  • Fair enough, I hadn't realised that. I guess you'd have to have a separate email just for the TTG account then in that case, which I'm sure would be a step too far for most people just for the sake of an avatar! Hopefully this is something that TTG will rectify, though their decision to use Gravatar in the first place probably speaks to their intentions.

Gravatar needs to use the same email address as the one tied to your TTG account to work (or is it vice versa?), so a throwaway email would be pointless.

I already considered that option, but decided against it. It's just one more thing to worry about.
If Gravatar offered fine grained controls over which domains have access to which Avatar, it might be a little less problematic, but that wouldn't change the fact that another third party would have my E-Mail Addresses and would know which websites I use.

TTG at least lets you choose if you want to use Gravatar, but some other developers implement it in a different way. They just calculate the md5 hash of the E-Mail address and use it with Gravatar without asking you. I noticed that with sourceforge.
That way Gravatar could even track users that don't have a Gravatar account and have never agreed to use Gravatar, if they collected their E-Mail Addresses any other way.

  • yeah, I hated it for one reason, you guys lost my game. Ive been playing the walking dead since june, and a few days ago when I tried to play it said that my tellltale account didnt have a license for the game. I figured it was a conection problem that had happened before, so Ieft for a few. today I tried to play again, and no luck. I went to my e-mail account, got to my confirmation message and clicked the links they have there for my account. alas, it was a broken link. so I came here, logged in and, surprise, surprise, theres no record of me ever buying the game! thats absurd! I want to know what you guys are going to do about this. I have my order ID and everything, but theres no reason that shouldve happened in any case.

  • That is so true, it's not even funny any more.

gravatar having your email address would mean that they can monitor your presence in many other places you're leaving your email address, especially blog comments. Mr Snowden should have shown even to the people in his home country that this kind of privacy loss just isn't desirable any more.

BTW, with the 'standard' avatar the forum gives to members, the cutout part in the top menu looks like a hairy crotch silhouette. Just sayin'. ;)

I always thought that this was absolutely unacceptable. Telltale's digital releases always had a one time online activation and nothing else. There is no way the game could 'reconsider' the activation upon going online. That just shouldn't be possible with what Telltale always said its episodes do DRM wise. That's a major thing for Telltale to reconsider and retrace their steps on.

  • Any way of making lejetwerkeng SHUT UP?

  • Not like that, no. I can't do an easy search for individual users any more, and when I find them, it's very hard to scan for things they could have done wrong. If you find something you think is offensive, you FLAG THE POST and give a good reason. That system, also, is pretty infunctional at the time, but there's at least the chance that it works.

Any way of making lejetwerkeng SHUT UP?

  • Who?

If someone's causing a problem, please Flag them (it's one of the disappearing/reappearing options in the top right of their posts) or try to start a Private Conversation with a mod (which is tricky since the notification that someone's trying to start a PC is lumped with all the other notifications and it can get buried, but give it a go anyway).

  • Okay, I found the lejetwerkeng guy. Six spam posts in the Poker Night forum. I hope this gets fixed IMMEDIATELY, but at the time moderators have to delete each spam post individually. Which is not only a pain in the ass, but prone to mistakes, and I believe deleted thread restoration won't be possible. So by all means, please report these spammers quickly. :( :(

But yeah, just to second Vain's comment - if you see a spambot, please report them ASAP. It's harder to spot them these days, so your help is much appreciated in nipping them in the bud.

I'm applying right now for Cinematic Artist, and I'm about to send my video. The problem is, I follow the link : http://www.telltalegames.com/company/jobs/upload/ and I don't know if this because of the new site, but it keeps me back on the listing job. So where do I have to upload my video, then ?

thank you for the answer because I have just 2 more days to send it after It will be too late :)

The email verification process is supposed to help prevent the bots. We'll be keeping an eye on spam volumes and can look into adding to that if necessary.

  • I don't know if it's just me but this thread in particular never loads correctly if I press the "x new comments" link.

  • I once thought a captcha was a good start as a protection. Then I experienced the Undreaming forums (which have about the hardest captcha possible). Once one spambot had breached the perimeter... thousands followed with no visible difficulties. No, literally, thousands. A captcha isn't worth anything for spam protection, sad to say. And indeed the spam level in the new forum right now is just about the same as it was in the old forums. sigh

Good to note! I expect spam may be an issue on some level pretty much regardless of the safeguards we implement, but improving the mod tools available to manage spam is definitely something we'll be working on as well.

Well, that gets you an upvote from me. ;)

I had that concern from minute one of the beta...

There are some communities in which the feature does no harm, though - as the members have chosen to forget about it altogether...

  • In the beta, they put your +/- "reputation" score right under your avatar, so it stood out even more. At least they got rid of that, or it really would have been a free-for-all. Now, I don't really notice it, but I did upvote this one.

  • Personally, the only "upvote/downvote" feature I've really enjoyed was on Roosterteeth, where the options were "Zing!" "Ditto" "WTF?" "n00b" and "FAIL" or something like that.

  • It looks really good, great improvement and can't wait for the Walking Dead season 2!
