Full Throttle had a brilliant soundtrack! Gone Jackals - what a band! Too bad they weren't around for longer : ( But there's also plenty of other great music in the game that isn't by Gone Jackals.

All Sierra soundtracks by Mark Seibert, Ken Allen, and Chris Brayman are sublime.

You know, I have to agree. Sometimes I'll catch my self whispering the kings quest theme.

    The best game-soundtrack ever?
    Sam & Max Season 1.

Close second place: World of Goo

The Silent Hill series is my all-time favorite. Mainly the vocal tracks, although the ambient pieces are great as well.

In close second comes anything by Bobby Prince or Lee Jackson. The "Rise of the Triad" soundtrack in particular is a masterpiece of early MIDI.

I don't know if any of them worked on the Shivers score, but the music in that game is incredibly atmospheric. I still remember most of the tunes despite it being years since I've heard them.

No, I don't think any of those three made the soundtrack for Shivers, but I've heard that the music in that game was really good. I haven't played through them yet, however. Will have to do that sometime.

Also, yes. The Bobby Prince and Lee Jackson scores are incredible. I prefer Bobby Prince for the most part, though I think. But Lee did make some amazing soundtracks as well. Also, the Metroid series soundtracks are quite good. Metroid Metal anyone?

I think the Katamari Damacy series has a wide variety of songs, and a LOVE probably half of all their songs!!!

    Metroid Metal anyone?

Varia Suite, please. Sponsors for the site also have access to the newest remix track, the ending music for Super Metroid (everyone else should be able to grab it sometime around/after this weekend).

The new indie adventure game Machinarium actually has a really good, kinda weird mellow electronica soundtrack.

Nobuo Uematsu, Jared Emerson-Johnson and Peter McConnell. There are a lot of great composers who work in games, but their work I listen to over and over again. Especially Uematsu since my mom always plays the "battle music" from FFVII when she's driving.

I personally am in love with the soundtracks from the Starfox series (I wonder why...) and pretty much any valve game. No way you can hate this. It is impossible.
  • edited November 2009
I'm more of specific songs from series, for example, Corneria from Star Fox, Mona Pizza Song from the WarioWare series, Faye Wong's Eyes On Me from Final Fantasy VIII (both versions, spoilers), both songs from Final Fantasy X-2, Rainbow Road from the original Super Mario Kart, mostly too much to name. But the Kingdom Hearts series does have a lot of cool songs.

King's quest 6 had one of the best overall scores i've ever heard, especially for a midi music. Seriously, such epicness was rare at the time, you can tell they were really trying to put up a fight for the lucasarts games that came out the same years. "Leisure suit larry 7" also had some great tunes, not 'epic' per se, but very well organized and atmospheric for the locations. Also, 'the neverhood' had great ost. And lately, Machinarium soundtrack really stuck with me. Oh, and Red alert, the first game. I remember looking up an extractor to listen to the tunes on my windows 95. If you liked Full Throttle's score, you would LOVE that.

I'm a complete soundtrack geek :p I'm going to give a mention for the music from the Crash Bandicoot games (Naughty Dog era), the arrangements done by Josh Mancell on those games, especially Crash Bandicoot 2 and 3 were just catchy and always got the vibe and feeling of the levels down in a perfect way. Sadly Crash Bandicoot is now a whored out franchise but I really think the first three games are under appreciated, the amount of detail that went into the artwork and music was immense.

    Music examples:
    Underwater Levels: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWa-oR9i6DE
    Ruin Levels: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOc935LCDMI
    Jet Pack Levels: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khC_TU6ogsY

I think Uematsu also did music for Super Smash Bros. Brawl, didn't he.

Just a few of my favorites:

The Poem of Everyone's Souls (from the Persona series)
    Silent Hill (from... Silent Hill)
The True Mirror (from Baten Kaitos)
Staff Credits (from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker)
Theme of the Professor (from Professor Layton and the Curious Village)

...I'll probably think of some more later.

Man, that Professor Layton theme gets stuck in my head for days everytime I play those games.

Hitman 2 had an awesome selection of classically-based themes for various countries, many kudos to Jesper Kyd for that. Shame the later games never really matched up to it, though Blood Money came close. The Witcher also had a great fantasy-based soundtrack, somewhat reminiscent of Lord of the Rings, but original enough in its own right. Some very good dark and ominous pieces and quiet relaxing tracks, punctuated by short, fast-pasted combat music. Also quite liked the Mafia soundtrack: very grand classical stuff, appropriate to the 1920s/30s setting. And in my mind, Jesse Harlin's Republic Commando soundtrack gets a lot of credit for deviating from just remixing John Williams' Star Wars soundtrack (though there's some of that) to actually creating some new, and significantly darker and militaristic. LucasArts did release the whole soundtrack for free on the official site, but the site's gone down. You should be able to pick it up here if so inclined.

The Full Throttle soundtrack is amazing. The songs by Gone Jackals is the kind of stuff I listen to anyway, so hearing heavy rock music in an adventure game was paradise for me! And the MIDI tunes were really great in the game too.

Most LucasArts classics have awesome music (in addition to Full Throttle, there's Sam and Max Hit the Road, Day of the Tentacle, the Monkey Island games and Loom, all of which I listen to the soundtracks regularly).

When I was a kid I had an Amiga, and there were plenty of Amiga games with great music. Due to the limited quality they sound dated now, but the composition side of them are still good. Some of my favourite Amiga game soundtracks are: Fire & Ice, Bubble and Squeak, Hoi, Benefactor, and Chuck Rock (it only had 1 piece of music, but what a great piece it was!). I doubt many people will be familiar with those games now, but kudos to anyone who has. Three of those games (Fire & Ice, Bubble and Squeak, and Benefactor) were brought out on CD-ROM with better quality music (tracks on the CD). Some tracks were completely re-composed but were still very good.

For some reason, I also love the music from Simon the Sorcerer 2. It's another MIDI-based one, and some of the tunes aren't as good as others, but again credit goes to the way it was composed. Great tunes and nicely arranged!

Another very unknown game I love the soundtrack of is Arcade America. It was a PC/Mac game made in 1996, and is very cartoony (imagine Day of the Tentacle as a platform game). The music's a bit fast and crazy, but the more I listen to it the more I like it!

that's so weird, when i played those hitman games (quite religiously you might say), i was obsessed with the music, but now, I can't even remember one tune from either of the games. =\ I guess memorable it was not.

Same here, but only because I was too busy cursing every time one of my carefully planned assassinations turned into a wholesale massacre... :( That happened quite often... especially in Hitman 2.

American McGee's Alice - Chris Vrenna (He also did the Tabula Rasa soundtrack which was incredible)

Original Spyro Soundtrack - Stewart Copeland (#2 was pretty good too)

Soft place in my heart whenever I hear the music from Ocarina of Time...

And Splinter Cell Chaos Theory OST by Amon Tobin.

Very much so, it was so perfect for the game. Got me into Amon Tobin also.

Also I would like to add the Halo 3: ODST soundtrack, some fantastically scored music.

I would have to say that I am in love with most of the Final Fantasy soundtracks; they are all so good! I also, of course, enjoyed the Monkey Island 2 and 3 soundtracks, of course back during the time of MI2 my computer was utter crap and so it didn't quite play right.

Plus I was 5-years-old so... not sure if my tastes were developed anyways.
