Name and tell us about your favorite tv show. And why it's your favorite.

Probably my favorite tv shows has to be Early Edition. It was about a guy, who would get tomorrow's newspaper, and then who would proceed to run around the windy city of Chicago, and try to prevent bad things that were in it from happening.

He was a reluctant hero sorts, in that he wasn't necessarily a brave man, but he had a good heart and wanted to do right by people.

In the show, there was a level of decency, a level of humanity, that I have rarely ever seen in other TV shows. It's a shame that it only ran for four years!

How about you?

  • breaking bad for it's amazing plot

btw this early edition show is interesting, gotta check it out. thanks for mentioning

  • In all honesty, it's probably Avatar: The Last Airbender. The world they created, and all of its lore, was just so captivating and original.

While the story was a pretty typical set-up of a group of kids against a big bad, through good writing, it became so much more. The well-written and developed characters, the clever visual metaphors, the dark themes, the morals, and the little bits of comedy thrown in just made it so engaging. The show is a lot more clever with its themes than it lets on.

While it's by no means perfect, it's probably the best show I've ever watched. And re-watched...and re-watched...And re-watched. There are a lot of shows that are maybe subjectively better, but this is my favorite. I also have a "history" with it, so that also grants it some points. I have a lot of shows that I'm looking to check out, and they could possibly bump it down, but for now it stands boldly as number one.

  • While it's by no means the greatest show ever made, and it has several flaws (especially in the latest season), my favorite show is still The Walking Dead. Maybe it's because I'm just a huge fan of all things TWD related (comics, game, show, etc.), but there is still a lot I enjoy about the show on its own. Sure it may have a few bad, filler-type episodes, but when the show gets going, holy shit does it get going. And I guess you can say this about TWD in general, but unlike other zombie related forms of media, it's themes deal more with maintaining or losing our humanity and the internal struggles of the characters, rather than just the external struggles of living in this type of world. And for the most part, the show has gotten a lot better at this ever since Scott Gimple has taken over as showrunner after Glen Mazzara left.

  • Game of Thrones because of its great story and characters. It also has amazing action and drama.

  • Probably have to go with X-Files, particularly seasons 1-5. While there are some stinkers, overall it's odd, it's clever, it's thoughtful. Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose and Jose Chung's From Outer Space are still some of my favorite episodes from any series.

  • Steven universe and adventure time because I will always be a kid at heart and they make me happy, sometimes sad too.

A tie between The Walking Dead and The Get Down. Both have an excellent plot, characters and setting.
They're the only shows where i've jumped in my seat, screamed at the TV, or shed a tear for. No show has come close to these 2 (that i've seen so far).

    Ignore this, comment posted twice.

  • Once Upon A Time - I just love it, there's something that captivates me about this show - possibly because I love Fairy Tales, Myths, Supernaturals and Disney xD although I must admit that, whilst most of the fans of this show seem to view the first season as their least favorite, it is personally my favorite since it felt like something new. This is definitely my favorite show since it's the only show I've ever bought the copies of on disc and binge watched all night until I caught up xD

  • Second. Love those episodes as well. Add DPO, Beyond The Sea, and Pusher to the list for me. Some great performances there.

  • Game of Thrones cause of its story, its characters and mostly because that "not even a single character is safe" thing.

Plus I'm a huge fan of anything that is medieval related, but Game of Thrones is completely something else to me.

  • Game of Thrones. The first three to four Seasons fully did justice to the novels, with great casting and overall good acting. It also had good writing that contained the most vital parts of the story and actually left out some of the unnecessary or downright bad parts of the novels (e.g. Lady Stoneheart), while also adding some 'filler' scenes that would not have been possible for a POV character to witness and that were actually well written.

Season 5 was when it went downhill. They ruined Stannis, Dorne was not well done (though I didn't hate it as much as others did) and there was an overall sense of them rushing through scene after scene, leading to a rather incoherent end result. Hardhome was the only really memorable episode for me, and I'll never forgive HBO for ruining Stannis (not just in Season 5, before that too).

Season 6 was not as big of a disappointment as the previous year, but it was mostly sensational and 'in-the-moment' writing. Meaning that while watching you didn't realize how little sense many of the scenes made because they had a great score and/or brutal action. Rewatching makes this Season less enjoyable because there are many plotholes or stupid acting characters. But Season 5 didn't even have that 'in the moment' feel to it.

