I have a pretty Halloween- and TTG-series-related idea... Hope I can pull it off.

    StLouisRibs........ I think crotchety applies

Also to Majus, Silverwolfpet, and crew I think you guys should do what ever you want to do... I would much rather lose to people I talk to here than some other random person.

Well, a few years ago, a poem won in fifth place.

If I do enter this year, it would probably be at the last moment. (I hate not having free time...) I think the only thing I had time for was dressing up Max in my Ghostbusters uniform... :P

I have an idea, though. If I don't make it in time, I'll just save it for next year's contest. ^^

Poetry IS art... I can not really think of anything you could do for this that wouldnt be art..... unless you donated money to a charity for poor decapitated talking demonic skulls in honor of the competition..

I'm writing something massive, and I plan on including other things with it to make the extra push itll need!

I can think of a few on the wiki, but they have Sam and Max in them. You can get screenshots easily enough by running ScummVM in a window and pressing PrintScreen.

tried it, but it doesn't work. any other suggestions?

Did you go into an image editing progam and hit ctrl+v? Assuming you're using Windows?

Am I the only one who immediately thought "someone is going to make a text adventure of S&M S1E1"..... ? ;)

As much as I COULD do that, and as much as I'd LOVE to do that, it would take WAY more time than I have. I mean, I could probably do that in the timeframe, but I have two foreign language courses and that's kinda tough.

If you have Windows Vista, there's a compact program preinstalled called 'Snipping Tool'. Works like a charm.

That... would be so awesome! Someone has to try to make this! :D

May you re-explain this, with more detail?

    No vista for me!

Same, I'm really swamped, hence the trying to influence others to do it, I suppose we all could try to pool resources (time) though ;)

I had been looking into making a text version of SMI but haven't got the time to devote myself to the project what with my university work. A single episode on the other hand.....

As much as I'd love to be part of a team writing a text adventure, the prizes aren't exactly anything that could be split(ESPECIALLY the consoles, the Monkey Island pack can split the buttons at least).

It is kind of neat that there are enough people interested in a text adventure to make one.

    Hm.

I dedicate three straight hours a day to foreign languages. My classes take up 3-4 hours on weekdays, plus any out-of-class work.

Depending on my out-of-class work, I could probably work a couple hours a day on weekends. The DVDs are an invaluable resource....

I've wanted to make a Sam and Max text adventure game(or "Interactive Fiction" as the current fans seem to like calling it) since I played Reality 2.0, it could be fun.

You know, I might give this a shot.

As I said, don't have time to work on something like this, I'm taking on much more then I can chew at the moment but I do have some spare time, so if any of you decide to go ahead with this and need an other coder/computer business system architect drop me a line :) As for the prices --> in the unlikely event, worst case they can be sold ;)

hey, i found a way to work around my problem. thanks for the help, though!

I was going to make a Sam & Max text adventure, if I can get over my anxiety problems before the competition closes. It's half done, and it's an original story.

yeah you should definatly do that, man! it would be the coolest thing ever!

    Two brief comments:

    1) Original Sam & Max text adventure = VERY YES. Make it so if possible, Shwoo.

    2) ... It's already been a year since the last Halloween contest. W-where did all that time go? o_o

Please do. Especially since I have nearly ZERO chance of getting anything done on my end.

Comeon dude, never mind the consoles. Working in a team on an awesome text-adventure and actaully manage to finish it in a short time is a far more awesome prize.
Also, you can sell the PS3 and share the money :)

I never played a text-adventure before! It would be so cool to play yours! :D That way I can brag about playing every type of game since the existence of games of consoles!

Hope you finish it. Out of curiosity, what language are you using? I'm trying to teach myself Inform 7 but it's slow going (especially when I'm also learning Java & Lisp as well as getting comfortable with C++ & C# at university) and any project I'm doing will take me longer than the rest of this month.

Woah! You're missing out! The Infocom adventures are some of the best(and hardest!) adventure games ever made!

I'd suggest trying one out. There are the web text adventures Thy Dungeonman and Thy Dungeonman 2. Or, if you want something more purely from that era of gaming, you should go with Wishbringer. It's an introductory adventure, which means Infocom puts in prompts that tells you when you're making common mistakes in entering things that the Infocom parser doesn't understand.

Thanks for the encouragement! I should hopefully have it finished before the competition closes, but if I don't, I'm still going to finish it. I guess I'd better get some website space or something.

I'm using Inform 7 as well. I don't know how to do the more complex stuff, but I know enough to make a functioning game that does almost everything I want it to.

I also sent my entry in a few days ago. But won't upload it before Halloween. ;)
Guess you'll see it in the entries then. All entries will be shown before the winners are announced, right?

Wish you best luck for finishing it just in time.

    Wow, that looks really good!

Also, I'm going to repost a question someone else asked on the blog post about the competition, since it wasn't answered there.
Another question, the video game consoles, what versions are they? Not in terms of hard disk size or anything, but are they NTSC or Pal? Because I wouldnt be able to use a NTSC machine here in Europe (counting my chickens here huh? :P )

I would like to know this as well.
  • edited October 2009
If I'm not mistaken, you CAN use a NTSC console here, with PAL games, as long as you have a widescreen TV with HD Ready thingie.
A friend of mine has a PS3 which he bought from Canada where it was about 180 euros, compared to romania where it is about 370 euros.

Yeah, but they can still be finicky about things. My brother has an European PS3, but when he tried playing an American copy of this fps it wouldn't allow how to play over the internet, which is pretty much why he bought the game in the first place. So even if a system is "region free" it doesn't guarantee it can actually play games from every market.
