    O.O

I'm afraid, sir, that we must duel. I'll be back with a dueling glove in a moment. :p

You know that the only kind of weapon acceptable round these parts is of course the banjo :D

Never even considered Type O Negative as trolls, though the pieces are all fitting together, you have just blown my mind my friend.

I hear what you're saying about BL being more "fantastical" if you will, than my examples. But even still it's all part of the same parallel for me. It just all reminds me of that stonehenge scene from Spinal Tap, even though like you say it's all more real-life situations. it's still essentially a friendly wee dig at metal culture

Yet they are still richer & more famous than you will ever be in your entire life... so who is the real loser here?

Now when did I call them losers? If anything they're geniuses

Nope, but I can list a load of comedic stuff that reminds me a lot of Brutal Legend

If I listed a load of stuff that Office Space does in a similar fashion to other comedy movies, would that make it bad? If I listed a load of stuff that Lord of the Rings did similarly to other novels, would that make it bad?

It's not in the similarities that things are judged, it's in the differences.

    Right you are my man.

But let's for example say that Office Space was only released last summer. Then at the start of the new year let's say that the BBC launch "The Office", then shortly after the US version starts. Then let's say a few more workplace related comedy films come out next summer, surely you'd be thinking "This office thing is everywhere now!"

And that's kinda my point with Brutal Legend, although there's nowhere near enough emulation about as my imaginery Office Space scenario to me it's just at a point where i'm thinking "Yeah alright, I get the joke"

Yeah, they are extremely subtle sometimes. And it doesn't help that some of the songs are indeed serious. But then you get songs like "Black No.1" and "I Don't Wanna Be Me" which are very, very obvious digs at goth culture. Brilliant band.

I feel like BL has more in common with Metalocalypse (EA and Adult Swim have even gone so far as to cross-market the two with the BL-sponsored Dethklok/Mastadon tour) than the great Spinal Tap (which practically invented the mockumentary) or Anvil (which I still need to see). But in the pantheon of Cinema du Metal, I'd like to give this largely unheralded cult classic from 1986 (which existed for years only in bootleg VHS form) an honorable mention. WARNING: If you un-ironically love Judas Priest, this clip may embarrass you.

She wanted to jump Rob's bone LOL

I don't think that is going to happen anytime soon... not because Rob is gay... but because that bitch is U.G.L.Y.

That being said, I don't think Brutal Legend can compare to any faux-metal movies/bands/etc. All of the things you've listed are rooted in more or less realistic situations (besides Pick of Destiny). BL, on the other hand, is entirely fantastical. Cultists, monsters, mountains of skulls, magical guitars... completely different from the Spinal Taps and Anvils of the world.

That's kinda why my first thought on hearing about this game was "there's going to be a Dethklok cameo." I was partly right; one of the songs from the series is in the game.

Hahaha, reminds me of the start of that Less Than Jake video "All my best friends are metalheads"

Actually looking at it it's more than likely taken straight from the film http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_F-ipYpd53I

Had never seen that video before, but that clip is definitely from Heavy Metal Parking Lot.
