice, just something odd about it, it's like on a different tune from other female cast in anime. Worse yet she is so nerdy that her hair is almost always in shambles so it's just a big puffy blob. Perfect Girl hands down. =D

From the best anime ever. Because no other anime would work with Beethoven quite like this one. Well accept for Read or Die but that is for another day. Yukari honestly stole the show really, funny that this video they make it look and sound like Yukari is whistling Beethoven. I bet she would of if she had the idea, that is what makes this video so epic. lol
Just watched Steins;Gate episode 1 & 2. It's interesting so far. The main character is quite, well... eccentric mad scientist guy. Remains to be seen if I will carry on, only a few more episodes and I'll know

I would definitely recommend it, it's by far my favourite shounen.
Keep in mind that it only has two seasons and there's no third one in sight so you might wanna continue from the manga once you reach the anime's end.
