What's the point in having an open beta for a site if the developer doesn't take any advice?

I'm just sayin'...

  • They fixed the multiple items of certain one-time purchase items in the basket thingy! I think...

  • Unfortunately, it seems in retrospect like the beta was more of a stress test than anything else. I do see some minor improvements but I agree there are some glaring oversights as well like a working mobile version.

  • Well I am not sure if being apart of the stress test was a good thing or not.

  • They did add the "new comment" button, but that doesn't work, so I dunno.

You know, I feel that this new forum has really brought us together as a community, though. Mutual hatred of the same thing is the strongest bonding tool there is. Makes me almost wish that one dude who made the Guru-hating forum that I broke was still around. We could all go there and have meaningful discussions and I could try to not spam things with seven different accounts.

  • This new and "improved" design is like a cheap, clunky version of the Instagram commenting system.

Doesn't seem like they cared too much about the previous feedback. :-(

I hope they change the way this forum is set up. There are many good people who have been regulars, and many are not going to stick around. Kinds sad.

  • I know, hell I am trying to get my friends to join a brand new forum, it really sucks.

I shed a single, manly tear at the death of all hope for a Sam & Max Season 3 Soundtrack when I saw there was no "Shop" button.

EDIT: Also, I'm not buying Fables from this site if there's no DVD; and it ain't lookin' too good as far as that goes. Sorry, Telltale, but that's really the last straw for me.

  • From the looks of it physical items are gone completely. Hell it looks like all but the games are gone and that's the future.

So it's looking like there will be exactly no benefits for being a loyal Telltale customer. But then what else is new with this company these days.

  • Well, I can say they are still not EA or Actvision.

  • But it's almost at the point that they may as well be, for the crap they give for their customer base (other than the money that could be spent).

Well, I can say they are still not EA or Actvision.

  • The point was to cynically use the beta testers as mechanical guinea pigs, making sure all the buttons work in various browsers and other mundane shit. Actual INPUT beyond bug-testing was about as valuable to Telltale as a week-old bag of crap.

  • Don't you just love that when company's do that, because I sure don't.

  • This whole thing is rather upsetting to me. I haven't been here very long, but I know many of you guys have. You guys have built such a wonderful community here and have, in many cases, also been loyal Telltale fans. To see Telltale basically uproot this forum and basically ignore the feedback of longtime users is really disappointing. What were the problems posed by the previous forum that needed fixing? Could they not have been fixed while at the same time providing a new but familiar experience (and one that actually works well)?

Is this really the best they could come up with?

It seems like the designers of this "new" forum were not ever users of the forum and were neither familiar with nor concerned about what regular forum users wanted.

  • Seems like it, it has no rhyme or reason, if someone can explain why then I am okay with it, but that feels unlikely.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. I absolutely love the new commenting system...it's like a shitty version of the Miiverse.

and apparently I'm still a moderator.

The fact that the word "forum" has been completely eliminated from the website and replaced with "community" is unfortunately quite telling. A "forum" is a place designed for people to gather to express their ideas and opinions. A "community" is just a collection of people who happen to be in the same place. And this collection appears to be dwindling by the second.

  • Honestly, I wouldn't be as upset about it as I am if Kevin Bruner hadn't told me to my face at PAX last year that he was looking forward to the mod team's input on the new site. We weren't listened to on anything. Ordinarily I wouldn't discuss it so openly, but after the clusterfuck that is the launch of this site, I just don't care anymore.

    God, I miss vBulletin.

  • Yeah, what's up with that? You quit.

  • Kickstarter, protest, March on Telltale, I am up for all of those.

  • I just find it ironic, because this new posting style is the best way to destroy the community that I can think of.

  • I would go on strike but knowing myself, I would stop the moment Wolf Among Us and Season 2 come out.

  • The moderators here are very passionate and take part in the discussions. You all have been really incredible, and I think the forum regulars really respect you guys. Given the great work performance you all have shown, I think you absolutely deserved to be heard out and taken seriously. The success of the forum here has been due in part to the high quality moderators. You guys know better than anyone what would work and what wouldn't.

I am hopeful that changes to this forum can be made. The web team can't be that detached from the users, can they?

I just took a screenshot of how this looks on my iPhone, but I can't figure out how to upload it. Imagine not being able to zoom out to see the whole box you're typing in. It's ridiculous how difficult it is to post now with my phone now.

  • Thanks for shedding some positive thoughts, Peak. I so hope that the forum (not named a forum) could be somehow rectified. However, I'm afraid too much is broken on purpose. Possibly the only solution to the new forum would be a new forum. :(

  • Ok, now I feel bad because I just left a not so positive post in another thread. Getting frustrated here.

Yes, I am hopeful things can be rectified.

I feel bad about all this, not so much because I know you all and have interacted with you for a long time (and let's face it, half my posts here have been kinda bitchy) , but because I saw that this is a special forum with special people. It was always fun seeing all your signatures and seeing the intelligent discussions and learning about new games.

The truth is this new forum is crap. I'm just being straight here. It is so not conducive to fostering what had been established before.

  • To be fair, "beta testing" is about finding bugs. If it were about feedback it would have been "focus testing."
