I can never get immersed in Telltale's - here's why.
The music! THE MUSIC!
It seems Telltale will never get this right. Look at all every other anime series or foreign drama series (Especially Korean and Chinese.)
They all blend music maginificently well into their product. The only western game that has ever done this has to be Assassin's Creed series.
I mean, Telltale just needs to hire someone like Shawn Lee or Jesper Kyd. Come on.

Bad post OP
Anime music is shit.
You make a good point about the music and how badly it blends in, but you destroyed it by saying it has to be like anime music. Granted, there is some great anime music here and there (Bruce Falconer is a great example) but anime is a bad comparison. I'd say more Silent Hill 2 or The Incredibles are good examples. Good music that fits the tone of the scene and is used perfectly.
EDIT: also
you fucking what
Eh, I don't know if JEJ does the music anymore, but some of the soundtracks to their older games were amazing. I remember a time where we all wanted to sign a petition to get the soundtrack for the Devil's Playhouse.
Music has to be its own thing and create excitement.
Can't say I share the same opinion. Out of all the different visual/animation/audio oddities and quirks that have taken me out of Telltale's games, the soundtrack has never really been part of that. Only real exception as of late would be ANF, due to the over-reliance on reused tracks from the previous seasons. But other than that, I really can't find much fault with the soundtrack personally. In fact, almost every memorable scene I can think of off the top of my head, in any of theirs games, was in a large part thanks to the soundtrack.
There are a share of scenes that could do with better transitions, blending, and what such, though. I'll admit that much. Random volume jumps, music abruptly cutting out/ending, and so on. But not to the degree where it took me out of the game. In that sense, I think music is one of the more consistent elements of their games, compared to the ups and downs they've faced with visual quality, writing, design, and so on.
It's still Jared. With the games taking a more serious tone, the music has as well(my take from the two modern games I've played). I didn't find them as memorable, but I doubt that's Jared. It's probably what they want.
I beg to differ.
I've got two examples:
Tales of the Borderlands got the soundtrack as right as games of Borderlands - maybe they chosed it for them though.
Also for GoT the soundtracks were really in the same theme, sometimes even better ("two brothers" was heartbreaking)
It's not the music. It' the mixing. Music is often mixed too low, while sound effects are too upfront.
They need a compressor for dynamics to bring up the music in the cinematic scenes.
The free roaming sequences are perfect, instead.
Most recent Telltale Games have had good to great soundtracks, the only exception I can think of is ANF, which was just meh.
ANF's soundtrack was just re-used music from s1 and s2. disappointing. other than that though, i like the soundtracks used in the games.
If you seriously think that Assassin's Creed is the only western game franchise that has a good soundtrack you need to clean out your ears.
Bully had good ones too. I really can't recommend another one.
One of the best parts of a Telltale series is the soundtrack, in my opinion. The Walking DEAD ANF was probably the exception.
The only real issue I have is that sometimes the soundtrack will randomly cut out during a loading screen. How hard would it be to just make the music fade, Telltale?
I'm sorry I did not phrase it properly.
The music really takes me out as it isn't memorable enough.
Take a look at Christina's theme in Assassin's Creed 2. Or practically every OST in Bully.
Telltale never matched that standard in their games.
The only music I remember hearing is the Batman loading screen music. (Due to the Long load times of some scenes)
Take a look at the anime Naruto. How would the ost 'Kokuten' work in a telltale game.
Also, I wrote that off the top of my mind. There are other games with great ost. Such as Bully, but those are a rare few.
I've never really liked any music from Telltale. But that is entirely subjective and besides the point. I was talking about how memorable music can improve the experience.
I don't know about that. We have:
See? There's plenty. And the reused soundtrack isn't that bad.
Yeah I agree; my point was to say that in my experience with TT games the music actually brought something.
For aGoT TTG the music made the game way more tragic.
For Batman the soundtrack was around the same tone of those of Hans Zimmer and created some kind of dark athmosphere.
And for Totb the openings songs brought a real plus to the game, they were chosen carefully and I was actually waiting for each opening of episodes.
It's all about subjectivity in the end so I don't judge you for your statement anyway
No problem haha
what are you talking about..?
What do you think, Einstein? The new music that was introduced into ANF.
did you go through the whole game and write down each time new music came on? thats dedication right there. unfortunately, that doesnt change the fact that they re-used a lot of content from season 1 and 2.
I was about to say the exact opposite.
Jared Emerson-Johnson does a great job in these games, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Sure, they reused some of the music from older seasons, but they still added a few new soundtracks.
No I just thought about what I could remember. The only one I had to search for was the one where Kate goes missing. I'm just saying that this season has a lot of original music but nobody notices. Besides, why the hate for the older musics?
Well, depends on the anime, I think some like Gurenn Lagann and One Punch Man had amazing soundtracks, but in general I wouldn't say anime soundtrack is all that good. Also I think some Telltale games have great music (though not all of them). TWD S1 and S2 were both great, as well as TWAU and Batman.
Have you played bully recently? The soundtrack might have been good at the time but not anymore.
Perhaps it could be used better - made louder and transitioned better between scenes. The composition however is fantastic imo, TWAU and Batman being the major standouts. I don't believe I would like Telltale games as much if not for the music, it adds quite a lot. Much of ANF wasn't memorable, maybe one or two tracks and the end credits if you want to include that. Jared Emerson-Johnson is ma boi.
Yeah I cannot take anyone who points to AC as a high point in music while seemingly forgetting games like LiS or TTG Batman...or S1 or S2....Bioshock...or even GTA series.
Is this bait? There's no way someone can be this dense. Like this goes beyond what an opinion is and is just objectively wrong. Even if you dislike the music that Jared makes, how can you even make the claim that AC is the only western game to have incorporated good music? Stupid thread.
Sam and Max soundtrack is the shit
Looks like we got a weeb in this forum. Lol OP anime music is for the most part overdramatic garbage.. just like anime in general.
The soundtrack in Telltale games, especially TWAU and TWD S1-S2 was outstanding and was well placed. And there are so many great soundtracks in western games, you clearly didn't pay attention. AC's music apart from AC2 wasn't even that good, lol
Nah. I find the Telltale music to be really good. Jared makes some real good action sounds for an action scene, dramatic music for an emotional scene, And it always fits the franchise really well. Tales is a perfect example of this, and possibly the best one that emulates its source material.
But, I do like their recent Guardians soundtrack quite a bit. I can't find any of the background tunes online, so I really wish Telltale would just release them.. For every series.
They make some good music.
Edit: note that yes, I do agree that the transitions need to be better. Some music queues have had some glitches where they cut off a bit early, or play too softly, but I've had them happen very, very rarely. Only in Tales once, Minecraft twice, and Batman once.
"Cant get into the immersed into the atmosphere because the music"
just how many video games do you actually play, because saying it's rare that a western game has a great soundtrack is really incorrect
i totally forgot to mention wolf's soundtrack. it's so fucking good. i'm gonna go listen to it again now actually. dammit poogers!
It would already suck if they don't bring back the old intro music.
Poogers I hope we can count on a whole new set of Bruce Wayne Faces this year with the new series...You truly are a master!
The soundtracks are actually almost universally great. Even the more boring ones (like Batman's) end up blending well with the game itself.
I, frankly, do play quite a bit. Not as much as all of you, because 90% of the games do not get my attentioj. I'm pretty picky, you know. xD
It's still good, sister. It was something memorable. I played it last year.
