Ideas for new Telltale Games

edited December 2009 in General Chat
Hey, I just wrote a blog post on five franchises that I think Telltale should make into point-and-click-'em-up adventures (http://l0rddavid.wordpress.com/2009/09/22/5-franchises-that-should-get-the-telltale-treatment/), and wanted to get your opinions, know what franchises you'd like to see, et cetera. My ideas are (I explain the them in the blog... not room for all that here) VeggieTales, A Series of Unfortunate Events, Spy Fox, Pushing Daisies... and another that I'm not saying as an attempt to get you to read the article. :p

To be honest i'm on somewhat fussed on the Series of Unfortunate Events. As for your super secret last one that I shan't divulge, it would be a bit pants if you ask me, it already works in its own regard

But what do I know, I enjoyed the X-Files game back in the day

I don't think Id go for any of those.

I WOULD love an Ace Attorney Telltale game, with more American-ish comedy and style, but that seems really, really, really, REALLY unlikely.

    But it would be intense.

I really would LOVE a Mortadelo & Filemón Telltale game. I know they're not well known outside Europe, even outside Spain (except maybe Germany, I understand they have much success there), but I love those comic characters and they're much likely to be on adventure games (a Spanish company already did several 2D adventure games on them), and I think they will fit perfectly Telltale's sense of humour and episodic format

Hows about an original TellTale IP? There's enough talented people working there to give us something enjoyable and fresh

    The Addams Family! :)
Seriously, it has the potential to become an episodic game.
for those who don't know about them, they are a wired family who have a Gothic life style, they wake the dead for hobby, the mother tells violent stories for children's bedtime and... .
They are abandoned from the society because of their nature, but they are really good people in heart, they don't mean doing these things they just do it to have fun!
Villeins in their stories are usually normal people who want to annoy them with the excuse of them being abnormal, but it turns out that the real bad guys are themselves!
Just think how many games TellTale staff could make from it!

as for a Series of Unfortunate events, I don't think an episodic adventure would be suite for it.
The story has already been told and we can't make a new variation for the characters, unlike Sam and Max, or HomestarRunner Characters.Unless lemony Snicket decides to tell a new adventure of them in a game format, which I think is very unlikely to happen.

Hope you don't mind, l0rddavid but I am totally stealing your idea for the blog list.

I would like to see telltale do something like an M rated game, a halloween like game would be very interesting.

I'm going to keep pushing for Telltale to make a Nick Bounty game. Come on Telltale, what are you waiting for?

I think Blckadder would work well

I think Blckadder would work well

Hmm. Actually, there's some potential there. You could control Edmund himself and have Baldrick around to perform actions too dangerous or unsavoury for yourself.

I mean, we all know that this would never happen. But hypothetically speaking, which Blackadder do you think would work best? I'd nominate Blackadder II, personally, as it has the most historical scope and was the funniest of the series. Anyone else?

I think 2 or the third my self

I'd go for the 4th series, but we'd all settle for anything but the 1st...maybe a 4 episode story arc over the different eras that ultimately reveals a great secret of the Blackadder family

Anyway Rowan Atkinson's a renowned prat and a big star so I doubt he'd get on board and I couldn't see anyone else doing the character much justice

I think the Oddworld Universe is a great setting for an adventure game.

I would buy any nostalgic series. If it's The Addams Family, The Twilight Zone or some 40s musical, just so long as it's in black and white, I'll buy it!

The greatest game of all time that I've ever played was Loom. I adored that game when I first played it as a small child, and even today, I think it is brilliant.

When I was older, I discovered that there was a plan to make a sequel called "Forge" but they decided not to because they didn't think it would be popular enough? I could be wrong but that's what I heard.

If you guys can get permission and recreate Loom, or start a new series in the Loom universe, and do a good job of it, and make it as awesome or awesomer than the original Loom, then I would be devoted to you guys.

Although, I'm not sure if the 3D style that you've got with the other games would suit the mood of Loom.

dont say loom here! you will get jumped by old lucasarts nuts!
jake had some pics on his mixnmojo site about LOOM SUCKS, in the edited version of the speech loom..
apparently disgruntled employees make a decent game though as i loved this game as well.

if there was a sequel it would never have had the original team, as stated above, disgruntled :P

but id love to see loom made.. but alas.. speaking to a few telltale employees in forums and in person, they just .. dont like the idea one bit lol

loom, the pansy adventure.. someone once said..

whats there really to do or engage in...

