I think Curse still looks fine, and doesn't need an update. I still enjoy to play that game. I wouldn't complain about a SE for EMI though. I never could bring myself to finish it because of those damn controls. That's definitely something a SE could improve on.

Why would anyone complain about a CMI:SE? How does an updated version coming out hurt you in any way? You'd still have your original version to play whenever you wanted, and you could even choose to not even purchase CMI:SE, so I guess I just don't see why people would actively protest an updated version.

Because when someone doesn't want something, what they really mean is that they don't want ANYONE to have it.

I can't remember anyone complaining?! I surely didn't, since there probably wouldn't be a SE for Espace if they're not also doing one for CMI. But I probably wouldn't get it, and I would actually prefer if they would update Maniac Mansion and Atlantis next, and then probably Hit the Road and Day of the Tentacle (even if those still look great IMHO).

As cornholio1980 above already said, it doesn't really need SE-fication, and it would take their resources away from more worthwhile projects. And more worthwhile projects might vy my attention ;).

From what I've seen of LucasArts lately, there's no project they would be working on that I'd care about in the slightest. Divert resources away!

To each his own, I guess. I just scratched Star Wars: Rogue Squadron off my list, so I'm not really in a charitable mood regarding Star Wars games right now.

(I own 206 games across 11 systems, 157 of which I've either finished or I'm not going to.)

A screenshot leaked from the first alpha version in full 16:9 aspect ratio. I suspect, the Guybrush isn't the final design yet.

epic fail, try again next year

The only thing that disappointed me about CMI was the shortcut icon. I mean, I love Murray as much as the next crazed MI loon, but I don't think he's icon materiel. The icon, like the game, should be epic. in a 32x32 frame.

This is the icon I use for it:

Murray is always better than the ugly name-less pirate on the EMI shortcut icon...

Wasn't the CMI Icon originally LeChuck? I could of sworn in the manual they shown off an early version of the menu and it had LeChuck as the Icon instead of Murray.

The manual only shows the Game Launcher (which has LeChuck), not the icon.

Also checked the demo to see if there was a different icon and no, there is no icon.

And Escape's one was really bad, although I always consider it a monkey with an eyepatch, not a random pirate.

It's a pirate? I always thought it was a monkey!
  • edited April 2010
The Original is a face of some Pirate, with a Green Background, he's wearing a red bandanna and an eyepatch over his right eye. The patched Icon is a Skull with a Banana and Rolling Pin crossing each other. The EMI Launcher icon is Timmy the Monkey!

that 2nd icon is a MONKEY, not a pirate. Look at the shape of the nose, the size of the ears, the shape of the cheeks/jaw line and the expression the mouth is making.

I'll take Murray for my MI3 icon, thanks.

...actually, after some observation, the MI3 icon I have is both Murray AND the coin, depending on it's size. I think Pale Man's icon is the same.

...OHHH, NOW I see it, well there you go, shows how bad the design is if people have mistaken it for an ugly pirate, still, learnt something new about that Icon after nine years! :p

You mean.. in the Darwinian sense, Sir?

I think it would have been cool if they would have expanded on the idea a little.

    LeChimp vs. El Pollo Diablo!

"No no, I mean in the quite Literal sense."

:D The whole LeChimp and Mr. Fossy part was brilliant, worked on both levels, one being comedy, and the other being weird because this guy is clearly insane.

    *clears throat* "Mr. Fossy..."
"Are you okay sir, you sound different than usual"
    "DON'T INTERRUPT!"

I'd much rather see a Special Edition of Grim Fandango, preferably done by Telltale, so I can actually PLAY IT!

Anyway, I would love to see a Special Edition of Curse, with the same backgrounds and animations done even better than before in modern Photoshop. As long as they add in the missing scenes and let you play the original version as well.

I agree with ye on all accounts! I believe Dom mentioned in an interview one time (This could be a Phantom Memory) that they had already voiced (And I believe even sung, as the original ending was a musical) the ending, but it was never animated. I'd pay for that! :D

If by interview you mean answered my question on this very forum, then yeah :D He actually said the dialogue for the cutscene between Chapter 5 and 6 had been recorded but they never got around to recording Plank of Love.

I think just making it run smoothely in newer systems, releasing it on Steam and maybe some light touching up of the graphics would be good. There's not really enough to BE overhauled like the first two. But just updating it a bit would be great.

Yeah, I think that's all they really could do. But I also wouldn't mind seeing some more items (not inventory items, just click-able ones), as well as maybe a few easter eggs.

What they should do is make Monkey Island Madness Special edition on disc and sell it - they can throw the first 3 monkey islands on it all the way updated and ship it out.. 1 dvd should hold all 3 anyway..

I apoligize, I made a mistake - I really meant to say the first two.. Although I suppose all curse really needs is just higher res support?

They really should throw them both on a disc, call it Monkey island madness SE and sell it.. I'd definatley buy it - it'll look nice on the shelf next to all the boxed MI games i have..

The guy who worked on The Curse of Monkey Island has actually said he would love to redo it

    Bill Tiller.

He does seem quite keen on the possibility. He's even talking about it in his blog now.
  • edited July 2010
I doubt they will do it and if they do my bet is that they will not bring him in doesnt seem like a move LEC would do even if it would be cool
  • edited July 2010
Probably not. Wasn't most of the artwork for the first two Special Editions done in Singapore anyway? So this would mean that if Bill were to be included in the production of a CoMI:SE, then he'd have to make a trip to Singapore in order to co-ordinate things with the team. Or not necessarily?

it could be a nice work holiday 4 him

I like Tiller's work but honestly Ghost Pirates just didn't have the same charm that Curse did.. So if it ever happened I hope he stays true to the work he did on Curse and not so much what he is doing these days.

BTW, how many people hate CMI's design of Guybrush? I know I'm not the only one, but it's kind of interesting to look at aproximate procentage... maybe create a poll or something?
