Apes don't have tails, monkeys do. Both are primates.

So apes are things like humans, chimps, orangutans and bonobos, and monkeys include spider monkeys and tamarinds and all that.

As a non native English speaker, I'm not sure about the difference between ape and monkey. Could you clarify it for me? Couldn't it be The Planet of the Monkeys and Ape Island? Nah, it wouldn't sound good in either case.

By the way, in spanish we only have the word sirena for both sirens and mermaids.
    Apes = Simios
    Monkeys = Monos

With the exception on the Barbary Macaque? (The monkeys on the Rock of Gibraltar) That is a tailless monkey IIRC.

    Exception to every rule!

(Gibbons with no teeth are apes :))

On a semi-related, but possibly off-topic note, are there separate words for "monkey" and "ape" in French, or are they both referred to as "les singes?" It seems like that would get really confusing... Or do you differentiate between the two by saying something like "le singe avec queue" and "le singe sans queue?"

Apes in french are called "Anthropoïdes" or "Hominoïdés". No wonder we prefer to just call them "monkey" most of the time ^^

Also, spoilers.... but I'm seeing 2 images labeled as from "Chapter 2" on GameSpot that seem to be concept art for
an island?? and a shack of some kind.

    Hmm,
there seem to be a lot of maps in the artwork of the shack. Possible Wally return?:D

    Edit: Well...3 anyway:o

Maybe he was rescued by the merfolk after Guybrush forgot him inside the Rollercoaster of Death...

    Could well be the case:)

    Also note
the carefully plotted out map underneath the manatee. Seems like the work of either a certain cartographer or a treasure hunter/explorer. Could be either!

I'm probably reading too much into it but I hope
    it's Wally
    :D

Yep we usually only say "singe", if we want to get more precise we'll either say the actual species' name or resort to those complicated scientific words.
Just like mermaids and sirens, i don't think it's such an issue for translations purposes, as context usually makes up for the lack of precision, it just gets us confused about the differences between the english words mostly ;)
That being said, "Lîle aux singe" kinda sucks as a title  (they didn't translate the older games' titltes, thankully, but did when refering to the island)

Of course :) I believe you are correct!

As regards Chapter 2, that art is seriously cool-looking! Looks a lil darker too which could be interesting...

I guess the merpeople are the Vaycaylians? And maybe our mighty pirate hero will be able to talk to them with the flowers? Meaning a puzzle to steal the flower from Elaine after she and Guybrush have had a fight over her accepting it from LeChuck (once he escapes from mystery woman?).... hmm.. I bet it will be more complex than that :)

Was the giant monkey head build by mermaids? What is the governor hiding? Island 51? Atlantis? Is Monkey island a landing pad of the Anchients? Is that Stan's face on Mars? Find out in the next episode of TMI! :P

The concept art looks a lot like Runaway.

Speaking of mermaids, Bill Tiller drew a picture of a mermaid for CoMI intro, but it was not used in the end :

Interesting side fact of note: manatees, dugongs, and sea cows (now extinct) all belong to the order Sirenia.

you can even see the Vaycaylian City concept art on one of the islands in the north-west!:)

BTW, there was never a word about MerMAIDS?

They were also thought to be the basis for mermaid legends. And I see a manatee in the hut concept art...

Cool, thanks for making it clear to me. :-D

Everyday you learn something new. I even learnt English playing The Secret of Monkay Island! :-) And now I learn something in MI forum. MI should be declared an edutainment game!

Correct. These aren't spoilers as such, seeing as the Pillars and Voodoo Lady have already mentioned the Veycayan civilization.

ummm people talking about the hut picture being a possible return for wally (because of the maps in it), ...
didnt we already learn in chapter 1 that stans latest money maker was selling maps....??
    just a thought.

Interesting thought, but that location doesn't appear particularly stan-ish. The map seems more like something someone is using than something that's on sale.

True, but we also learnt that Stan had been selling those nifty palm sized bombs as well.

Unless he's selling a multitude of different things that tie in with each other in some way (Stan's Previously Owned Pirate Wares perhaps?) I don't think we've seen what Stan has to offer in TOMI.

Agreed. Stan would be on a well populated island with his neon sign flashing above his place:D

Anyway it could all easily be explained away by saying that the inhabitant of the shack is looking for treasure, trying to escape the island etc.

I just think it'd be a nice way of bringing Wally back:)

If you're wondering about the map, it's discussed here:
    http://www.telltalegames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10163

My guess is that this shack-thing belongs to Coronado da Cava. Voodoo Lady mentioned last seeing him there, and artwork looks uncannily similar to those ruins on two north-west islands (probably, they're Jerkbait Islands).

As far as we know, it may be a deserted mermaid town. :p

By the way, I always understood the voodoo kids mentionned in Curse of Monkey Island were the Voodoo Lady's children (mainly because she offers to show pictures of them to Guybrush, something you usually don't do if the kids are someone else's children). If this is the case, could Coronado be the father ? :p

Does anyone else get the feeling we're moving away from the secrets of the monkeys in TMI and heading more into the territory of the secrets of the mermen?

They could be Mersimians. Three-headed ones even!

I can not for the life of me figure out who this could be. It's obviously a woman though. The face resembles Carla's, but I still think it's Kate.

Also, for those who are interested, the new plot summary for episode 2 has been posted in the "Tales" section of the website.

Guybrush's adventures continue on the high seas as pox-plagued pirates lay siege to the innocent Mer-People. In between defending the Mer-People and dodging the persistent pirate hunter hot on his trail, Guybrush manages to catch up to his beloved wife and despised arch-nemesis -- but their reunion is short-lived. Now Guybrush must focus on eradicating the Pox of LeChuck before more harm can be done. And as the Mighty Pirate draws closer to a cure, the waters will only grow murkier in this thrilling chapter of the epic saga.