    To me, I would rank them 3 > 4 > 1 > 2 > 6 > 5

  • Breaking Bad, with Game of Thrones in second place.

I like a lot of other TV shows as well, but these are my main favorites.

I like Breaking Bad for it's story progressing, perfect casting choices, and also the way the series ended, though...the whole show lived up to it's potential!

As for Game of Thrones, I really love the nice fantasy setting, serious story, and other stuff like that. My favorite episode is Hardhome.

  • Vikings! The story and acting are amazing, soundtrack too. It has such a brilliant mixture of family values, betrayal, relationship, religion and more. And you get to know a bit about their culture.

  • Definitely! Pusher especially. Duane Barry, too, just glued me in a similar way. Really great performances in those eps.

I sometimes think about how they originally planned to end the series, too-- and wouldn't that have been something? Then again, we might not have gotten Bad Blood, so...

  • South Park. This would be because I don't have the patience to follow a "serious" plot and I definitely enjoy the political and social commentary.

  • Revolution. I thought it had a really good plot and well-written and well acted characters. It was a damn shame that it was cancelled.

  • Monty Python (A "killer" bunny and silly walks? Who wouldn't laugh to that?), Tom and Jerry (The oldest and funniest cartoon ever), and Lethal Weapon (Riggs! You crazy son of a...).

  • The Walking Dead, it may not be like for like but it brings my favourite comic to life in it's own way. I love it.

Rick, Michonne and Carl have been favourites for me. Well done to the actors.

  • Doctor Who. Anywhere in time and space, everything that ever was or will be. As show concepts go...it gives itself a lot of room to bring stories to the fans. Oh and the main character instead of dying regenerates....that is a new actor takes over the roll of the Doctor...keeping the show fresh.

  • True.

"not even a single character is safe" 'cept Jon Snow

  • game of thrones - because its an epic fantasy adventure that has fantastic characters.

Supernatural - because its epic supernatural horror, a tale about two brothers the bond they share and both have gone to crazzy lengths to save each other and the world.

the walking dead - a tale about hard survivors and annorying cliffhangers - geez that one with Negan was soooo annorying

american horror story - each season is like short story with new characters and a different location. the horror elements creep me out and the story captcher me i love it.

  • not even a single character is safe

    except Dany

    except le funny dwarf

    except Arya

  • Probably Hannibal. The first season asks you to take some times to start but once you're in it's pure joy to watch. Aesthetic as fuck. Good story telling. God tier actors (Mads Mikkelsen, Michael Pitt, Richard Armitage..) An actual awesome adaptation, which is rare.

Also I don't know if you watched it @KennyLee, but there's Lost as a series which got a good vibe of feelings, among others things humanity is kinda a reccuring theme. Maybe you should try it.

  • Looney Tunes were around long before Tom and Jerry.

Monty Python (A "killer" bunny and silly walks? Who wouldn't laugh to that?), Tom and Jerry (The oldest and funniest cartoon ever), and Lethal Weapon (Riggs! You crazy son of a...).

  • I'm not sure if it counts, but... Bojack Horseman is my favorite TV show, and my favorite piece of media of all time. It technically isn't a TV show, but I count it as such considering it is a show and I watch it on my TV. I wouldn't be able to explain why it's fucking amazing without spoiling it, so yeah.

  • They were?

  • Agreed, it's lasted over fifty years with one of the greatest premises ever, and when you're like me and love all the Doctors and Companions equally (well maybe a couple more than others sine I have a fondness for the Third, Fifth and Tenth Doctors, and Sarah Jane, Romana, Nyssa and Amy for the lovely ladies) there's so much to see and enjoy, never mind all the expanded stuff like the books, Big Finish Audios, games and more. Alongside Marvel it's definitely my fav fandom.

I would say Doctor Who as above, but recently I've gotten into Person of Interest, which is a great show. As Harold Finch/Michael Emerson (Ben from LOST) puts it well, "You are being watched. There is a machine which spies on us every hour of every day. I designed the machine to detect acts of terror but it sees everything. Violent crimes involving people like you. The government considers these crimes 'irrelevant'. We don't. Hunted by the authorities, we work in secret. You will never find us, but Victim or Perpetrator, if your number's up, we'll find YOU."

I haven't watched the final season yet but there's a great range of characters and a nice slow burning story going through it all, so you liked stuff like 24 or Mister Robot you'd probably enjoy it. My favourite character is Root since she's so wonderfully crazy in a good way.