    IDK but i love it!
    will shear for sequel!

I really would LOVE a Mortadelo & Filemón Telltale game. I quote myself because I've just remembered that the Spanish company already used a sort of episodic format in some of their games. They used to release two games each Xmas. Each game of the pair was a independent game, but if you bought both two games, after installation the games got blend together, each game being an episode on a bigger story, and unlocking a bonus third (and final) episode for that bigger game (or "season").
Therefore, I think it's proved that the episodic format works for a Mortadelo y Filemón (Clever&Smart, Fred&Jeff, etc...) game.
And I think that Telltale's sense of humor is what these characters need for a videogame, and the game would be AWESOME.
Pity they're not well known worldwide.

I'd like Telltale to revive the Broken Sword series. I liked playing Broken Sword 4, but the puzzles were mind-bending and ending was a let down... it wasn't really the explosive climax I played hours for... it was
OK Anna Maria dies and then Nico just says let's go home!
    .

I'd really like to see some more adventures of George Stobbart.

Alternatively, I'd like to see Telltale do something with the TV show ReBoot, because that's filled with awesome characters, a well established universe, plus it's coming back in 2010 or some time soon because it's being revived. And has tons of loyal fans. It was the first ever CGI animated TV show and it still is the best in my opinion!
    www.reboot.com

Actually, I also want more episodes of Gerry Anderson's New Captain Scarlet. That's awesome too with Spectrum's global security organisation, the captains, the Mysteron threat and replicants every week. But I mean TV show wise, not as a game. I just wish that TV shows would adopt the model that Telltale are using for game distribution and then maybe they wouldn't get cancelled all the time! I wouldn't mind paying for a season pass of that and then having them download shows to my PC every week!

I'd like Telltale to revive the Broken Sword series.

From the rumblings I hear, Revolution have plans for Broken Sword

I thought that was just Broken Sword Director's Cut for DS. I'd love a BS5.

Phineas and Ferb would work, you could have episodes where you do stuff as P&F, try to bust em as Candace, side-missions with Perry...

I'm just going to throw this idea into the ring...

    Peep Show

I read something about it on their message board, though they're focussing on Beneath A Steel Sky 2 first I think....I think, keep in mind I could be getting very very confused here
    Peep Show

Capital idea! Though maybe a bit too mature (or immature, whatever way you look at it) for mass appeal

Personally, I'd love to see Telltales writers make a Sherlock Holmes season. Although... Victorian London would probably look quite silly in the style the games look now, I suppose. The cases would make for a good season though, as evidenced by Sam 'n Max.

I would die to see this in telltale style.DIE.

I want to see an original IP, because I would love for them to be able to go all the way risk-wise. Where there is definite change and growth for the characters, because you don't have to reset the universe at the end of the season to keep a licensor happy. They've said they'd like to do more serious stories, and I think the best stories always have a little humor in them somewhere, and I'd like to see them tackle an original IP with that mindset. Heck, maybe don't have one over-arching story per season, but spread it out over two. It'd be a risk with an original property, but at the same time if it doesn't work out you won't have "established" fans of the property threatening to rip their throats out, either. Telltale has been getting better and better with each series, deepening their storylines and creating more dynamic and full characters and I'd love to see what they could come up with if they could imagine everything from the ground up. Heck, maybe it could even be a side project worked on a little bit between each series for a few years to really give them a chance to flesh everything out. That would be a dream come true, for me anyway :)

How about The Spirit? It would give TT a good opportunity to tell some more dramatic stories, but without abandoning their humor completely. Eisner's drawing style would be hard to replicate in a videogame, but I'm betting Darwyn Cooke's style would make for great 3D characters. TT already got a bunch of us off-the-path comic fans way back when with Bone, and kept us with Sam & Max, so why not go for the comic granddaddy of them all? And for us fans of the property, it might help dull the pain of when Frank Miller bludgeoned us at the movies last year...
