What will the next TT game be?

edited November 2009 in General Chat
I was just wondering. The ToMI game only has one chapter to go and then there's a big empty void to fill until another Monkey Island game is made by TellTale.

What other games do you have in the works that we can enjoy next, TellTale? Can you give us a little peek of what's around the corner. :)

I think they've mentioned that Season 3 of Sam & Max will come next, but I'm just guessin'.

I'd love to see them get the license to another franchise. (considering the "ohmygodthisisthebestnewsever" reactions that previous franchise announcements have illicited from me)

Probably Sam & Max Season 3, my guess is Telltale might have realized that making to many games at once isnt good, you can clear see and feel how the quality went up in Monkey Island, ill bet one of the reasons is the more people they got to work on it.

I must say all they learned being applied to the next season of sam & max, both in story line, graphics and enviroments wow ! :D

Somehow i do some someday they will make another Day of the tentacle (didn really like the original Manic Mansion) i really feel if they can keep recruting for people to work for them with skills in adventure games and voice acting they might, just might be able to handle Dott.

Do you not think they've done more than enough already to prove that they are "able to handle Dott"??

And it would still be a MM sequeal rather than a DoTT sequel surely? DoTT is essentially a subtitle after all. It's like saying they would make a Hit The Road sequel rather than a new S&M game.

They might be in the same universe, but when push comes to shove, its Dott people like and not really Maniac Mansion, in Dott they really refined it all, down to a simple smooth formula, MM didn even have voice for crying out loud xD

Dott is the only place you can continue that series, thats how i see it.

MM is so basic, that its hard to make stuff out, why i refer to DOTT, it has the amazing animations, the insane godlike humor, the super awesome music, the greatest atmosphere ive tried in a Adventure game, the colors.

MM for me was nothing speciel in any areas, so say make a game on that, wouldn help telltale or any other company, because that is almost as basic as an adventure game gets, and i really want more in the Dott style, its not without reason its the king of adventure games for many people.

I would expect them to do Sam and max, then Monkey island again.

Howeverm i would love to see them try and create their own franchise, or snap up the doctor who license (c'mon, they're practically begging for a game. They sold the license for a Top trumps DS/wii game, it can't be that hard to aquire!)

    RMJ1984, I think you're missing the point.

Day of the Tentacle IS Maniac Mansion. In fact, it's THE official sequel to the game. So, basically, it would just be wrong to call the sequel "Day of the Tentacle". Especially seeing as
the actual "Day of the Tentacle" was averted at the end of the game
. Just calling it Maniac Mansion would be enough.

Oh, and DotT actually takes place in said mansion.

I'm on-board with calling a new Edison family adventure MM3 rather than DOTT2. DOTT2 doesn't make sense as a sequel (let alone a title), first of all, unless it's a spin-off about just the 3 kids (or at least Bernard or one of them) from DOTT. But that also doesn't mean an MM3 has to be the same thing as MM1 was. It can be something completely new just like DOTT was. Maybe something better.

Instead of trying to copy the success of another game the mold should really be redefined. That's why DOTT was so good after all. It improved on the formula of MM. An MM3 should be similarly reimagined and better.

I'd like to see TTG try making a game or two out of their comics they have up here :)

But really, we should move on from the LucasArts licences, TTG aren't a tribute act are they? Besides, we have all the time in the world ;)

Does this mean Curse isn't a sequel to Monkey Island as the first two didn't originally have voice?

I know what you mean. Maniac Mansion IS Day of the Tentacle but they're all just ignorant.

I agree that MM2:DotT was funnier to play than MM1, but even so. If telltale decides to make a "sequel to DotT" it should still have maniac mansion in the name. As dott is part of the Maniac Mansion series.

Don't get me wrong. I love the original Maniac Mansion and I've spent lots of hours on my Amiga and NES playing it.

I once wanted to make a MM2: Day of the Tentacle Movie. I just couldn't decide on the actors.

doesnt have anything to do with that, but if you actully try Dott you will see how it improves and defines what people like, if you go back and make something based solely on Maniac Mansion, well that wont be that good.

Because it didn have all those things people like about Dott, the super wacky graphics, nothing is realistic and straight shapes like the original MM, the characters and those animations are wacky and amazing, the sound and music also.

Dott is what most of us want more of, that story, those characters, those animations all that is great amount that.

Telltale wont learn anything by going back to MM at all, because again its light years behind Dott.

Accept it or not but Dott was a 10/10 sequal and they should continue from there.

