Ep 5: Find out where HV is.

When I go to the clay oven I can't move and yet I've already put the mop on the cactus noutside of Edna's house. Help?

    dont remember but click on clay oven and after that pick up flamed wood

    I'm stuck at this same spot, also not seeing a hat anywhere, I've been over the whole area!

    I guess I must be blind??

    I've got the mop on the cactus the saloon sign on the outhouse and the hat on the cactus as well but i dont remember picking up the hat anyways even though it IS on the cactus. Tried giving stick on fire to edna but she just freaks out and doc says dont break the trance. Another bug yet again?

    Hmmm, Definitely no hat or anything on top of the stop sign for me >.<

    I'll try going from and older save or something, failing that start again...

    Yeah, no hat on the stop sign for me, either.

    I tried an earlier save, no hat on the stop sign.

    I reaaaallly don't want to start again from the beginning... at least today.

    ok have hat and mop on the cactus, saloon sign on the outhouse door how do you simulate the time jump? i can't move around with the flaming stick when you get it out of the clay oven and i don't see a way to click the stick on any of the delorean parts that are part of the trip wire. so what are you supposed to do after you get everything set up and edna is sitting in the burned out delorean behind the steering wheel?

    Click on the tripwire, the clashing metal will simulate the time jump.

But anytime I try to give the burning stick to Edna or use it with the outhouse, Edna goes nuts. When I talk to the cactus, Edna only tells me (or Danny, didn't really get it) not to speak with him (or me).

    I've gotten all the way to this point in the game only to find there is no hat anywhere that I can see. I've even taken to pixel hunting the entire scene. Could anyone share a save game from this point where the hat is showing up?

    this correct actions for passing this:

    - knock to door (you activate tripwire)
    - knock to door again. tell to Edna you be today together
    - knock again and tell Edna you borough some to her and then click to Doc
    - when Edna go out, she put down Hat and put him on STOP sign.
    - tell Doc word Shnookums
    - use recording device (flowers) on Edna
    - when Edna enter in burned DeLorean, use Tripwire
    - use Mop and Hat on cactus
    - put Saloon sign on Outhouse
    - click on Clay Oven and give burning wood to Edna

    Thanks dxdy but where's the flower pot with the recording device on it. It's not in my inventory and I can't pick up either of the two pots the tripwire is attached to so they musn't be it...

    That's what I thought I needed but I can't see it in my inventory. Maybe it's a bug and I have to start again...?

    I encountered a bug in this area too. after putting the mop on the cactus and it was time to trigger the 'grandpa' memory, i didn't have the hat in my inventory but i clicked on the cactus again and the hat magically appeared on the cactus but Edna said it doesn't look right.

    at this point i think you're supposed to pick up the hat from the wooden post where Edna leaves it after coming out the house. well it was on the cactus now so when i clicked it from on top the cactus, suddenly the animation played of Marty picking up the hat from the wooden post and placing it on the cactus, which then triggers Edna's memory of her grandpa.

    this is the third bug i've encountered this episode!

    To clear things up:
    The hat will NOT be there to start with.

    You must talk to Edna (via the tripwire) about things that happened today/in her past until you get to show her something.
    Then you can show her Doc as "Emmet Brown" to get her to come outside.
    Using the flowerpot on her then starts the flashback trance, the trance then has several stages:
    1) The mop head from near the outhouse on the cactus becomes officer parker to move on 1 stage.
    2) Once in the delorean the tripwire simulates a time jump making her get out of the car
    3) At this point grabbing edna's hat (she takes it off when she comes outside) and adding to the cactus becomes her grandfather and moves you on to the tannen story.
    4) Then outhouse sign on the outhouse prompts recalling tannens saloon.
    5) Searching the clay oven to get the burning stick and using it on the outhouse prompts recalling burning the saloon down and the info you need to know.

    Thanks, now I know what went wrong. After getting Edna to confess at the Expo, I put the recording device back in the phone booth to try out something and didn't pick it up again. Seems to me like I'm stuck at this point. Hill Valley - and therefore the Expo - is gone by now hence getting back there might be a bit difficult. :-)

    Looks like a beginner's mistake in riddle-design to me. The story should never be able to proceed without the character carrying all needed items. :-(

    Once Edna comes out grab her hat by the door. She'll talk about repressed memories and you'll have to recreate exactly what happened in 1931 at her house.

    I got the same bug - Clicked on the cactus and it automatically put the hat on without me having picked it up. Now I can't progress because Edna is technically seeing a hat-less cactus.

    Anyone have a Mac save for this part of the game or know of a workaround/patch?

    Never mind. Found an auto-save from the beginning of the scene. All sorted and finished now. :) Cool ending.

    Maybe they're training for the King's Quest game, with all those Sierra-style dead ends...

    Had the same problem on PC but somehow got around it... not sure but maybe I clicked on the spot that the hat was supposed to be on (fence)??

    use my save position...

    hat is on top of STOP sign... Edna put hat there when go out from house to see Emmet...
