Better programmers?

I just finished episode 1 of the first Batman Telltale Series, and I really enjoyed it, but I'm baffled by the technical faults in this game. Inputs that aren't recognized. Chugging framerates on scenes with no action. The game froze and wouldn't accept any inputs or let me go back to the menu screen or even review my choices after the credits; and continues to hover between menus - not giving me inputs - when I choose the 'choices' option in the Extras menu.

I don't know what kind of budget Telltale has to work with - maybe it's not that great - but is it really that difficult or expensive to hire programmers who know how to these things properly? Like, literally, I don't know. Is it? Metal Gear Rising came out four years ago, and it ran at steady 60 fps with way more going on onscreen on inferior hardware. Whatever you're paying your current programmers, it seems like you're being ripped off.

  • I don't know what went wrong, (other games since then have worked fine) but just wait till you get to Episode 5. The framerate gets slightly better the further you get in the series (though it depends on the scene), but there's this one determinant scene in Ep5 that is barely functional because it's framerate, sound and visual cues are all over the place.

  • I had no problems when I played it on my PS4.

  • Really? One would think that everyone would have the same problems on the PS4. I mean, it wasn't unplayable, far from it, but it certainly dropped 10-20 fps on some actionscenes. Like the first one you actually get.

  • You must be lucky. I played on PS4, and let me tell you.. while the frame rate drops weren't below 30 (except for that certain scene above I referenced. That one was in the 10-20s, I'm sure) there were many noticible dips during the game.

I encountered lots of bugs, freezes and game break

No excuses only short game with mostly cutscenes how they even manage to fit in so many bugs post release for so long is insane and unacceptable

I too hope they fit these issues

Its due to problems in game engine. New game engine of Telltale causing problems even your system is enough to play in maximum requirements. Glitches and bugs are also other face of the coin as well. The Walking Dead Season 3, Minecraft Season 2 and Batman has this engine but still I am struggling about playing in high qualities even I can. Maybe they will work on it since The Wolf Among Us and Batman:The Enemy Within is on the way.

  • I spot a bug on Minecraft Season 2 in the start already, i noticed that i can't use a male jesse. if i choose a male jesse, i start playing as a female jesse. They really need better programmers xD

  • If I wouldn't join a company with 2.9 Glassdoor rating if I were you. Oh well, give it a try.

  • Why not? You can always quit and put it on your resumé.

I'd second guess the choice if you were well seasoned in the field and thinking about leaving another developer.

  • The other side of "grass isn't always greener" is that you get to work on a bit more with Telltale sometimes. I've seen tweets from triple A developers saying stuff like "I just spent 6 weeks working on trees". Fun.

  • You have to take into account that Telltale doesn't have a large staff (larger than when I first joined). Telltale also likes to release games on schedule, so most of the time some bugs get overlooked (happens with every developer) and not push back releases. I can tell you some war stories on delays on some games.

  • They've had some pretty impressive modern delays, I've heard. Ones where forum temper tantrums of past were put to shame. That actually might answer to why they just released it, right there.

Someone else could probably chime in on this. There was one episode of a game that was repeatedly delayed, enough so that the following episode just said "coming soon" until the week it was released. I think I came back here during the "coming soon" tantrums.

  • I meant "impressive" as in the forum chaos. It wasn't a backhand to any developers.

  • How can that be possible? Consoles don't have millions of variations of setups like PC does. Shouldn't every console player experience the same problems?

  • Ah, the days of The Ice Dragon. 4 months for an episode. Can never forget that. What's more, I expected it to be a loooooooooooooooooong and awesome episode but it wasn't.

  • And not just that, i can't play the episode 1 of batman too! Do you remember the part where batman jumps in the window and fall in the guy there? After that, i return to the begin of the episode. And this don't stop happening.