And the problem so far ofc, with the currents telltale engine, is for a game like Dott to work, it need those wacky animations like when moving super fast and such, more crazy and wacky characters, even Monkey Island has suffered with alot of bland and boring characters sadly :(

so in the end i just hope they really really consinder if they can keep the quality of Dott while doing episodic, because rather than having it suffer with characters, voices, animations, i rather not having anything new at all, as they say, if you are gonna do something do it right or not at all.

All those old adventure games are on my top list, my for me Day Of The Tentacle is right at the top.

Lets say you wanna make a new car, you dont go back to the car made in 1947, you go back to the newest one of that model and improve from there.

But, when people say "sequel to Maniac Mansion", then they immediately imply "sequel to Maniac Mansion II: Day of the Tentacle", not "sequel to Maniac Mansion I". It's just that people are so annoyed by others saying they want a sequel to "Day of the Tentacle", as the "Day of the Tentacle series".

    Spoiler:
There is no "Day of the Tentacle" anymore. The whole thing got averted when they went back in time before Purple Tentacle ate the stuff.
If you were really a fan of the series, you would have known that.

Also, if a sequel is largely different than its previous game, you may still call the series by the series name. If people say "sequel to Maniac Mansion" they don't expect the sequel to be exactly like the first game. In fact, they don't even expect the sequel to be exactly like "Day of the Tentacle". So that's just a crappy excuse to justify the need to say "Day of the Tentacle sequel", "Day of the Tentacle 2" or "Day of the Tentacle series". You're just wrong.

Lastly, Telltale can NEVER bring that same feel of Maniac Mansion II: Day of the Tentacle back. But if you're really open minded, you wouldn't even give a damn, because whatever they can do in three dimensions, they will do good, if not perfect. Trying to replicate the prequel will almost always result in failure.

Is there any place to download and play MM and DotT games?

I haven't played these games but with all the posts about them I'd like to check them out.

I don't know about others, but when I say that "I want a DOTT sequel, not a MM sequel", I mainly mean that I want the characters to be the cartoony DOTT-style, not the "realistic-though-big-headed" MM-style. And I'd like Bernard, Hoagie and Laverne back, I don't liked very much the other MM characters. But it doesn't necessarily have to follow the DOTT story.
So if the next game is called "Maniac Mansion: Telltale's Awesome Entry on the Franchise", but on the screenshots I see that they keep the DOTT cartoony style and not the MM "realistic" style, it will be a DOTT sequel for me, even if it doesn't appear on the title.

MM1 had Bernard, Dr. Fred, the green tentacle and the rest of the Edison family aswell as MM2.

I agree with the style though.

Heh, I'm a huge fan of Achewood, but that's the one thing I can't imagine working well without Chris Onstad writing. Or in 3D for that matter. (Not to mention that it would pass the "Mature" rating in the first 5 minutes).

    A few ideas:
    1. The Blades of Stenchtar - Deluxe Edition
    2. Telltale's Black Jack Add-on, for Telltale's Texas Hold-em
    3. Torture-me-Intern - A SIMultation about being an intern for Telltale

But, I will settle with any adventure game or more chapters on current games

Yes, as long as it have Maniac Mansion in the name somewhere, then we're good. Maybe something like: March of the Tentacle - Maniac Mansion 3

You keep saying this everywhere but you still haven't offered any reason why you are so certain of it. You may very well be right but anything that isn't announced by Telltale themselves isn't official.

I have to ask, why are you so certain they are making a Loom sequel? What do you know that the rest of us don't?

The only thing that model needs, is the funny way to stand, like he did in Dott! :D

I still dont dare think or even hope for more Mansion Mansion (dott) but man oh man, if it should be the next Telltale!, it would be so insane, like a dream come true :O

It'd be pretty unoriginal if they made another installment in the maniac mansion series with the tentacles as the main plot..
i'm pretty sure telltale could think of something far more interesting to happen to the edison family so that some kids would have to go into the mansion again (or maybe one familiar kid and two new ones, kinda like DOTT did.. perhaps someone else from maniac mansion 1)

In terms of a new revisit to an old franchise for TTG I feel it's going to be DOTT, it was a great game and there is so much you can do with those characters and that premise. I wouldn't be surprised to see GF as well at some stage. The popularity of TOMI has truly opened up the floodgates for the TTG/Lucasarts love caravan. As I have said elsewhere I am all for this but I'd like to see something new (based on old) from Lucasarts but I totally understand that the effort that would be needed might not be financially viable - they could make a beautiful new MI/DOTT game that plays very well but with the internet and freely available hints and whatnot, the game could be completed in an hour or two despite all this effort and we all know that means whining and ultimately a negative view. I wish they would take the risk though, I'd love to see a new epic MI not based on short chapters. Hey maybe I'm just getting greedy, I'm perfectly happy that TTG have revived this franchise but have my reservations on the chapters still. Each to their own.
